The toddler has gone e to bed wearing her swimming costume... What's your "let it go" story? 😂

I couldn't think of any good reason for her not to when she asked and thought.... let it go! LOL. So she's happily snoozing away in a one piece!

Any times you've decided not to bother fighting/dying on a hill/gone "ah screw it"?

What a lovely thread. Especially all the memories of toddlers now all grown up are making me misty eyed! @thegreylady oh so cute!
My DD4 is going through a stage of refusing to take off her WonderWoman costume for bed so like a fool I bought her WW pyjamas. DS2 has to go to sleep clutching a toy train in each tiny hand 😂

This thread was posted before it was even 6pm?! Why are they going to bed at teatime?!

Because she's 2, and is asleep by 6pm most nights. Sleeps though til 7/7:30. No day time nap, so her teatime is actually 4:30, because she's upstairs at 5:30 for bath, teeth and book.

Why does it matter anyway???

And it’s all about control ! As the parent you make the decisions, always say yes if you can , if you have to say no , mean it

Yep 😁what gave it away?

@Autumnwinterspringsummer I am in Scotland atb that sounds like something I could probably eat

Bouledeneige · 04/10/2022 22:43

One year the night before we went to Cornwall for half term DS insisted on going to bed with his body board. I thought it was funny.

SuperstarDJsherewego · 04/10/2022 22:56

miss 5 likes to get herself dressed and will often colour block her outfit. This weekend she found a Christmas t shirt so wore that!
She also believes since about age 2 that you can only run fast in shorts. So she wears shorts all year round. I did object to this is winter so she wears shorts…over her trousers! I have drawn a line on this for school uniform but otherwise who cares?!

Sandysandwich · 04/10/2022 23:12

When he was three DS decided that if he had to wear underpants he should get to wear "overpants" too.

He insisted on wearing an additional pair of pants for about a week, it started as two pairs under his trousers and then became one pair normally and one pair over his trousers like superman. Luckily that only lasted a day.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 04/10/2022 23:19

Not one of ours, but a few days after Christmas we met a BiL and some friends of his for lunch in the Savoy. His friends’ little boy of about 4 had insisted on wearing his Superman outfit - apparently he hadn’t taken it off since Christmas morning! But he was extremely well behaved - parents confessed to telling him that it was a very smart place and the Queen might be there, so he’d better be extra good. More than once he looked around and whispered, ‘Is she here yet?’ 😂

CaptainBarbosa · 04/10/2022 23:21

DS when he was aged 3 went to bed each night dressed as a wizard for about a fortnight, he had the costume for Halloween and decided this was perfect night time attire.

He also about aged 2 would only leave the house in dinosaur wellington boots. Whatever the outfit had to wear the wellies, this also lasted about a fortnight.

pastaparadise · 04/10/2022 23:43

Ds has a few sensitivities. When younger his hair was only washed once every month or two, rarely brushed, and cut while he was asleep. Looked like a caveman for a while 😄 And nails were snipped while he was asleep. I'm a big believer in say yes when you can

TooMuchToDoTooLittleInclination · 04/10/2022 23:45

We had tinkerbell live with us for weeks!

Angelofthenortheast · 04/10/2022 23:51

My mum let me use the word 'slag' as a verb after I told her I thought I'd invented a new word for relaxing. So I used to go around saying stuff like "I've been slagging all day!" until I was 11

thaegumathteth · 04/10/2022 23:57

Ds nothing major comes to mind

Dd every single day of her life aged 18m-7y. I just had to survive.

Notable ones

Wellies, soldier hat, tutu and shield for the school run to get ds

Princess dress to go watch a football match

Sparkling Elsa cape and massive long blonde wig to go to the doctors

Thinkingblonde · 04/10/2022 23:59

My granddaughter aged 4 at the time, couldn’t decide what to wear one day for a trip to the park on her bike, so she wore swimming goggles, a safety helmet, football kit, armbands and a football scarf. We got some looks.
She had a phase when she hated wearing clothes, she insisted she was always too hot, even in winter. As soon as we got indoors she stripped off and stayed like it until bedtime then put her PJ’s on. She has turned this on it’s head now she’s seven, wears clothes during the day but strips off and goes to bed naked.

thaegumathteth · 05/10/2022 00:01

Oh and also aged 7 Dd fell and split her head open. For about a week afterwards she insisted on wearing a cycling helmet 24/7. Horse had bolted but never mind.

FruitPastilleNut · 05/10/2022 00:07

Not child related but our puppy is currently chewing up a sock.

She's side eyeing me, she bloody KNOWS, but I just don't have it in me so I'm pretending i haven't seen 🤦🏻‍♀️

Bouledeneige · 05/10/2022 00:20

Well I can't really laugh. Because when I was a toddler I spent a year wearing a sheep outfit.

Horizons83 · 05/10/2022 00:24

DD is currently insisting on wearing her £3 plastic Tesco sandals to nursery every day rather than the £40 boots we purchased. I assume at some point it will get too cold and she will revert back.

In order to get her in the car in the morning I have been allowing her to bring her glockenspiel with her.. “My TUNES mummy, my TUNES!”. I’m not at all sure this is sensible from a safety point of view, but on the occasions I’ve not been able to persuade her to put it in the boot it’s been nice having the musical accompaniment.

Redshoeblueshoe · 05/10/2022 00:41

I'm loving this thread, some of these are giving me stitches 😂

BarnacleNora · 05/10/2022 02:02

DS1 used to creep out of his bed every night and contort himself into the laundry basket in his room and fall back asleep. He used to sleep walk so the first time he did it I assumed that was what had happened but turns out he just really liked sleeping in there.

DS2, after a truly heroic attempt at filling up pretty much all of the squares on the massive Elmer collage at pre school (was meant to be a collaborative effort between all the kids but apparently DS was the most enthusiastic about it) was allowed to bring this truly enormous (bigger than A1) colourful card elephant home. And of course then insisted on having it in bed with him every night for weeks. Ive no idea how he managed to actually sleep with that thing taking over his bed. The pre school staff gave him a cuddly Elmer on his last day Grin

Cyprusx · 05/10/2022 02:13

This is such a sweet and funny thread 🥹🥹 kids are so pure and unintentionally hilarious.

My little brothers was remote controls, the only thing that made him happy. We had to call ahead when visiting people to hide them cos he'd swipe them all. First day at school picture, remote control 😂

InvincibleInvisibility · 05/10/2022 02:48

My mum told me very early on that when you want to say no to a child, think about why it is. If there's actually no good reason then just go with it.

One evening I was struggling to get my 2 to bed (DH wasn't there and they both have ADHD so are allergic to sleep). At 8.30pm my 4 year old desperately wanted to eat peas. So i have a gorgeous photo of him eating a huge bowl of peas and ketchup at 8.40pm with the biggest grin on his face. He even accepted brushing his teeth a second time.

Mummyoflittledragon · 05/10/2022 03:23

@PuttingDownRoots My dd also did the sleeping in a box when she was about 6/7. We’d decorated it as her favourite character and then she wanted to sleep in it. I told her it wouldn’t be comfortable as the box wasn’t long enough. She decided to negotiate with me for every other night. It lasted 2 nights. She also would only go to sleep in it in on her bed so I had to wait until she was asleep to put the box on the floor.

mumofmunchkin · 05/10/2022 05:53

One of mine went through a phase of absolutely hating getting changed, full on tantrums, the works, so we did 24 hour outfits - he was willing to get undressed to get in the bath, then fresh clothes on after the bath to go to bed and he wore those until bathtime the next day. That was my 3rd kid, standards had definitely dropped!

When he was 3, my second would just go and change into his pyjamas at any opportunity during the day. I gave up repeatedly changing him back and just took him out in his pyjamas.

LuckyMummy7 · 05/10/2022 05:58

Haha, this is amazing!
