I think if we had invested £120 million on speeding up the asylum application process rather than doing dodgy deals with the Rwandan government I'd be more likely to believe they want to address the ongoing problems.

As it is I agree the Channel crossings are a useful tool to galvanise specific bases.

Absolutely. Cutting foreign aid doesn’t have to be disastrous either, we should be targeting it where it’s needed.

Notonthestairs · 28/10/2022 08:58

"The NT has its flaws but it's a huge force for good that has made access to cultural capital for all a focus in recent years."

Agree. Not every exhibition fits my interests or taste but it shouldn't have to.

DuncinToffee · 28/10/2022 09:02

Isn't Restore Trust another Tufton Street one?

I think I read that somewhere.

Coffey just found out between interviews that Biden is atttending COP27, wonder if that will change things.

(her excuse was that Biden and Macron weren't attending either)

It's worrying that they can't see the economic benefits of renewable energy.

"As was swiftly pointed out, Neil Record, one of six people identified on Restore Trust’s online ‘Meet the Team’ page, is also the chair of not one but two bodies operating out of the Tufton Street network."

That's because renewables doesn't rely on imported oil from dubious regimes that are keen to pay for their wallpaper.

Those fans of Braverman on her FB are all moving to reform party because of her failure to deal with it.

It appeals to the real right wing and they need to keep them onside as reform party is gathering haste as well as the centric right one nation Tory's who they have a real chance of losing to Labour currently.

Lots of talk on news channels still about Braverman being a security risk and also about how she'll possibly be kept from certain information because security services don't trust her.

Our country is going to rack and ruin.

mibbelucieachwell · 28/10/2022 11:31

Wasn't Doris also kept from some sensitive info when he was Foreign Secretary as he was such a liability too. This should be reported as a scandal instead of just another little mistake.

Oh dear

Rishi Sunak's spokesperson says the soundtrack for the Prime Minister's latest video is "certainly not by Gary Glitter".

But Jeremy Corbyn met some terrorists, (in order to try and facillitate peace) and so he is evil

DuncinToffee · 28/10/2022 12:34

But Jeremy Corbyn is making a comeback

New email from Rishi Sunak to Tory members goes in on attack line that Keir Starmer is “just like Jeremy Corbyn”

Odd attack lines.

Having a nationalised energy company is popular.
Strikes currently have public support
We have the highest tax burden in 70 years, under them

Is this amateur hour again in Number 10?

Like this reply on that thread.

Piggywaspushed · 28/10/2022 12:46

Yes, but it's to Tory members. The only two words actually required are Jeremy and Corbyn.

Well far better to be like Jeremy Corbyn than to have be like and have broken the law with Johnson.

the80sweregreat · 28/10/2022 13:12

I can't see how KS is like J C at all ,
J C supports the strikers for starters
I don't understand this attack , but then Rishi Sunak is a Boris Johnson tribute act I guess ( from what I saw on PMQs:)

itsgettingweird · 28/10/2022 13:26

Yes 80's

His sudden new personality didn't take very long to make an appearance.

He went from calm speaking, intelligent sounding and a possible hope to Private school debate society member and weak overnight.

We need a general election. Of these clown want to run the country then they need the British public to make that decision.

Right now they are just attacking our rights and Labour and not actually solving anything.

tobee · 28/10/2022 16:46

These climate deniers are beginning to really concern me.

Looking a bit into Sir John Hayes. Can't think of much to comment except the bleeding obvious.

Watching the BBC, are they fucking kidding me! Trying to distract with covid again.
So we can't afford housing, we can't afford heat, we can't afford food and we can't trust our government, but we are all supposed to be scared covid will kill us?

Thats way down my list of worries right now.

Saucery · 28/10/2022 18:33

Ha @L1ttledrummergirl, just said that to DH! I appreciate Covid updates, but the “vaccination programme seems to be working” message was very much buried at the end of the report.
BBC News doing Filler stories this evening. Footage of students queuing in Durham for accommodation illustrating a non-story about Manchester accommodation Hmm. Rapacious private landlords feeding on the worry about next year? Investigate that properly or don’t bother ffs.

tobee · 28/10/2022 19:06

Remind me who is director general of the BBC again?

Notonthestairs · 29/10/2022 10:19

Here we go again -

"The Local Government Association has warned Jeremy Hunt in a letter that the £3bn-plus shortfall facing councils will lead to cuts, particularly as inflation has worsened since the last local government finance settlement was announced. “Without immediate additional funding, councils will face increasingly stark decisions about which services to stop providing as rising costs hit budgets. This means not just isolated closures of individual facilities but significant cuts to services people rely on, including those to the most vulnerable in our society,” it said."

This story is just grim. Overcrowding at Manston site in Kent which Home Office knew all about. Braverman refused to let anyone leave. This happened in her first stint under Truss and was quickly reversed by Schapps.

I don't remember reading about this story being covered previously or maybe I missed it.
Interesting that it's come out now.

www.thetimes.co.uk/article/suella-bravermans-decisions-led-to-diphtheria-and-scabies-at-migrant-hub-ttxrwtvkn

At one point this month more than 3,000 migrants were being held there, three times its original capacity. The Home Office has used temporary marquees to increase its capacity to 1,600.
A government source said: “She was refusing to allow anyone to leave Manston, even though the numbers were well above its capacity.”
