The cunt thing is every bit as funny as you imagine - just saw the clip on Twitter. Everyone hailing Krishnan a National Hero.Grin

Anyone who uses that sort of language is not amusing in my book.

I vote we just started a commune . Somewhere lovely and remote . Grow our own veg . No killing animals . I'm fine with eggs and milk if we love our hens and cows though . We just live in yurts. Farm our own patches of garden . Take our special needs kids and our by kids and teach them the stuff that matters. Love our dogs and livestock. Teach ourselves . Teach our kids from playing and how to be social , how to add up , how to write a coherent sentence- what else matters? Love our friends and families and animals and live a life ge that's just bloody great . Anyone with me ?

I am!! Where do I sign up?

LadyWithLapdog · 20/10/2022 08:22

@stillvicarinatutu the trouble with that is that there’ll be a “charismatic” person making his (will be a him) way to the top and, before you know it, it’s a cult and the idyl is destroyed.

How can Liz Truss possibly come back from this complete disaster?

She and the Tory party have led the country into absolutely shameful chaos. Their Truss experiment has completely failed. This ‘government’ in name only has no clear position, there’s no collective responsibility in cabinet and the Parliamentary party are vastly divided politically and fighting like cats in a sack. Tory MPs including cabinet ministers like Rees Mogg and Coffey have been witnessed using shouting, intimidation and physical force to bully colleagues into voting with the government.
Special advisers from the Truss team are being investigated by standards and ethics. It’s corruption in action.

How can she get back from this shambles without corruption and personal favour and becoming beholden to colleagues by buying their favour with her political favour. That puts her and us in an appallingly vulnerable position. She’s not appointing the best people for jobs. She’s appointing literally anyone who will back her- including Shapps who she’s already sacked once before as Home Secretary. WTF?

We’ve had FOUR chancellors in FOUR months with the Tories. The home sec resigned yesterday. They have u-turned twice on whether the fracking vote was a confidence vote and are talking about taking ‘proportionate action’ against about 40 MPs who didn’t vote. Truss herself didn’t vote!

Truss’ idiots have literally cost UK citizens out of pocket unnecessarily millions with their incompetence. Inflation is causing food and energy starvation around the country and the interest rate rises will be turning people out of their homes. Fracking is environmental disaster and that’s what they are giving us to help energy security.
We need a general election NOW.
Truss staying on with her staggering incompetence above all no mandate to govern from the public is damaging all of us.
Boris Johnson’s completely toxic government legacy continues to pollute politics.

LadyWithLapdog · 20/10/2022 08:32

I agree with every word there @DowningStreetParty

Take any job and you wouldn’t last the week with such incompetence and corruption.

It's not just her though. Cut off the head and another one grows back. The entire lot needs to go, for the sake of the nation's mental health as much as its finances. Since the Tories came to power we've endured Austerity Part 1, Brexit, the pandemic and now the cost of living crisis. Not all of those things are the Tories' fault, but their mishandling of all of them has been so damaging it's no wonder we are all so despairing of politics right now. Even though Labour will inherit an utter shit-storm they will struggle to solve too, a reset of personnel is urgently need to give us hope of better days ahead.

Thank goodness David Cameron called that referendum in 2016 otherwise the Tory party would have torn itself apart.

Indeed!

There absolutely needs to be a general election because this is now chaos. But people do also need to be realistic that voting the tories out and labour in isn't necessarily going to change much. It is simply going to remove the chaos that is the tori party.

It's not just the UK that are in financial crisis. Europe's inflation is actually higher than ours, Ukraine and Russia aren't just aifecting us, and that is a huge part of the issue.

So while labour will likely come to power, people shouldn't be thinking that everything is going to change now, because it likely isn't. And it's not all down to the tories.

DontGoBreakingMyHeart · 20/10/2022 09:38

PS, that's not me saying I think the tories should stay in power, I don't. but when we vote, and when labour get in, people need to think before heading down the road of saying that labour is just as bad, because a lot of this is a world wide problem which the press are doing a good job of selling as purely a UK one.

antelopevalley · 20/10/2022 09:39

@DontGoBreakingMyHeart I just want someone competent and that won't sell off the NHS - I do know that has already started.

No it isn’t.

Some if it is worldwide.

But the majority is Brexit and incompetence. So the Tories own it.

And yet the rest of the world isn't going to hell in a handcart pushed by Truss and her minions. Our economy is tanking yet other nations are still doing fine despite the pressures.

antelopevalley · 20/10/2022 09:46

Agree on some worldwide, some just in the UK. But Truss has made a bad situation much worse.

Its true that Ukraine and CV/Chinese lockdowns have caused huge issues and the media certainly do not down play this.

BUT first Brexit, then mis management of public services both prior and post and then Truss's disastrous policies have made matters far worse.

Just look at UK borrowing costs (Gilt Yields) compared to say Germany, France, let alone Japan.

Labour will not be able to turn things around instantly, it will take a very long time and i hope they get back in the Single Market asap.... there was a reason Thatcher was a huge fan.

Alexandra2001 · 20/10/2022 10:10

Thats not true at all.

EU isn't a country, neither is the eurozone, you need to look at individual countries inflation rates.
French inflation is 6.2% and falling, Germany is almost identical, no surprise due to their reliance on russian gas but we don't have that, so why is ours so high?

Italy and Spain both lower than UK.

These are comparable European economies.

Again, look at gilt yields, only Italy (of comparable european economies/countries) is higher, that adds billions to UK borrowing costs, billions we don't have to spend on ourselves.

TomPinch · 20/10/2022 10:22

that voting the tories out and labour in isn't necessarily going to change much.

Have you ever lived outside the West? I have. Believe me, it could get much worse. But it starts with petty corruption, short term politics over good governance, loyalty over integrity, politicians stoking culture wars for the lols.

Can you imagine any Home Secretary between WW2 and now coming with that ridiculous word salad about tofu? That shows the low quality of people in the cabinet right now and in the Tory parliamentary party.

Never mind Brexit, left v right etc, this lot need rooting out ASAP.

Thank heavens that the great thinkers among the electorate saved us from that Marxist Corbyn. Imagine what life would be like if he'd won instead of Bozo. Instead, we have this idyll. How lucky we are.

They also saved us from 'chaos with Ed Milliband'! Lucky, lucky us.

Time to take to the streets my friends

TomPinch · 20/10/2022 10:28

Never mind that. The real question is how the 2019 election came to be contested between such low quality candidates. A proven liar against a career contrarian and backbench quibbler. They were both awful.

DH’s phone keep trumpeting out the wrong news headline. It’s so cringingly awful, in all my years I can’t believe the state of our government. I can’t bear having the news on at the moment. What an embarrassment our government is.

What’s it shouting? Liz has done an excellent job. We are so happy she’s PM. Long love Liz Truss?

When you wonder who is going to be Prime Minster next week then you know the government is in chaos.
