So the PM has repeatedly lied/made the same mistake all day?

She's done loads of radio today amd it seems she said the se thing in all of them.

“We have taken action by the government stepping in, making sure that nobody is paying fuel bills of more than £2,500.”

This is blatantly wrong. Households who use the average amount of energy will pay £2500. Lots of people will pay more.

Either she deliberately lied to mislead or she doesn't understand her own policy.

Two things:

  • she's done this mulitple times today (and yesterday?) Why didn't someone in her team correct her after the first time?
  • why haven't the radio presenters been challenging her? Or did they and what was her response?

She talks shit constantly, can't work out if it's deliberate or she's just thick.

I think she's thick as shit.

Thought that when the Polish military got annoyed at her keep sprouting off about NATOs movements.

And saying UK citizens should go fight in Ukraine, against our military's advice.

Fcuk38 · 29/09/2022 19:10

This is how they communicated the cap before the queens passing. There was No obvious coins about the unit rate. It was only after the mourning period they started to say it was the unit price. The £2500 is based upon a three bed house with a total ant of useage - can’t remember what that is. But doesn’t even reflect properties epc bands . If your at the lower end of epcs then your defo paying more than £2500 or just not using energy full stop.

BorisJohnsonsHair · 29/09/2022 19:12

There's currently a thread in chat where the OP thinks what the PM said is true. So people do believe it, because that's what she's saying

user6497219 · 29/09/2022 19:14

A lot of people have believed it to be true, the mistake was calling it an energy 'cap' in the first place

roarfeckingroarr · 29/09/2022 19:15

@NoMichaelNo that no one will be on a tariff that charges more then £2500 per year (average use).

I'm no genius and I think that's pretty bloody obvious. The warnings about how high prices could rise were in average figures.

BMW6 · 29/09/2022 19:15

Perhaps Keir Starmer could use PMQ to clarify this and point out that she is misleading the public!

BonesOfWhatYouBelieve · 29/09/2022 19:21

Did none of the local radio journalists pick up on it earlier!??

No, they didn't. In fairness to one of them, there was one interview where she said it correctly once (and then incorrectly in a subsequent answer).

Yep, I was just going to say that Truss was the foreign secretary who said she'd support people from the UK who went to Ukraine to fight, apparently unaware that that would be illegal. I think she's got some quite basic learning to do.

OneFrenchEgg · 29/09/2022 19:24

I heard a couple and she said average or typical. I don't like the woman but she did include reference to that.

balalake · 29/09/2022 19:25

I'm inclined to the unintelligent and forgetful myself.

QuebecBagnet · 29/09/2022 19:33

Boris used to lie and pretend to be a bit thick/daft. I do think Liz is as thick as shit. She quite possibly thinks she’s right. Someone really needs to call her out on shit like this.

GettingItOutThere · 29/09/2022 19:56

and people on here were happy to see the back of BoJo!!

i knew it would be hell when he went, yes he was a complete twat but it is not half as bad as liz

BarbaraofSeville · 29/09/2022 20:15

But despite what the PM, journalists or anyone else who has nothing to do with an energy company says, every single one of us who has signed up to a utility contract is given the information about what a unit costs, what we've used in the past, what our usage is expected to cost, etc etc, so why would anyone take any notice of others in preference to the contract we've signed up to or official information such as that from OFGEM or reliable consumer sights like Moneysaving Expert or Citizens Advice?

We know politicians lie or mislead people. We know the media lies or misleads people. We know people on forums post any old crap. So they can say what they like. No-one in their right mind takes any notice of it, without doing their own research.

Explaintome · 29/09/2022 18:54

But why haven't the radio stations been robustly challenging the obvious lie/error?

I think because they are trying to get her to answer questions about the top rate of tax, and they had about 120 seconds each!

Confused Have you ever met any people? Actual human people?

Some people don't even open their bills. This is not new.

Two wrongs don't make a right, Johnson was a lazy, partying, money-obsessed narcissist.

Explaintome · 29/09/2022 19:08

She'd have to call it!

Or the 1920s select committee can announce a vote of no confidence or the cabinet resign. Either way on the Tory MPs can get rid of her.

Iliveonahill · 29/09/2022 20:25

The lack of understanding is worrying. £2500 divided by 365 days is £6.85 a day. My smart meter is at £4.50 already tonight having used the oven twice and I’ve not yet put the heating on. Prior to all this a few years ago I was paying £90 a month. They think we are fools.

urbanbuddha · 29/09/2022 20:26

Isn't it obvious what she means?

If she says one thing why would it be obvious she means another? Oh hang on, she's a Tory prime minister.

Cantthinkofanewnameatm · 29/09/2022 20:27

Well she’s right that a lot of people won’t be paying £2500 pa for heating —- because they won’t be putting their heating on. With a choice of feeding yourself and your family or having a warm house many will live in cold misery this Autumn and Winter. And some won’t experience the misery of a long cold winter because they’ll die because of the effects of poverty. Do the stories care? Do they fuck.

Cantthinkofanewnameatm · 29/09/2022 20:28

Tories not stories !!!

takliyah · 29/09/2022 20:31

Postapocalypticcowgirl · 29/09/2022 19:05

I reckon journalists don't understand, so can't challenge. And her advisors have no reason to correct her because she is getting away with it.

But I think a lot of households will be in for a shock when future bills come in!

Journalists really don’t understand, I remember Beth Rigby saying that bills would be capped at £2,500. The Times also failed to report it was the unit price that was capped and failed to use the word ‘average.’

Elodie09 · 29/09/2022 20:32

If the Tories get rid of her it is my understanding that there still wouldn't be a requirement to have a GE , it just means yet another Tory leadership contest.
Is that right?
We need to change the rules about calling a GE after this circus, it must not be down to one person , currently Truss , to be the only person able to call an early GE .
68 million people in the UK and 1 person gets to decide? (I realise not all 68 million can vote obvs)

BonesOfWhatYouBelieve · 29/09/2022 20:36

it must not be down to one person , currently Truss , to be the only person able to call an early GE

I think a vote in the house could also call one. But it's unlikely the Tories would vote for that.

goingback · 29/09/2022 20:52

doesn't matter whether she is an idiot or calculating like Boris, there are no consequences for spouting rubbish. We are openly being taken for fools and people will continue to vote for them.

How do you get people to accept their bills being doubled - tell them they are quadrupling then intervene to drop them to double
