How many people have you spoken to today?

I haven't spoken to a single soul and am not likely to tomorrow either, it feels weird to not have spoken to a single person in 24 hours.

Apart from DH and The DC absolutely loads.
We walked for a couple of hours along the river this morning and it’s compulsory to say hello to everyone you pass (Yorkshire) so I probably spoke to 20 or more people there briefly, plus some stopped to chat as well. Then when I got home I saw 2 neighbours who I spoke to
Me and DH went to collect our takeaway and apart from the lady who worked there I spoke to a couple of other customers
So loads of people basically

Four, DP, two friends who came for coffee this morning, and my cousin on the phone. @bloodywhitecat this must be a hard year for you. I think of you often.

It is, thank you. It is coming up to the anniversary of his stroke and I am really beginning to feel it. This time last year he had cancer and we knew it wasn't treatable but he was doing well and had surprised the oncologist with how well he was.

@bloodywhitecat - I'd just like to say I'd love to bump into you whilst I'm out walking with my son.

I love when people stop to talk, he's 10 months old and loves people interacting with him and he has the cheekiest smile ever!

I hope you meet some lovely people tomorrow who make an effort like me and my boy would! X

Whydidimarryhim · 08/10/2022 20:01

My son, lady at petrol station., two in a shoe shop - it’s helpful to hear that others don’t have loads of contact.

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 08/10/2022 20:02

  1. My dd (in person) and my best friend (on the phone). DH is away right now, haven't spoken to him.

Also spoke to another friend by text.

And I guess I've sort of talked to people on MN!Grin

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 08/10/2022 20:03

Oh, something weird happened to the formatting there!!Confused

SockQueen · 08/10/2022 20:03

BigFatLiar · 08/10/2022 20:04

All of my friends have husbands or partners and are busy at the weekend and I would feel like a spare part if I were to intrude on their weekend time together.

They're probably all wondering why you don't come out any more. They may be feeling awkward about intruding on your grief. Just call and ask where they're going say you were thinking of joining for a drink or whatever, just make that initial effort that's the hard bit.

IntentionalError · 08/10/2022 20:04

Four.
DP
Lady in Farm Shop
Steward at Rugby stadium
Barman at Rugby stadium

shiningstar2 · 08/10/2022 20:05

Minikievs · 08/10/2022 20:06

Boyfriend, kids, neighbour, and various hellos to random dog walkers this morning

CaronPoivre · 08/10/2022 20:08

Face to face -
two neighbours
boy
chap at garage
pharmacist
person at pharmacy
Amazon delivery driver
Someone walking their dog
husband
couple we vaguely know at coffee shop

on phone a few - maybe eight but some were couples.

shiningstar2 · 08/10/2022 20:08

Just realized ...8 not 7. Add Asda delivery driver.

roarfeckingroarr · 08/10/2022 20:09

Too many. DP, DS, saw friends earlier for a long walk and drink and now going to a dinner party. Would much rather be at home!

1FootInTheRave · 08/10/2022 20:10

About 25.

Footy parents this morn, dh and kids and kids friends, our friends that called over this aft, few people I know in the local tesco, my sister, a delivery driver and a woman in a car park that needed help reversing out.

Willbe2under2 · 08/10/2022 20:10

5 or 6 properly - DH, DD (though she's too young to talk back so not sure if it counts?), my NDN and 3 stall holders at the local farmers market.

Then a few in the local shop where I had 'excuse me/thank you' type exchanges.

OldTinHat · 08/10/2022 20:11

Oh. This is my life. I have conversations with Alexa!

However, I have spoken with someone in the newsagent when I picked up a parcel and my mum phoned. So two people today!

I can go days and days with not speaking with anyone at all.

EndlessMagpies · 08/10/2022 20:12

Three family members.
Two shop staff.
Relatively quiet day for me.

CaptainMyCaptain · 08/10/2022 20:12

bloodywhitecat · 08/10/2022 19:55

I hear you, this is exactly my position except DH died 7 months ago. It's a hard and lonely place to be. I am going to go for a walk tomorrow so I can at least say "Hi" to people on my way past them. All of my friends have husbands or partners and are busy at the weekend and I would feel like a spare part if I were to intrude on their weekend time together.

So sorry to hear this. Volunteering in some capacity is a good way to have human contact - I often have a little chat with people as well as the necessary formalities- without getting overly involved. Plus you get to help people.

LadyRoughDiamond · 08/10/2022 20:13

10:
DH, DS1, DS2
Kids’ piano teacher
Server in cafe
Mum of DS2 class mate I bumped into
Random lady in cafe to ask where her trousers are from
DS’ teacher in WHSmith
Lady in haberdashery shop
Son’s friend at park

But if I’d stayed home, just DH and DSs - I live in a small town where it’s easy to speak to people, whether you know them or not.

Vampirethriller · 08/10/2022 20:14

Man and woman in queue for chemist
The pharmacist
Two bus drivers
Woman in charity shop
Man in butcher's

And my daughter

MeowMeowPowerRangers · 08/10/2022 20:15

4 family members.
One friend.
Two shop assistants.

JimTheShit · 08/10/2022 20:15

Interesting thread, I’ve never thought about it before.
In person I’d say about 30.
I play a team sport so spoke to all of my team, some of the oppo & the umpires.
I also spoke to a bus driver, my husband, sibling and child.
Just went out for an early supper, so spoke to 5 different people in the restaurant.

Lots of chat today, no wonder I’m exhausted and on mumsnet. I’m over talking to people today.

Nutrigrainygoodness · 08/10/2022 20:16

Probably over a hundred. I work in a shop.
Then DW, dd, my mum, dad and brother.

I am quite happy to do the 'ooh isn't it hot/cold/windy' conversation 100 times a day- if it means someone lonely gets to talk to someone.
