What Is The Best Potato Thing?

Mashed, boiled, chips, fried, croquettes, baked, dolphinwars, crisps, or other?

I'd go for chips, followed by mashed with cheese, butter and garlic second.

All ways aside from mash.

Mash is rank.

<gasp>

YOU TAKE THAT BACK!

Champ (mashed potato loads of butter and chopped scallions) 👌

Cornettoninja · 27/11/2022 20:25

Scalloped, as in chip shop style battered thick slices deep fried with salt and vinegar. The south has no idea what it’s missing.

I also love gnocchi. When pasta isn’t ‘carby’ enough, gnocchi comes to the rescue!

JanglyBeads · 27/11/2022 21:25

Gnocchi makes me want to 🤮

SlatternIsMyMiddleName · 27/11/2022 21:57

Vodka

🤣 very good.

Eyesopenwideawake · 27/11/2022 22:05

Have learn to make a stonking fondant (with wine in the stock) and Pommes Ana is also a favourite but recently got blown away by Lidl's gratin potatoes with Emmental. Fucking awesome!

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 27/11/2022 22:07

Fuck all of you, potato scallops are the best

Gnocchi makes me want to 🤮

You’ve never tried Nigellas roastinis I’m guessing. Fry off those little buggers in some nice oil until crispy and golden, and voila, quick and crunchy mini roasties😍

GreenOxide · 28/11/2022 21:26

@GirlGotGuts

What’s this potato I’ve not tried!!!! Does the gnocchi get boiled first or just straight into the oil? I’ve bought some, not homemade, ok?

Mysterian · 28/11/2022 21:28

Traditionally I believe you boil the gnocchi but I like to fry mine and add sauce to it afterwards.

No pre boiling, just heat a really good glug of oil and Chuck ‘em in. Give them a stir from time to time. Serious game changer. You can do them roasted in the oven apparently, but I like them fried, they seem to cook quicker, and get a better crispy edge. I’ve only used the De Cecco pre-made ones this way, but assume it works for all other pre packed gnocchi.

Flooper · 28/11/2022 21:46

Yes, you gotta fry gnocchi.

Furries · 28/11/2022 21:52

Definitely roast potatoes. Mash, though, is one of the rankest foodstuffs ever.

Am loving the dolphinwars - for those that haven’t seen it, it’s made me th8nk of this thread

Definite contender. You must be northern ?

catinboots123 · 28/11/2022 22:14

I dunno but I saw this curly spiral potato thing on TikTok that was sold at Winter Wonderland and it looked like the best piece of food on the planet so now I want to go

Jewelanemone · 28/11/2022 22:41

Vodka.

Mysterian · 28/11/2022 22:44

The Winter Wonderland Potato Spiral On A Stick (TWWPSOAS) intrigues me and scares me a little. It's too long for a potato snack yet it looks delicious, but is it just a hard to eat long crisp? Will it shatter when bitten? Is it salted? It's a major financial investment too. I just don't think it's a journey of potatoey discovery I'm ready to make at the moment. I'm going to stick with the chorros.

Is dolphinwars a new way of saying dauphinoise?

Roast potatoes
New Jersey potatoes
Jacket pots baked in proper oven not microwave

Deathraystare · 29/11/2022 13:49

It is all good. The potato is king! I know low carbers will say otherwise.

Jellycatspyjamas · 29/11/2022 14:36

Scalloped, as in chip shop style battered thick slices deep fried with salt and vinegar. The south has no idea what it’s missing.

We call them fritters in my part of Scotland and they are truly food of the Gods.

BarbaraofSeville · 29/11/2022 17:51

I think I could live on most of these.

And just when you think no-one could think of something new, may I offer the vada pav, the Indian alternative to a burger, spiced mash potato deep fried in spiced gram flour batter and served covered in spiced sauces in a bread roll of some type.
