What is the most memorable thread on here?

What's yours? I remember the Dumped By Text one a couple of years ago (by the girl who ran in the rain!) She was very inspirational.

OP posts:
MysteryCallWTF · 09/10/2022 19:02

The one about TripAdvisor reviews. Cockroach powder and prostitutes, and everything in between. I still re-read it from time to time if I need a laugh. First time I read it I laughed so much I almost did myself a mischief. Ditto 'I Pooed On My Skirt At Work Today'. Me and DD will often fill the odd quiet moment by one of us whispering 'If I move I'll poo'. Particularly in Marks & Spencer.

Cherryapples · 09/10/2022 19:04

I swear I am not trying to sound like an arse but does anyone have the sort of opposite to everyone else and just not get the hilarity of some of these?

Like he pushchair one is a bit amusing but not THAT funny. Never really ‘got’ the elderly Korean lady either.

WTAFSomedays · 09/10/2022 19:05

Some threads are memorable for sad/bad reasons.

Many of the comedy ones have already been mentioned and are in classics. Think things less likely to go in classics these days as the tone of the site has changed but often I find MN at its finest when a thread emerges based on one-liner reposts/double entendres.

WTAFSomedays · 09/10/2022 19:06

I think if you were live on some of these threads it was funnier @Cherryapples. Was on the Penis Beaker thread and Lemon Drizzle plus others and it was way more entertaining than just reading back IYSWIM.

Cherryapples · 09/10/2022 19:07

Maybe but you couldn’t really be live on the pushchair thread, no one posted on it 😅

emmathedilemma · 09/10/2022 19:08

Penisbeaker was probably my first foray into mumsnet. Absolute classic.
the lady who thought she couldn’t have kids and had given up trying who recently gave birth. I cried reading that thread. I think it was titled “is this positive” and everyone it was going to be yet another covid test question.

emmathedilemma · 09/10/2022 19:09

Oh and the lady who found a small horse tied up in her front garden and proceeded to draw a “parking diagram” of said horse! 🐴

Sweetpea1532 · 09/10/2022 19:09

Does anyone remember a thread that was titled something like
' If my toddler ( or 3year old) had access to AIBU?
I can't find it anywhere, but tbf I'm the worst searcher in the world.

workiskillingme · 09/10/2022 19:10

The woman who shouted 'Willy Willy Willy ' was one of my faves

Bucketsofrain77 · 09/10/2022 19:10

Years ago, perhaps in the early 2000s or earlier, Mumsnetters used to refer to a thread where the op had anxiety about travelling, or was travelling in very difficult circumstances, but had to make a long journey nonetheless, and it was decided that a Mumsnetter would be posted at each station en route to hold up
a supportive sign, or to be on hand in case of need, as the train made its way down south.
That’s what I recall anyway!

I never read the thread myself, I only read about it second hand on other threads, but I always wondered whether the story was apocryphal or whether it had actually happened or whether my memory is playing tricks on me.

I always wanted it to be true though! 😀

GrowThroughWhatYouGoThrough · 09/10/2022 19:11

Penis beaker!

tenbob · 09/10/2022 19:13

Cancel the cheque and the one where someone had been uninvited from a wedding but the bride wanted her to still come to the venue beforehand and help decorate it

One of the first threads I ever read on here, when debating whether to start TTC, was someone declaring they were stopping having showers while pregnant because they were worried about catching legionaries disease, and would only have baths

I was a bit scared of MN and TTC after that, and assumed that sort of batshittery was normal here

Rogue1001MNer · 09/10/2022 19:13

Brian from Hull wins for me.

And I also lived Runningintherain and how she turned herself around.

And the Easter bonnet

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 09/10/2022 19:14

I know there have been loads of sincere and heartrending threads, but the two that always stick in my mind are the Unreasonable Supersoaker, and the one where the husband ate the fat balls ("I've double-bagged him").

Here you go! Enjoy! Absolutely beautiful thread.

OP first posted in 2013 when her DD was 7; and gave an update this summer - DD is now 16 and loves the story.

Thank you so much for finding this. Fabulous thread! Love the update too. Made me well up!

freakydeaky · 09/10/2022 19:15

I’m going back years now, but there was one about a blind date where they were meeting at the penguin enclosure at the zoo? Can’t remember the details but I found it funny at the time, was one of the first threads I read on here.

And for the absolute power of Mumsnet, I’ll never forget the wonderful support and encouragement given to a poster who wanted to leave an abusive marriage, she was terrified but got out, practically updating as she went, think she hired a car to escape in.
So many posters cheering her on, willing her to get herself to a place of safety - and she did it! I never knew it was possible to feel such relief for someone I’d never met.
Think she changed her name on later updates, but I was so happy to hear that she escaped. I hope she’s still safe and is happy now.

Malfi · 09/10/2022 19:18

A sad one - by Twitter Queen - and her life and ultimate death with ovarian cancer. I often think of her and her three young daughters.

Yes indeed. I often think of her too and the practical and brave way she faced the reality of her situation without self pity. Very sad but also inspiring.

Cloverforever · 09/10/2022 19:23

It was the death of baby Maude that stays with me, and Misdee's Peter' pinking up. Going through someone's heartbreak and pain with them from behind a screen can be surpringly emotional.

I've reached the point where the DD gets her first postcard and I'm in tears. What a beautiful thread. I'm going back for more!

It's the relationships ones that always stay with me. There's a long-running thread (s) about a mum & her estranged (mostly) DD who's in a desperate relationship. OP is very eloquent but it's so painful.

Haven't seen an update for a while. Really sadly her DH passed away in recent years, she has dealt with a lot (has two other DDs where all is well, thankfully)

I rarely find the 'hilarious' ones that engaging, after the original joking eg 'snapped & farted', 'Sistine' and if I never saw the words 'penis beaker' again it would be too soon.
One that I did like & remember was the dad feeding his DC badger.... My kids' dad fed them badger www.mumsnet.com/Talk/mumsnet_classics/3425075-My-kids-dad-fed-them-badger

Yeah wasn’t her daughter in Ireland with a Twat of a husband. I can’t remember her username though. She would do updates with weeks in between .

LadyVictoriaSponge · 09/10/2022 19:43

The one that made me laugh was the does my son have a Richard the third haircut? Not sure if it made it to classics.
