How many people have you spoken to today?

bloodywhitecat · 08/10/2022 19:19

I haven't spoken to a single soul and am not likely to tomorrow either, it feels weird to not have spoken to a single person in 24 hours.

OP posts:
CoodleMoodle · 08/10/2022 20:16

3 family members in the house (DH and 2DC)
1 family member on the phone (DM)
1 friend on the phone
1 shop assistant at the garden centre
1 parent at swimming (just a hello)

So 7 but two of them were extremely brief.

ChocolateCrepe · 08/10/2022 20:17

DP
DS1
DD1
DS2
DD2
Mum
Dad
And the dog - I get the most sense out of her 😊
But I haven’t left the house today … or yesterday 🤦🏻‍♀️

Mombie2016 · 08/10/2022 20:18

Just my 6YO.

Most days I only speak to my children. Even when I’m at Uni, I often don’t speak to anyone as I’m a mature student, the only one in my cohort.

Me and my friends (3, close) try to ring each other once a week but between kids and work, it’s hard. We do message on WhatsApp almost daily, but it’s not the same.

Lockdown absolutely destroyed me. No family, my friends bubbled with their elderly parents. No adult conversation or contact whatsoever drove me insane.

Kennykenkencat · 08/10/2022 20:18

Lost count. Definitely more than 10 and less than 100.

I used to not speak to anyone other than Dh when we lived in a village. I think I went 12 years with only speaking to maybe 8 people
Dh, our friends from when we lived in London and the person who ran the local corner shop and that was only to say thank. you when she handed the bag over to me.

I hear you, this is exactly my position except DH died 7 months ago. It's a hard and lonely place to be. I am going to go for a walk tomorrow so I can at least say "Hi" to people on my way past them. All of my friends have husbands or partners and are busy at the weekend and I would feel like a spare part if I were to intrude on their weekend time together.

Are you sure your friends wouldn’t like to see you at weekends? Plenty of people don’t spend all of their time with partners or spouses. Perhaps suggest meeting up? If they never see you at weekends because they are tied to their partners, I wouldn’t count them as friends.

seperatedmum · 08/10/2022 20:19

all 4 children
STBXH
2 neighbour's children
other neighbour
ice cream man lol

many days it's just the children if no work/weekday

Mombie2016 · 08/10/2022 20:19

Not a widow but a single parent, have been for years and weekends are the worst.

Brigante9 · 08/10/2022 20:19

Numpty Akita owner who wanted his onlead rearing dog to say hello to my three that I’d put onlead as a courtesy. Had an hour’s call why mum and obviously been speaking to my DH.

6poundshower · 08/10/2022 20:22

As in, more than 'here's your receipt'?

If you include work meetings, 24 hours.

Discounting work... I had a conversation with another parent about a week ago. And another the week before that.

If you mean a real conversation where I can truly share anything about myself, discuss something that matters to me, how I'm feeling... I can't even remember. Months.

ncforyetanotherone · 08/10/2022 20:24

Ooh quite a few. Husband & child, beautician, large room full of DH friends, family and kids.

6poundshower · 08/10/2022 20:24

I'm a single parent, for context. I think you just get used to going through the motions of life, noone cares what you think or how you feel. You stop expecting them to, even if you never stop needing it.

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 08/10/2022 20:25

Hugs, @bloodywhitecat. Your house must feel extra empty now both the fosterlings have moved on.

Today, I’ve spoken to:
DD
DP
DD’s carer 1
DD’s carer 2
Woman who served me in department store restaurant
Bloke on till
Multiple waitresses in tea shop
Postman
Woman at Aldi self-service checkout
Both parents on the phone

13 in total, I think. But I’m probably forgetting someone.

YesIReallyDoLikeRootBeer · 08/10/2022 20:27

DH and DS at home.
DS, DIL and Grandson at their house
Several little kids and a couple parents who I saw at the park with my grandson

Hbh17 · 08/10/2022 20:29

I can easily go several days without speaking to anyone - I absolutely love it. (Today was 2, in person, which is more than normal on a Saturday).
Hate the phone, so only use that for absolutely essential admin calls - maybe 5 or 6 times a year.
I don't like unnecessary chit chat, so I always choose self checkout in supermarkets, if possible.

stormelf · 08/10/2022 20:36

Quite a few people today due to children's dance classes and a birthday party but tomorrow I will just have my three children (4 and under) to talk to as we are staying in and DH will leave early for work and not get back until late

ApolloandDaphne · 08/10/2022 20:37

Loads. I'm at a wedding. I am chatting with people I haven't seen for years.

Imissmoominmama · 08/10/2022 20:39

Four. DH, DS2, a man with a dog, and the lady from the upholsterers (the last two were on my dog walk).

Same. It’s a fucker, isn’t it?

mamaduckbone · 08/10/2022 20:47
  1. Dh, both dc and my mum.
JMAngel1 · 08/10/2022 21:17

Too many!
Dh and 2 DDs
Best friend's DH in supermarket
Bumped into a good friend in the village
Three mum's while picking up 3 children to take to DD's party
Met best friend for coffee whilst DD having Pizza Hut party
Numerous restaurant/shop staff

Rainbowcat99 · 08/10/2022 21:18

Actually spoken to today? Nobody.
Yesterday, my ds on FaceTime
The day before a handful of people on a work conference.
Wednesday: my mum and dad.

I've exchanged lots of texts, WhatsApp and Facebook messages though.

I have Covid, am stuck at home and my ds chose to stay with his dad (don't blame him)

The loneliness in this pandemic has been hard.

DaisyWaldron · 08/10/2022 21:25

I work in a shop where people tend to talk to me quite a lot, so probably a couple of hundred. Of those, ten were long chats with colleagues and family, and I'd guess that around twenty of the chats with customers were more significant than just small talk.

blackberrybat · 08/10/2022 21:27

DH
DM
Friend
3 waiting staff in cafe
Checkout lady in Waitrose
2 staff in TK Maxx Plus a fellow customer
2 bar staff in pub
Man at bar
3 people at next table In pub

So 16. Unusually high for me I'd say!

Bonjovispjs · 08/10/2022 21:29

None, unless you include the cat 😺 and that's just how I like it. I talk to plenty of people during the week, the weekends are just for me.

Bbq1 · 08/10/2022 21:33
