Would your dog protect your home?

I've ended up down the YouTube rabbit hole again...

I know mine wouldn't protect my home. He didn't meet my brother-in-law until he was over a year old when my brother-in-law walked in unannounced while I was sleeping off a night shift. My dog greeted him like a long-lost friend. He would bark if he heard someone trying to get in but once they were in he'd be besides himself with joy.

Strange, but on three occasions my big soppy red setter defended me against strange men, twice in my house and once outside ( a drunk in the grass on our walk)
So yes, it is possible!

Our dachshunds would have barked loud and long. The first might have had a go at a burglar (he nipped a postman once); the second would probably have tripped him up.

Ha! You need a Siamese kitten.
we were selling our flat and the estate agent had the keys to show people round. I came back one day and found him and two prospectives lurking on the landing. I asked why he hadn’t let himself in, he gestured towards the door. It was true that there were some very menacing growls behind it,,like a seriously cross tiger.
I opened the door for him and picked up my thirteen week old kitten who was about eleven inches long and apparently made of pipe cleaners with two big ears stuck on.
He looked a bit abashed.

My chihuahua would go absolutely berserk if a stranger came in

Ours is a wuss. She joins the big dog in barking at strange noises but from a safe distance eg if he is barking at the back gate she is in the front room, two rooms away, under my desk, barking very ferociously Grin

She's boss out of the two dogs though. All the bones are hers, even the big beef marrow bones that are actually bigger than her belong to her.

He does look a bit like a Transylvanian hound but he looks like everything anyone suggests to me. When someone suggested a pitbull my reaction was, "nope, I know my bull breeds. There's not a bit of bull in him."

Then they told me to watch a dog's way home which is basically just a film about what my dog would do if he got lost. The star of the movie is exactly like him in every way possible.

Yes, small but very, very loud. Nobody's coming in.🐕
