Places you don't shop anymore and why?

Are there any shops you just don't go to anymore? Obviously due to the cost of living. I shop at Aldi and Asda. Might just go to Aldi now.

WHSmiths - overpriced
Boots - hideously overpriced
Debenhams and its ilk - overpriced
Waitrose - even the yellow stickered stuff is overpriced now
White Stuff - lost their mojo. I used to go in and want everything but not any more
Body shop - not been for about 10 years
Lush - walked through one once, never again
i am not a fancy coffee fan so don’t do Starbucks etc
Im old and not slim so no Primark etc

bigfamilygrowingupfast · 22/11/2022 13:56

Most "cheap" clothes shops, especially PLT. I shop from locally run independent clothes shops now but don't buy anywhere near as many clothes as I used to

Online food shops - absolutely detest them! My DH says they're "more convenient than going to the shop" but I hate all the substitutions and end up going to the shop anyway to get what I actually need

Deliveroo and Uber eats etc - been let down before when they don't turn up and it's 11pm and no shops are open

Nobody is a fox hunter any more to be fair, it is illegal.

Yes, there's that 🤔

But Boots headquartered in Switzerland? I never! why am I surprised

Brokendaughter · 22/11/2022 13:57

I also don't shop at places that annoy me.

I stopped shopping at Penhaligons because they ripped me off for a lip balm & a gift box.

I paid for them (that wasn't the whole of the order) they didn't send them - they were not even on the packing list & they couldn't be bothered to do anything about it.
Not even an apology.
I gave up chasing them after half a dozen tries.

It was the only time I'd ever had anything missing, so it's not like I had repeatedly said stuff didn't arrive.
Get my perfume elsewhere now, don't buy their stuff to gift anymore & haven't shopped there since.

Tesco due to being strong armed into having a clubcard by all the different prices for clubcard holders.

Waitrose, when they stopped the free coffee

It's back now :)

RambamThankyouMam · 22/11/2022 14:34

Any company that uses offensive "woke" language to describe women, like bleeders, menstruators, pregnant people.

angharadsgoat · 22/11/2022 14:55

I will still brave going into Lush but you have to be prepared to be pounced upon a couple of times. The worst occasion I was followed to one section while they tried to upsell their products.

Boden - decline in quality

fussychica · 22/11/2022 15:00

Ecco because I had a pair of pretty much unworn expensive shoes where the soles had just disintegrated between wears. Assumed they'd want to see them but they wouldn't even discuss it said I had to return them to the branch I'd purchased them from which I'd already told them had just closed down. Couldn't get them to engage at all. Fuckers! Will never but from them again.

Is this a recent thing? I haven't been in the changing rooms since they closed them during the pandemic n

I took my daughter in the other day and was pleased to see that the two sides of the changing area were labelled ‘all genders’ and ‘women only’. Now why can’t more shops just do that?

Hbh17 · 22/11/2022 15:06

Pretty much all high street clothes shops because the stuff is cheap and nasty, as well as displayed like a bad jumble sale.
Never bought in Primark - of course for ethical reasons, but also because the one time I went in with my niece there was a very weird smell from all the plastic shoes 😂
Lush - smells vile, even from down the street.
WH Smith - scruffy and they don't actually care about selling books any more (loved it as a child in the 70s tho).
Specsavers - I always go to a proper independent optician.
Greggs - just never been & food doesn't look particularly appetising.

Basically, I really go shopping very rarely, and even then only go into 2 or 3 shops.

pizzaHeart · 22/11/2022 15:10

The Body shop - the same reason as @HoisttheMainSail
Debenhams - 😢
I also don’t do Starbucks

MsPinkMarshmallow · 22/11/2022 15:14

I won't shop anywhere which lets men use womens changing rooms and loos and who jumps on the TRA bandwagon.

John Lewis have therefore got much less cash from me this Christmas
Ditto M&S

dadadeedadada · 22/11/2022 16:03

I have started to boycott shops that service delivery drivers before actual real stood there customers.
Happened last night at my local Mc'Coll's. Queue of six people, one woman serving a chap, in walks 'Uber man' and attention is immediately diverted. I walked out. Who the fuck sends Uber to a glorified newsagents?

megletthesecond · 22/11/2022 16:48

dada our three local McDonald's are always swamped with delivery drivers. We used to go once a month or so but I don't have the patience any more. The waits are too long, and that's with their staff dashing around getting orders ready. Oh, and they don't like me paying cash.

OhIdoLike2bBesideTheSeaside · 22/11/2022 17:26

Primark
Full of cheap crap un-ethically produced

We've stopped using our local fish & chip shop for similar reason. They prioritise online orders, so you can be stood waiting 5/10 minutes before they even ask you what you want, and then another 5/10 minutes whilst they cook and pack it for you.

ThreeRingCircus · 22/11/2022 17:38

Totally agree with Body Shop and Lush for aforementioned reasons.

JoJo Maman Bebe for their ridiculous policy of keeping their doors locked during Covid so you had to knock at the door then when they let you in they locked you into the shop! Utter madness, off-putting and frankly dangerous. I refuse to shop there again.

Blossomandbee · 22/11/2022 18:20

Asda - constantly charging more at the till than priced on the shelf. Very sneaky. My local store has also become almost unusable with the doing away of nearly all manned tills, aisles constantly blocked with online shopping trays and cages, and ever decreasing milk and meat items in favour of vegan alternatives.

Tesco - as others have said I don't like their two tier pricing system.

clairelip · 22/11/2022 18:25

Pavers are a good sauce of ladies size 9 shoes

lavenderfine · 22/11/2022 19:32

Lush because you honestly don't get a second to browse without staff in your face asking if you've tried this or that or whatever. It's not the staffs fault I know they're told to do that but I find it too overwhelming couple with the smells and stuff too!

And boohoo because the sizing is so shit it's unbelievable and they now charge £1.99 for returns and take 3+ weeks to process them whilst being basically impossible to contact!

Metheven · 22/11/2022 20:25

ofwarren · 22/11/2022 02:28

Primark due to their mixed sex changing rooms

Yep.

LimeBasiandlMandarin · 22/11/2022 20:31

Hush because it's over priced poor quality tat and they treat their customers really badly.

Alwayswonderedwhy · 22/11/2022 20:31

Lush. I love the products but get really flustered by the overbearing staff and end up leaving without buying what I went in for.

Boots. Can never find what I'm looking for and there's never any staff on the shop floor.

M&S because the quality of their underwear has declined.

motleymop · 22/11/2022 20:35

What is the point of The Body Shop anyway? I'm surprised they're still going.
