What's yours? I remember the Dumped By Text one a couple of years ago (by the girl who ran in the rain!) She was very inspirational.

OP posts:

I love these nostalgia threads. When I recognise all the threads, makes me realise how many years I've been on MN.

There was a funny one a few years ago - I can't remember the details, but someone's neighbour was parking in their space, and the OP put a gnome in the space and dressed it up and took photos. Doesn't sound great, but it was very funny!

There was also a poster called Phyllis-something who had a child, and she was so proud of everything the child did. Her posts were hilarious - would love to hear how her son it doing now.

Somerville's threads were lovely too - so glad for her happy ending.

No-one has mentioned the one where a neighbour built a door into her garden (of a listed building). Was this a fake thread?

I love the "styles fail" thread - literally laughed outloud with tears! For example, the person who cut their hair short and dyed it bright red, and said they looked like "a fat match".

The door into garden went to solicitor I believe, listed building? So it went all legal route. The other lady didn’t she jazz it up with lights etc at Christmas.

Twitterqueens Cancer diary threads. At the time I was searching for help and advice with my late DMs cancer battle and a Google search brought me here. She was such an inspirational lady and her words and positive outlook had a profound impact on my understanding of the hell my mum was going through at the time.

This is one of the ones I just didn't find funny at all, maybe I just didn't get it but I'm still surprised how others react to it

Quite but I don't believe it was real anyway.
See also Korean ladies, PB, Mexicans, SpanGran, and every other piece of creative writing with fangirlz screaming for updates and the situation getting ramped up daily and eventually put in classics.
There's probably a totally innocent (not) reason why the OPs of all such legendary threads disappear very quickly once they've had their fun.

I remember the sad ones, and the trolls.

The weirdo with her special phone who sent parcels to a notorious MN scammer sticks in my memory. As does another scammer who stayed at a MNer's house and had to be chucked out by the husband. And the scammer that a well-known MNer "saved".

Yes the scammar and the mumsnettter with the phone and sending parcels was very weird I did wonder in they were the same person ?

I’ve been here a million years so remember loads of memorable threads. I loved the hedge sex one, and least illustrious moments of my career.

I think penis beaker was shite and was when MN hit a new low. Ditto snapped and farted and Sistine chapel.

I must be getting jaded as very few threads really grab me now, and none make me actually laugh out loud like some used to do.

TheHouseonHauntedHill · 14/10/2022 09:23

pAFMO.

Does it bloody matter?

Ive started tons of threads over the decade's I've been here on everything from white good recommendations and serious legal issue, medical issues.

Shoot me now I've also deliberately posted about some stuff that has upset me in a funny way that I know the more light hearted mn will also enjoy.

It's been extremely cathartic and healing and MN is supposed to be supportive.

MenaiMna · 14/10/2022 09:36

I am Canadian. People always mention that one "I AM CANADIAN!" and I am so intrigued. It must have been before my time. Can someone kindly give me the link? I've never been able to find it on search. I feel like I'm missing out!

LadyEloise1 · 14/10/2022 09:40

The one about the woman, who, when she went in to her bathroom during the night heard a click. She was afraid someone next door was watching her. Never did get a conclusion to that one.

In similar vein a woman who was worried that someone was accessing her home via the attic. The thread finished because of police involvement I think.

The lovely woman who had a horrible son in law who wouldn't allow his wife's family, including 3 grandchildren, meet up and if they did it was conditional.
He was money grasping and lazy. The daughter only contacted her when they wanted something.
Her beloved husband had died so she was grieving and coping with awful sil. The dd and sil and 3 children were moving to a really rural part of Ireland. She was so worried.
When the 2nd or 3rd thread filled up, there didn't appear to be another. I think of her and hope things worked out.

Cutted up pear
Pom bears dinner party
Elderly Korean lady

And absolutely anything by the much missed Cat Thief Keith. The trapped in the tent one had me doubled up with laughter

Does what "bloody matter"?

Lying trolls? Scammers?

Yes.

Invented totally hilarious stories, less so, obviously. Just beggars belief that over the years people believe a lot of them.

What does having been here for years matter? (2003 since it apparently does)

Back in the day there were hilariously funny random threads. Quick witted posters and one liners delivered with perfect comedy timing.

frazzledbutcalm · 14/10/2022 11:35

I snapped and farted 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

The poster who asked for recommendations on a folding buggy she was thinking of getting for a holiday abroad for her little one.

No one responded.

3 years later she posted on the same thread along the lines of "Oh yeah, I got that buggy, it was fine"

Immediately some sharp eyed poster says "You do realise you're talking to yourself from 3 years ago"

I think it's in classics. The OP's user name made it even funnier, if she was playing a long game she pulled it off big time. I chuckle every time I think about it.

Years ago there was a group on MN who used to answer unanswered threads

It was their 'thing'....

Only just remembered that reading your post!

TheHouseonHauntedHill · 14/10/2022 12:25

But mine have not been invented and the obsession with trolls means it's harder to get the witty one liner's, whose author's are still here?

XJerseyGirlX · 09/10/2022 18:23

EMIN ( earth mother I'm not) , the most amazing and inspiring threat I've ever read. It's been put into legends.

I remember that one and how inspirational she was...but many are saying she died, I can't see anything regarding her dying? Was it on another thread?

Yes, she sadly passed away with cancer.

Hepzibar · 15/10/2022 07:23

Memorable for the wrong reasons.
It that ran for 3/4 threads.
Iwas posted about suspecting her husband of having an affair. The husband and neighbour soon had nicknames in the MN style 'Sid and Flooz'.
There where lots of bizarre things but any poster who questioned it was set upon by the MN mafia.
She was eventually outed as making it all up when some mnetters met up with her.
It still sticks in my head years after.

Weenurse · 15/10/2022 08:22

Twittlebee (???) and her woods that the neighbour was trying to claim.
Zombie apocalypse I really enjoyed.
I also like the alphabet street one that turned out to be fiction, I think.
Redtoothbrush (???) escaping her abusive relationship was heart warming to see the encouragement.

Ahh thank you, colour of my toothbrush has changed but it's been three years and a week and I'm doing great .

@TheDutchHouse wonderful to hear you are doing well.💐

SarahSissions · 15/10/2022 10:49

Sistine chapel.
the one who wanted to get rid of her neighbours dog because she didn’t like it

MayISuggestSomeThickCutSteakChipsToGoWithThat · 16/10/2022 17:56

Another memorable for the wrong reasons was the poster who wrote about how her husband Jerry had being that sleep deprived due to their new baby and on his way to work as an Airline pilot he'd crashed head on into a Truck and his car had gone up in flames killing him. Turned out to be a troll in the end but I still can't listen to Enya's Caribbean blue (supposedly played at his funeral) without wondering how someone can make up post like that in the first place.

PivotPivotPivot123 · 16/10/2022 18:00

I remember the Jerry thread! It was so very cruel, actual widows had taken the time to support her. Why do they do it?

A580Hojas · 17/10/2022 08:50

I fondly remember a middle class "neglectful" parenting thread started early in the career of a notorious snob and braggard on here. They were spending a gorgeous weekend in the enormous house of dear dear friends and had barely set eyes on the young children - who were busy having adventures playing in the attic/making brooks in the stream/feeding the chickens etc - while the grown ups had sophisticated adult time and the finest food and wines.

I'd love to read that in it's entirety again but it would be meaningless if it still exists because the poster has since had all her posts deleted under that and several other names. The price you pay for over-sharing.
