Suella Braverman's allies said she would have settled for nothing less than her old job as home secretary in return for endorsing Rishi Sunak on Sunday

If that's the, case then Rishi Sunak has already broken his pledge of rebuilding trust. You can't appoint somebody who has been sacked for a security breach.

Suella Braverman obviously going to come back as Home Sec, right? I mean, she's not a fool, she knows how valuable her endorsement was, she will have held out for a big job.

The interesting part of this reshuffle to watch, I think, will be whether Sunak is clearly planning for his next reshuffle with the junior posts: i.e. is he lining up a Justice Sec he can sub in for her when he's stronger, who is his chief sec, etc etc.

I'm amazed that Braverman is seen as having had so much clout. She never had that many supporters even among the ERG, did she? Wasn't it about 25 at most? After all Penny Mordaunt is also ERG so any ERG lot could have given their votes to her.

blackpearwhitelilies · 25/10/2022 13:38

God - I'd almost accept Raab as Home Secretary if the alternative is Braverman. [I do know I'll rue the day I said that.] She's even more rabid than Patel.

RedToothBrush · 25/10/2022 13:39

chief whip wendy morton out

(That wouldn't be a surprise if Gavin Williamson was about to crawl back under his rock there)

Fushiadreams · 25/10/2022 13:40

I’d be shocked if braver man is home sec. That’s a big job and would look like blackmail, let’s hope it’s not true.

noblegiraffe · 25/10/2022 14:03

Getting Steve Baker's support (and calling Johnson a disaster) felt like a much bigger deal than Braverman's support.

Perhaps this 'she gave her support and that's a big enough deal to earn Home Secretary back' is coming from the same sort of supporter who was claiming that Boris definitely had the numbers. Overegging it.

RedToothBrush · 25/10/2022 14:05

Vicky Ford (Development) and Chloe Smith (DWP) out

AutumnCrow · 25/10/2022 14:06

Is it Mordaunt's big swishy hair, lovely visage and nice speaking voice that affect people's ability to see through her?

She had to be removed from Defence after 3 months because she could not get on top of the brief. Every job she's had has attracted complaints that she wasn't up to it. She is a massive u-turner and a confirmed liar.

I agree with @RedToothBrush that if she has to be left in Cabinet, I would like Sunak to leave her where she is as Leader of the Commons.

Telegraph saying Kit Malthouse (Education) out

Going well there...

I saw that. So awkward. (And that's being kind.)

TokyoSushi · 25/10/2022 14:16

Well, this ain't gonna be no mini reshuffle! I expect we'll never see a mini anything, ever again!

RedToothBrush · 25/10/2022 14:17

Raab for Justice. He was there previously. They will be delighted. Honest...

Raab wanted his Bill of Rights. That got axed by Truss. Was in the manifesto.

So definitely something to watch.

RedToothBrush · 25/10/2022 14:19

Malthouse quit after refusing demotion apparently.

Ranil Jayawardena Out..

noblegiraffe · 25/10/2022 14:24

James Cleverly is tweeting prolifically today about the phonecalls he is making to various world leaders, including Ukrainian officials.

Presumably to show that he's on the job and shouldn't be moved.

RedToothBrush · 25/10/2022 14:24

James Cleverly has literally just tweeted he's just got off the phone to the Ukrainian Foreign Minister.

Tbh, I think it might be embarrassing for Sunak to sack him just minutes later.

So that's either tactical to try and keep the job or he's staying...

Interesting to see in the full midst of the reshuffle.

Yes Gove could work there, but god the man is hard to stomach,

sunak is literally firing them one after the other. They are just lining up to be fired now.
