What Is The Best Potato Thing?

Mashed, boiled, chips, fried, croquettes, baked, dolphinwars, crisps, or other?

I'd go for chips, followed by mashed with cheese, butter and garlic second.

Going against the grain to stay dolphinwars are the worst potato item as I had really creamy food! Will eat all other potato items as I just love potatoes - top 3 is definitely crispy roasties, creamy mash and chippy chips!

Special shout-out to pomme noisettes - who remembers those? Used to love them when I had school dinners!

WinterDeWinter · 03/10/2022 23:04

Oh man, fried leftover new pots with salt and brown sauce.

Wideawakeandconfused · 03/10/2022 23:04

It’s got to be roasted, unless your talking sweet potato and then chipped!

But isn’t this all pointless; it doesn’t matter what type you’re eating, your stomach thinks you’re having mash…!

Sliced potatoes layered with matchsticked leeks. Vegetable stock, loads of salt and pepper, butter dotted on top. Baked. There's nothing lovelier.

If we're talking worst, how about potato faces. Or the "waffly versatile" potato waffles that sailor makes?

Waffles are fab, we use them as hash brown replacements in our house as they can go in the toaster! (Saving energy Grin)

Dolphin wars just had me spitting out my drink at my kids gymnastics class Grin

Today I bought potato paratha from the world food shop and I have high hopes. I have already eaten, obviously, the family pack of potato borek which is Turkish potatoes in filo pastry. Guiltless potato eating is the beast bit about veganism.

BamBamBilla · 03/10/2022 23:07

Tartiflette. Like dolphinwars on steroids. Proper lush.

PollyCreo · 03/10/2022 23:11

Bombay potatoes! I batch cooked them (HA!) last night so have a whole week of them ahead 🥔🌶️🥔🥔🌶️

MoaningMaude · 03/10/2022 23:16

All potatoes are good potatoes, for a filthy pmt lunch there is nothing better than 3 hash browns and cheese sandwiched between 2 potato waffles, it is the food of the gods when you need that greasy carby stodge.

PollyCreo · 03/10/2022 23:17

However if you want to go hardcore... do these!

A potato is the best thing. However it is dressed for the party.

And that is all.

treadcarefully · 03/10/2022 23:29

Sautéed potatoes in butter, garlic and lashings of salt. Add chilli flakes for a twist 😋

Blueberrycreampie · 03/10/2022 23:40

Used to love proper Ayrshire new spuds with Lurpak butter, or potato fritters from the chip shop, tattie scones are also lovely. These days good triple cooked chips have to suffice.

Unicorn34 · 03/10/2022 23:45

Chips definitely. Also I do this thing with new potatoes - boil til soft, put one in each section of a 12 Yorkshire pudding tin, squash with a fork so they split then add a dollop of garlic butter and a sprinkle of cheese on top, put in the oven til golden. You can add anything on them really, bacon, chorizo etc.

Nat6999 · 03/10/2022 23:46

Chips, crisps, dauphinoise

MrsTerryPratchett · 03/10/2022 23:47

Dolphinwars every time.

I love you.

KimberleyClark · 03/10/2022 23:49

Cheesy chips.

Damnloginpopup · 03/10/2022 23:56

Dolphinwars is brilliant. Thank you.

Absolute best us a beautiful buttery salty peppery mash formed into a patty and left over night in the fridge then pan fried in hot lard. The crispy surface when you flip it is awesome - I flip them repeatedly and eat half if it before it gets to the plate. Glorious.

Pommes noisettes are in Lidl every time they do French week. 99p a bag for years but probably going to be nearer a fiver next time...
But obviously I'm here for the Dolphin wars.

Homemade chips fried in Vegetaline. Cheesy mash. Baked potato with cheese and coleslaw. Dauphinoise. Rosti. Jersey Royals with butter and salt. Roasties in goose fat. Diced and sautéed with butter and a couple of garlic cloves.

I would struggle to put them into order of preference. How can you pick just one?

RosalindsAFuckingNightmare · 04/10/2022 01:02

How has no one mentioned bubble and squeak? Mashed potato mixed with cabbage or kale and fried until golden with a fried egg on top. Perfect.
And the best mashed potato recommendation I heard on here a few months ago - it really makes a difference - is to add some white pepper.

I’ve never had bubble and squeak but might try this tomorrow!

TooBigForMyBoots · 04/10/2022 01:13

Mash all the way. At my wedding the guests had dolphinwars, I had mash.😄

CoralBells · 04/10/2022 09:29

Cheesy Baked potatoes. I'd like to try duchess potatoes
