Or at least trying to keep warm, and mainly failing.

Upstairs is just so cold. Getting undressed or dressed is horrible ☹️

I've caved in and bought an oodie, cheaper than the electric to heat the place. It will pay for itself in a couple of weeks.

OriginalUsername2 · 12/10/2022 18:25

Starting to feel that way too the last few days! Getting out of bed in the dark cold is horrible. As is getting out of the shower. Really don’t want to get used to heating yet though!

One weird but effective thing I’m doing is running around or jumping up and down a bit to warm up.

Luckymummytoone · 12/10/2022 18:30

I second the oodie!! Had mine on for half an hour the other day and was red hot 😂

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 12/10/2022 18:30

I feel your pain. Try putting eczema emollients on all over in the cold☹️. It’s hateful.

Gazelda · 12/10/2022 18:32

I don't mind the cold too much at the moment. But I absolutely hate the constantly damp towels after a shower. And the wet washing all over the house.

illiterato · 12/10/2022 18:35

as soon as I get out of bed I put my uggs and hoodie on. Then I stick the kettle on immediately and then do my morning admin on speed mode to get moving and warm up. Then dive into a cuppa. Then get properly dressed.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 12/10/2022 18:46

It’s not about Oodies though for me.

Its about getting dressed/undressed in the cold. Going in the shower in the cold. It’s the taking clothes off that’s horrible. I can cope with all the rest.

FayeGovan · 12/10/2022 18:49

Yep its shit

Me too. If I didn't get showered and dressed straight away I don't think I'd ever

I also find the cold makes me more tired, i just huddle on the couch under fleeces and want to nap, moving around is too cold

Bemyclementine · 12/10/2022 19:07

Where are you all that's so cold already?

gogohmm · 12/10/2022 19:08

@Bemyclementine

Was thinking the same thing

Zippedydoo123 · 12/10/2022 19:10

To heat our 2 bed semi is c 70pence half an hour or so then I turn it off. Why be cold?

Is everybody else paying much more?

Zippedydoo123 · 12/10/2022 19:10

We do have a very insulated house though.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 12/10/2022 19:14

I’m on the North. 8 or 9 degrees in the evening yesterday. Really cold wind today.

Could (or maybe that should be would?) you shower in the evenings instead?

i never used to be able to wake up/leave the house until I'd had a shower, but I've trained myself out of not being able to leave the house without one!

I do an early morning component with my job, so I just pull on warm clothes & go and do it. I have a regular phone call when I get back & make a coffee for that, then sometime after before I have to work again I have my shower. I prefer to shower when I first get up, it used to make me feel ready for the day, but I can't anymore (health issues makes me too dizzy & prone to fainting).

Nowheretoogo · 12/10/2022 19:22

I’m the same,my house is freezing, not much is getting done as I’m sat on the sofa with blankets!.I’m in South Yorkshire.

Scottish Borders, badly insulated house that relies on LPG for inefficient heating! It's 13 degrees inside at the moment. They were gritting the roads today as well!

Fritilleries · 12/10/2022 19:25

17.5 inside. Lancashire. Tolerable so far but damp towels suck.

Aggypanthus · 12/10/2022 19:27

I am not feeling the cold at all. I know what the temperature is but it does not bother me. I am way past the menopause so the inner central heating thing has never manifested itself on me. Wait until it's really cold people then you can complain :)

Toddlerteaplease · 12/10/2022 19:27

Oh for goodness sake, I'm the summer everyone was complaining it was too hot. It's not even particularly cold and people are already whining.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 12/10/2022 19:29

I’m on Soitb Yorkshire too. It’s bloody cold today and was last night.

This! I'm happy to wear layers but I bought a tumble dryer to stop the "damp laundry" interior decor style. Now I've just invested in another couple of over radiators airers for when the central heating does go (sparingly) on.

I'm in North Hampshire - it's been 2° a few mornings recently.

We've had some lovely days, but it's been 5.5° inside my house in places because I sleep with the windows open (can't cope with them closed), which is ok when dressed/busy & the living areas are warmer as they get the sun & away from the bedroom window breeze (probably 14°) (fine for me, this time of year) but 5.5° is not pleasant when naked & wet.

This is the reality for those of us in countries where central heating is not widely used. It really isn't that bad, you've just been spoilt!
