@MrsTumblebee I was named after Ryan O’Neil’s girlfriend in Peyton Place because my Mum loved it. I’ve only ever seen clips but I loved the books.

Hopefullysoon2022 · 28/09/2022 14:02

Anyone remember the Sullivan's.
It had Vivien Gray as Mrs Jessop.
Who later went on to play Mrs Mangle

oldstudentmum · 28/09/2022 14:10

I loved the older soaps dynasty was brill but it was Joan Collins that made it awesome. Sons and daughters as someone above mentioned was so cool I was addicted.

Hopefullysoon2022 · 28/09/2022 14:13

I loved Crystal and Alexis.
That fight was great, they really went for it.
And I fancied Dex something rotten.

KillingMeDeftly · 28/09/2022 14:18

The new Dynasty is quite fun too and has lots of lovely clothes to drool over!

Sleeptightnightlight · 28/09/2022 14:21

I have never watched a moment of this show and yet knew exactly what you were talking about as the storyline is that notorious!

Surtsey · 28/09/2022 14:21

I'd have shot JR given half a chance - he was a swine.

LearnerCook · 28/09/2022 14:32

I LOVED Dallas but it did go a bit daft towards the end.

AutumnCrow · 28/09/2022 14:45

AllThatHoopla · 28/09/2022 08:10

Yes, all the storylines were abandoned so it was really hard to get back into it. I seem to remember Ray was about to adopt a little boy. Then he was just gone. And wasn't Pam married to someone else? Confused

So did Ray ever end up not being Lucy's uncle, which was a bit ewwww given he'd been rolling in the hay with her at the start of the series?

Yes. Great theme music.

@Trinity65 yes Albion Market was starting to grow on me as well!!
I was a SAHM when some of these programmes were showing , Sons and daughters, Families, Shortland Street!!
When my son was about 2/3years old, he used to sing all the theme tunes😍🤣🤣

Oh Yes, Sons and Daughters. Loved that, but I think for the theme song more than the series.
I went to Manchester in 2015 (from London) and was taking phots and somebody told me that the photo I was taking was once used as the set for Albion Market.
I will try to find said photo.

Essential afternoon viewing:
Take the High Road - Intrigue in the Highlands over who stole the shortbread.
There was an Aussie one about vets. They had a resident possum.
Crown Court.

A Country Practice! Used to love that when I was a student. Two blonde vets and the possum.

KimberleyClark · 28/09/2022 16:04

Barrier Reef, about Australian divers doing salvage work.

BitossiBlues · 28/09/2022 17:49

A Country Practice!

Yes! Thank you @AutumnCrow

Sons & Daughters had the deliciously evil Pat the Rat. Who came back as a different actress half way through the run. I saw a sad interview with the original Pat, who was extremely popular star when she left in the hope of a bigger career. It never happened. Taking things full circle back to Patrick Duffy. Unfortunately, no return for Pat #1, the part had been recast, with a plastic surgery change of face storyline. Pat #2 was never as good as the original.

Completely agree
I was just getting into Eldorado when WHAM. It was no more.
It was the same with Albion Market.

Yes it was a shame about Eldorado ,
I only have the vaguest memory of Albion market ,how long was it on for ?

Is it a name beginning with C with a much more common varant ?
If so my sil also had the same name for the same reason.

I’d really got into Eldorado by the end. If it had kept going, I honestly think the moment we discovered Paco’s true identity would
have become the stuff of soap legend!

TheBoxOfWhat · 28/09/2022 18:45

@BitossiBlues oh yes Cagney and Lacey, loved the two feisty female cops. Also just reminded me of Dempsey and Makepeace. Loved Knotts Landing too.

I think because we only had 3 tv channels everyone was watching the same stuff and we all talked about it. I distinctly remember watching the film A Man Called Horse and everyone was talking about it in school the next day mainly because of his initiation ceremony that looked incredibly painful.

Even adverts, we can all sing adverts because we had no choice but to watch them. We have shown the children loads of 80s adverts, "Daddy or chips" or "Charles is in the living room looking for my chocolate orange, but it is quite safe" we have chocolate oranges every Christmas.

Twoscotcheggsandajarofmarmite · 28/09/2022 23:14

@MrsTumblebee no, it would appear that Ryan was a bit of a lad. My name begins with R 🤣

You can get 'Soap' on DVD.

mrsjg · 29/09/2022 07:22

I thought living at Southfork looked so glamorous, they could eat breakfast outside!

BitossiBlues · 29/09/2022 07:51

Soap was bloody brilliant! What was the opening blurb? "This is the tale of two sisters, Jessica Tate and Mary Campbell" or something like that. Did anyone watch Benson? That was a spin off of Soap, I think. I think the governor for whom Benson was butler was the sibling of the Soap sisters.
