Worst TV/Movie deaths

Watching the final destination franchise again and I’m on number 3 where the girls die in the tanning beds.

There are a lot of gory deaths but I always think this is the worst.

I cannot bear to be in a car behind a lorry carrying logs Grin.

And one famous time, me and dh stupidly watched it before going to a theme park the next day. We were shitting bricks before the ride ended and didn’t go on anything else which was fine as we had taken our two young children anyway.

Oh I still can't drive behind a lorry with logs (or scaffolding poles!) because of that film!

Mine are the first girl swimmer at the start of the film in Jaws. Traumatised as a kid watching that!

Game of Thrones - when the Dornish got his head popped

FionnulaTheCooler · 29/09/2022 18:32

Yvonne Atkins in Bad Girls, locked in the old hanging cell by that bastard Fenner and left there to rot. The scratches on the walls really got to me.

And let's not mention the Saw franchise.

Horrendous 😮

I haven’t seen them all yet but I still remember the second one where she’s shoved into a pit of needles

Agree!

At the beginning of the book King talks about how he came up with the idea and it was when he was chasing his toddler son across a field towards a busy road, he managed to catch his dungarees but the idea of "what if" was born 😦

Oh god yeah that book is traumatic, also cujo (book not film) I bought that at the airport when I was about 13 when they gave us a voucher for the plane being delayed.

The mist is notable for having a worse film than book ending lol.

30not13 · 29/09/2022 18:36

Dexter - Rita.... 🥺 have not been able to watch anything with John Lithgow in since 😬

Greys Anatomy - George 🥺

Ringmaster27 · 29/09/2022 18:37

The one that emotionally floored me, was the death of Opie from Sons of Anarchy 🥺
It was totally unexpected - I really thought that on walking into that room, sacrificing himself for his “brothers”, that someone else would step in to save the day, or that the thugs he’d been put in there with would turn on the corrupt prison officers and kill them instead.
But no 😭 The total brutality of it, the fact that Jax had to watch his best friend since childhood be beaten to death through the glass and be powerless to stop it.
And the look on Opie’s face when he knew it was the end totally broke me.
I sobbed and sobbed for what felt like forever. I watched it with my exH, and he paused the episode to wait for me to stop crying!

NightmareSlashDelightful · 29/09/2022 18:37

I can’t take the Final Destination films seriously, the CGI hasn’t aged well at all. Most of the deaths don’t have any impact (in part because they don’t really bother with character development).

Opie in Sons of Anarchy was pretty awful.

Fred in Angel. And Joyce and Tara in Buffy.

Omar in The Wire.

Shane and… the people around Shane in The Shield. (Trying not to spoiler.)

Bill Potts in Doctor Who was pretty awful (although they rushed through it very quickly, which pulled the punch a bit).

lisaJN1986 · 29/09/2022 18:39

King Aelle's death in the Vikings was quite gruesome. So was the scene where Judith has her ear sliced off.

There were some torture/execution scenes in the Tudors that made me wince a bit as well.

Madbadandusuallysad · 29/09/2022 18:42

I came on to say Opie in Sons of Anarchy as well. I really thought he would get out somehow.

PuttingDownRoots · 29/09/2022 18:43

A book I cant remember the name of...

Person died in a hot tub... and wasn't found for several days. They had basically turned to soup....

I read Pet Semetary before having children, there is no way I could read it again now.

And yes, the ending of The Mist, film version. My God! Possibly the bleakest ending to a film, ever.

Needhelp101 · 29/09/2022 18:48

Also, you never see it, but Matilda's little brother's death in Leon. And her going up to Leon's door and pleading for him to open the door. Heartbreaking.

Ringmaster27 · 29/09/2022 18:51

@Madbadandusuallysad I think that was it for me 🥺 I really didn’t think that after the tragedy of losing his wife in such a horrible way, and then struggling as much as he did in the following seasons, that the creators would do him so dirty!
The moment the penny dropped and I realised he was actually going to die, I felt sick and started full on ugly crying

RhubarbFairy · 29/09/2022 18:55

The laser scene in Resident Evil. Absolutely horrifying. Especially the last one. Just a moment too late! Why did he stand so far forward?!

idontsellwaxmelts · 29/09/2022 19:02

Opie 💔💔

HauntersGonnaHaunt · 29/09/2022 19:07

There's a scene in "The Road" book that will never leave you. 🤢

Going to go and see if the opening scene of "Ghost Ship" is on YouTube. I'm intrigued.

WingBingo · 29/09/2022 19:16

Sure is @HauntersGonnaHaunt

that moment before they hit the deck

Brieeeeeeeee · 29/09/2022 19:25

Another one here who hates following log lorries 😅

PaniniHead · 29/09/2022 19:26

Any episode of Bones, all very gory.

bookworm14 · 29/09/2022 19:31

Surprised no one has mentioned Sarah Barnes’s death by faulty parachute in Hollyoaks. Her screams still haunt me!

The Spooks deep fat fryer is brutal. Joyce’s death in Buffy is so effective because it’s portrayed entirely realistically in a series that’s otherwise full of over the top, cartoonish deaths.

SkiingIsHeaven · 29/09/2022 19:32

What about the arm wrestling bit in the fly!!! Yuk.

Greys Anatomy - George 🥺

I had to stop watching after Rita died, my stomach just sunk to think of it.

agree about John Lithgow, my first recollection of him was bumbling alien professor in 3rd rock from the sun and I couldn’t picture him as anything other than nice.

WestendVBroadway · 29/09/2022 19:40

Can't remember the name of this film, but was about 30 years ago and it was about a nuclear bomb going off. Being old the special effects were rather non existent naff. When the bomb went off it showed people, who then turned into a negative image of skeletons, which in turn sort of disintegrated . Spooked the Be Jesus out of me.

dreakdays · 29/09/2022 19:41

The girl in the Red Coat, in the film Schindler's List.

You see her walking the streets, a tiny little thing.

Next time you see her, she's dead. Her body is being wheeled amongst a heap of others into a huge pit for disposal Sad

The tanning death in final destination is awful OP. I'm a sun bed user and won't tan laying down because of it!

Wearegoingtoneedabiggerboat · 29/09/2022 19:44

The first shark attack in jaws,
Laura’s cousin being murdered by bob in twin peaks,
not watched game of thrones but DP was watching an episode when I walked into the room and it was where one of the characters allowed his daughter to be burnt alive. DP said that that never happened in the book so why they had to do that, it was horrific.
