Places you don't shop anymore and why?

Are there any shops you just don't go to anymore? Obviously due to the cost of living. I shop at Aldi and Asda. Might just go to Aldi now.

Oh Yes to Matalan. Last time I was in there was a woman demanding to know what you were buying and aggressively directing you to the self service tills. I had a discount voucher printed from the internet, I knew from experience it wouldn't work on self service tills, explained this to aggressive woman who 'kindly', but let me stay in queue for regular tills.
Got to manned till and another arsey woman on till 'never seen a voucher like this, it won't work!

Explained that was what I had been given to present to cashier, another eye roll. Voucher worked.
No sorry for doubting you etc. just a repeat of ' never seen one like that before' .
Oh do fuck off! (said in my head, not out loud)
I appreciate that working in a customer service role must be difficult and they are just acting out the whims of management, but I try as I am sure many others do to always be polite and respectful, shame that it's not always reciprocated.

Another one for Lush offering free binders

HotchPotched · 22/11/2022 12:19

Yes, Body Shop! I’d actually forgotten so with Christmas shopping coming up have started another thread to remind others how awful they were.

Carlycat · 22/11/2022 12:20

Tropic for supporting Mermaids

AnonWeeMouse · 22/11/2022 12:21

I don't shop for clothes in person anymore and I won't take my daughter, I don't trust the changing rooms these days.

For food, I avoid Lidl in favour of Aldi, I've had some dodgy things from Lidl that put me off. Meat especially seems to not be that great.
Tesco I tend to not big shop anymore, I used to way back when they did the clubcard voucher double up thing. Save £30 in vouchers and they'd do a double up to give me £60 at Xmas that paid for Xmas dinner.

Big shops now are either Aldi or Asda with a few odds and ends from The Food Warehouse now and then.

Shitfather · 22/11/2022 12:23

Harvey Nichols - can always find cheaper online.

ScarierThanBoo · 22/11/2022 12:24

All of the shops mentioned above that hate women. Also;

Degustabox, they lost my advent calendar and their customer services were so non existent that I had to harass them on Messenger and Twitter to begin the refund process. I phoned their customer service number 11 times and they didn't answer once.

Uber eats, I ordered food to be delivered and waited at the door because the app side the driver was outside, he wasn't. The driver cancelled my order and called it a failed delivery. I had no phone call and even weeks later I'm without a refund. Customer services won't speak to me as it was over 48 hours ago, I did contact them within minutes but they said complain via the help function with the receipt. I didn't have a receipt as their website crashed. I'm out 21.00. Even Twitter was useless.

barskits · 22/11/2022 12:34

Starbucks. Easily avoided, and I don't much like their coffee anyway.

Lush. I would cross the street to avoid even having to walk past one of their shops. The smell is overpowering.

Body Shop. Ridiculous prices for mediocre quality, and on the rare occasion you find something you actually like and would buy again, they discontinue it. Not keen on their ethos regarding a certain topic either.

WH Smith. They lost the plot years ago, and you can buy everything they sell elsewhere and for less money.

M&S. Also lost the plot. You'd expect my age group (middle aged +) to be their target market, yet I can walk round one of their stores and find absolutely nothing whatever that appeals to me. Their shoes used to be great and fitted me really well, but they've gone totally to pot as well.

Christmashorse · 22/11/2022 12:35

River island, horrible cheap looking overpriced clothes.
W Smith, old fashioned horrible shop, with always forcing you to buy extras, also very expensive.
Boots, overpriced.

Furrybutts · 22/11/2022 06:29

Ann Summers due to being pounced on my staff offering help the second you are through the door.
Then following you round the store commenting on every item you stop to look at.
Very invasive and off-putting.

I can imagine, especially it being Ann Summers.
'Ah yes, our top rated vibrator. I have one myself and absolutely swear by it!'
😂

roarfeckingroarr · 22/11/2022 12:41

Starbucks - mermaids

xogossipgirlxo · 22/11/2022 13:00

I second lush for breast binders. Zara- clothes became hideous. Starbucks after they served me awful pumpkin spice latte.

badgermushrooms · 22/11/2022 13:15

Starbucks. The coffee kept getting worse and worse but also more expensive. I kept going for convenience up until I found out they were using their "we'll pay your travel costs for an out of state abortion" PR move as a stick in their ongoing attempts to prevent their US employees from unionising. I know most US companies are like that to some extent but forcing women to choose between access to healthcare and employment rights was a step too far for me.

BlackeyedGruesome · 22/11/2022 13:19

John Lewis. Mixed sex changing rooms. So far they have lost business to the tune of two freezers and a fridge freezer.

BlackeyedGruesome · 22/11/2022 13:21

Marks and Spencer. Also.mixed sex changing. Used to buy clothes there. No longer.

JudgeRindersMinder · 22/11/2022 13:23

Simply be and Evans because I’ve finally lost the weight and don’t “need” to shop there ☺️

LuckySnips · 22/11/2022 13:26

Body Shop for reasons already mentioned.

Neal's Yard for selling and promoting homeopathy (not just feel-better spa treatments, but anti-malaria 'treatments'!!) and then not having the balls to discuss or defend themselves in a scheduled webchat some time later when it was apparent they'd be asked about the ethics of selling untested 'remedies'.

Luluthecat · 22/11/2022 13:30

Waitrose for my weekly shop - even the basics range is really overpriced. Great quality meat/fish but the two local branches have poor quality fruit and veg

kegofcoffee · 22/11/2022 13:31

Anywhere owned by Mike Ashley or the Boohoo group, and Primark.

Pretty must rules out most the high street. But I can't bring myself to line their pockets and damage the environment while I'm at it.

kegofcoffee · 22/11/2022 13:31

00100001 · 22/11/2022 06:50

Waitrose, when they stopped the free coffee

But it's back!

blebbleb · 22/11/2022 13:32

ofwarren · 22/11/2022 02:28

Primark due to their mixed sex changing rooms

Is this a recent thing? I haven't been in the changing rooms since they closed them during the pandemic n

Shinyandnew1 · 22/11/2022 06:53

Lush due to their bizarre policy of pissing off their customers by repeatedly pouncing on them the minute they walk in. I used to spend loads in there.

Same with the Body shop. I don’t understand why they think this is a good idea. Plus they are an inferior version of the 90’s shops with the perfume bar.

ShellsOnTheBeach · 22/11/2022 13:40

Body Shop because of their support of JKR haters.

Primark because of the mixed changing rooms.

Boots because they are 'headquartered ' in a tiny rented office in Switzerland so they can pay tax there instead of the UK

French Connection because of FCUK

Plus Amazon because of the way they treat staff and their tax avoidance.

Starbucks because of their tax avoidance and because they serve shit coffee.

Gosh, quite a list...

OldWivesTale · 22/11/2022 08:59

Johnny Boden is a fox hunter?! I won't be buying from there again either.

Nobody is a fox hunter any more to be fair, it is illegal.

This! Body shop is similar too where I am. It massively puts me off. Do any customers actually like it?
