What should I do with an avocado?

Looking for inspiration with what I can do with an avocado. I know I can have it on toast but wondering what else I can do with it?

Whats your favourite avocado recipe?

ABC sandwich with bacon and chicken.

Halve the avocado. Add mayo to the hole where the stone went and stir in crumbled bacon or toasted chorizo.

Eat with a spoon and get to the other half before anyone else sees it.

Victoria wood would recommend smearing it on your lower portions

Compost bin or don't buy it

@chopc I was looking for the same! It's available here, along with a bunch of other avocado recipes:

The Deliciously Ella recipe is about the third one down the page.

If I have an avocado that’s gone a bit too mushy, I mash it into a tin of salmon and use it as a filling for pitta breads, very tasty.

Avocado milkshake....
Put the peeled n stones avocado in a blender with sugar and milk....
very thick and obviously very fatty but lovely in the summer with a few ice cubes...

Blueberrycreampie · 19/10/2022 23:24

I love it sliced with chopped up crispy bacon, tomato, red onion and salad leaves with a tangy vinaigrette dressing.

BasiliskStare · 19/10/2022 23:24

I make poor man' s guacamole which is avocado mashed up with creme fraiche. Lovely with some salmon & new potatoes or in a wrap for lunch with bacon or just on a baked potato.

with mozzarella and cherry tomatoes. Bit of pepper ground on top. Lovely breakfast.

OhSunnyMorning · 19/10/2022 23:29

Stick some drawing pins in it and call it Gerald.

Fraaahnces · 19/10/2022 23:36

Another one is salmon, avocado, salt, pepper, capers, lemon juice & French beans

wifeofaclosefriend · 19/10/2022 23:37

Mush it with some tuna and stick it in a wholemeal pita
Slice on some houmous and feta on ryvita

I like making a sort of salad with avocado, finely chopped red onion, diced tomatoes, sweetcorn and coriander (lime and olive oil for dressing).

Quaagars · 20/10/2022 00:10

I love it mashed on toast with a squirt of lemon juice 🙂
Avocado makes amazing chocolate mousse too - great for if you're vegan or can't eat eggs as allergic!

Add crispy smoked bacon and a fried egg, roasted cherry tomatoes and toast.

Sliced with prawns cooked with chilli, garlic, coriander and lime, dusted with cornflower and spices and fried until crisp works really well.

Make sushi.

Add to a burger with egg, mushrooms and cheese.

Mashed with lime juice, chilli and finely chopped tomato and a tiny amount of oil, then apply in blobs to a plate of tortilla chips interspersed with refried beans, pickled jalapeños, black olives, cheese, more cheese, halved cherry tomatoes, more cheese and then microwave it until the cheese melts. You could add some cheese and sour cream/smetana at that point of you wanted. And/or leftover chilli from the night before.

They can go into smoothies - cocoa or pineapple are good things to hide the taste with.

On toast with feta, cherry tomatoes, red onion and tajin seasoning

SiobhanSharpe · 20/10/2022 00:18

I make a full guacamole (lime juice, salt, garlic, finely chopped chillies, onion and tomato) to have on sourdough toast for breakfast. The 🌶🌶🌶 make it a really 🌶🌶🌶zingy start to the day .
note-- Must drink good coffee alons

SiobhanSharpe · 20/10/2022 00:20

Oops. Posted too soon
...alongside to get the full eye-opening chilli effect.

My late uncle, who was lucky enough to have an avocado tree in his garden (not in the UK obviously) used to eat his with Worcester sauce in the stone cavity.

constantindigestion · 20/10/2022 00:26

We used to have a drink in the Middle East where avocados were blended with ice and a little milk and the drizzled with honey , and then sprinkled with chopped pistachio. Loved it

ManAboutTown · 20/10/2022 00:30

Throw it in the bin

minipie · 20/10/2022 00:36

On its own with liberal amounts of chilli flakes and salt

On rye crackers with salt, chilli and prawns or feta

In a sandwich with salami or prosc type ham

In a wrap with grilled halloumi, chopped tomato and something spicy plus fresh herbs

Guacamole - I make mine with salt, fresh coriander, cayenne and a little chopped red onion and deseeded tomato

Brilliant in many sorts of salad but especially the ones with cucumber/tomato/red pepper/red onion - really makes it delicious.

There was a delicious Ottolenghi recipe for avocado yoghurt sauce in the Guardian a few months ago. I've made it loads - avo, Greek yoghurt, coriander, lime juice and S&P. Blend in a blender until completely smooth. Perfect to spread on a sandwich with bacon, or to use in fajitas, as a dip for tortilla chips, on toast with a fried egg, or as a salsa on the side of enchiladas, chilli etc... It was really tasty.
