The toddler has gone e to bed wearing her swimming costume... What's your "let it go" story? 😂

I couldn't think of any good reason for her not to when she asked and thought.... let it go! LOL. So she's happily snoozing away in a one piece!

Any times you've decided not to bother fighting/dying on a hill/gone "ah screw it"?

I once had a toddler I was babysitting have a HUGE meltdown because I wouldn't let her sleep on her bedroom floor (she had insisted Daddy had said she could!). It was only when her parents got home that they sheepishly admitted he had said that!! A little heads up might have been nice! I still feel guilty about that!

Oh god loads of times. DD was particularly fond of my rolling pin with snowmen sort of printed on it and her jelly shoes. Know what, she’s 18 in April and joining the Navy, she doesn’t wear her sparkly purple jelly shoes or sleep with a rolling pin anymore.

TheVanguardSix · 04/10/2022 19:20

DD went through a phase when she was 3 of not settling into bed unless she held onto a head of broccoli. Forget teddy bears/soft toys. It was broccoli or tears! It was a small nightmare if we ran out of broccoli. In fact, the whole thing was just downright weird! 😆

A friends 7 year old son painted himself green while his mum was taking a shower thinking that would get him a day off school. My friend who had to get to work and really had no time for a debate just took him to school as he was and told the teacher “ Ben is having a green day today “ strangely he never did it again.

When my son was 16 he came home looking like an actual toothbrush, think bald sides and back, ridiculous high quiff standing about 6 inches straight up from the top of his head.
The photos make me laugh so much now, and it grew out easy enough

cptartapp · 04/10/2022 19:29

DS1 used to go off to nursery with an upturned beach bucket on his head and socks on his hands.
He's 19 now and won't have it.

PuttingDownRoots · 04/10/2022 19:29

My DD slept in a box for a week. Several times at different ages.

Its now progressed to sleeping under a bush in the garden.... (in the summer, with proper kit.)

We weren't surprised when she got the top mark in Survival School...

Verytirednow · 04/10/2022 19:29

PJ to nursery regularly...cannot be bothered with the stress. Takes toothbrush as well!

HellToupee · 04/10/2022 19:30

DC2 insisted on wearing his. Right green crocs all day, every day.

At the end of the day they would have a bath with him and he would wear them in bed (until the croc fairy came to take them off once he was asleep).

I did consider in-friending his godmother who bought him the silly things for a while….

FlibbertyGibbitt · 04/10/2022 19:33

Both of mine used to wear wellies and swimming goggles in the bath. Good times !

NoGoHoliday · 04/10/2022 19:35

A black puffa coat to bed… it was his “most bestest favouritist” coat in the “whole, whole, wide, wide world” I went in later and gently removed it…. I’ve just asked him now if he remembered this amazing coat….Nope he doesn’t! He’s 37 in a few weeks😄

Giggorata · 04/10/2022 19:45

DS1 went through a stage of wearing my velvet hooded coat with wellies when he was about five. it sort of heralded the teenage years, when he became a rock musician, with waist length hair and flamboyant clothes. (He dresses ultra conservatively nowadays)
DS2 spent the whole summer sleeping in a tent in the paddock when he was about eight. When the first frost came in October we insisted he came inside.

We were getting lunch at a deli.
3 year old wanted a roll with chicken goujon, black pudding and cheese in it. I let him have it and DH was disgusted.

@Autumnwinterspringsummer tgis must be Ireland surely?!

Danikm151 · 04/10/2022 20:05

My little one insists on taking a different toy car to bed every night. It’s all fine until it’s a toot toot- mad dash up the stairs to turn it off 😂

EntertainingandFactual · 04/10/2022 20:12

DD’s entire holiday backpack (was meant to contain books, colouring pencils, travel games) got filled with ‘holiday outfits’ for her bear. Several different ones for each day of the holiday… The bear took more changes of clothes than we did.

Isaidnoalready · 04/10/2022 20:13

A potatoe he asked for one when we were looking around someone's house I said no the baffled mom thought maybe he wanted an apple instead? No he wanted the potato she gave it too him he carried it around and if I remember rightly he took it to bed that night (he definitely slept with a potato at some point) the whose experience was slightly surreal as we were considering swapping houses with them but he was financially dodgy to the extreme (your not the type to grass us up to debt collectors yeah?) And getting me to sort out his wife's online banking while I was there 😅 we never did exchange houses but they were rather unforgettable

rainyskylight · 04/10/2022 20:19

After having battles my almost two year old through bedtime, I really needed this. Thanks MN.

Yarnosaur · 04/10/2022 20:22

I love hearing these!

Mine went to bed firmly clutching a toy Renault Modus car for so long he wore the paint off it, he also had a spell of carrying a pink washing up brush everywhere Confused

cheapskatemum · 04/10/2022 20:25

DS3 loved his new Boden PJs (pale blue with planes, boats & cars on) so much he insisted on wearing them out to the shops. I must remind him of that now he's 27.

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 04/10/2022 20:31

DD1 - a raw leek to gnaw on whilst we went round Sainsbury's

DD2 - Christmas dinner in knickers and sunglasses as "I am werry stylish"

See also going to bed with a receipt, a coffee scoop, various other random objects...

DS - colouring himself in green "becos I am a frog"; also, pretending to be a Disney princess called Show-Yourself that goes down the slide backwards; also, hoovering the patio

maltesersarethedevil · 04/10/2022 20:37

I know of a small boy who would only go to bed with batteries and a screw driver under his pillow (it was the 80's)

Autumnwinterspringsummer · 04/10/2022 20:40

Redglitter · 04/10/2022 18:57

That sounds really good. That's my kind of roll 😂

😂I could stomach these separately but not altogether at once.

To be fair though I once heard a man ordering a roll witg sausage, brown sauce and cheese which sounds much worse.

Yep 😁what gave it away?

allboysherebutme · 04/10/2022 20:43

Going to bed dressed up as Batman or Spider-Man. X

BlodynGwyn · 04/10/2022 20:46

When I son was about three or four he liked to dress himself, but in the same outfit everyday because it was easy for him to get on. It was a pair of stretchy shorts and his cowboy boots. The shorts were so small for him they looked like underwear. All summer he dressed like this. We live on a farm so nobody saw him, but I do have a few snaps of him hiking around the place.
