Monthly?

Just had ours with two weeks of the hot tub (currently switched off) and a normal 5 bed room house use.

Electric £114.07
Gas : £27.04

It our last bill without the solar panels so looking forward to even less this month.

Am I right in thinking the proposed increase for October is not happening now the govt have capped it? I'm confused

BloodyHellKen · 27/09/2022 21:22

£200 pm with £400 in credit. We live in a large draughty old house though and also heat with fires and a woodburner.

loveireland · 27/09/2022 21:24

Use about £20 gas and about £55 electricity at the moment Expecting gas usage to double soon.

lobsterkiller · 27/09/2022 21:26

I'm up to date with bills. My August bill was £51 for both gas and electric. I pay £100 a month dual fuel and I'm in credit by £370.

There is an increase but not as big an increase than originally proposed

My October price will be;

Electricity 33.763p/kwh and 49.021p standing charge ( is currently 27.84p/kwh and 49.38p s/c)

Gas 10.277p/kwh and 26.841p standing charge (currently 7.33p/kwh and 27.22p s/c)

bawsy · 27/09/2022 21:27

Going up from £234 a month to £240 in October (including rebate).

Currently using around £120 a month according to our smart meter, we are £500 in credit at the moment

EncroachingLoaf · 27/09/2022 21:27

My DD for both has been £130ish over recent months, they've just notified me they will be reducing it to £95 pm from Oct. That includes the Government support. It's been worrying me for months so to say I'm fucking relieved is an understatement.

somebody2lava · 27/09/2022 21:34

We've made huge energy cutbacks and one kid has just gone to university so that's dropped our usage. I've just been notified that from End of October my electric costs are predicted to be £167 a month and gas is £133. I can just about do it. JUST. But if food goes up much more it's going to be very tough.

AlwaysLatte · 27/09/2022 21:35

Our smart meter is showing around £10 a day for electric (including electric car but not including heating or hot water). Additional £2500 for oil recently which we hope will last a year. So current annual energy cost around £6000 or so. Hoping the costs come down soon!

AlwaysLatte · 27/09/2022 21:36

Oh sorry monthly, so around £500 a month.

NancyVicious · 27/09/2022 21:38

Usually pay £96 but dd has been reduced to £24 with the reduction and because we'd not been using as much as predicted. Obviously no heating on yet though

I am honestly baffled by some of the higher figures. We live in a smaller older house and don’t ration energy and last year I never paid more than £200 a month for actual usage even in the depths of winter. This year we are being more conservative with our usage but not to the extreme. We have insulated the loft, and the house had cavity wall insulation before we bought it. We have double glazing throughout and carpets and thick underlay upstairs and hard floor with rugs downstairs. Newer appliances and boiler, LED bulbs, no tumble drier, 1 TV, 1 laptop. 2 adults shower everyday and the toddler has a shallow bath. Normally turn the heating on mid October, it’s currently 18 degrees in the house without heating.

Add two young adults, another child, a couple more fridges and a hot tub et voilà!

slo · 27/09/2022 21:52

Ovo won't reduce my direct debit. My usage is approx £40 a month, on the standard rate with no deal, and the direct debit is now gone up again to £160. I am over £800 in credit. It is absolutely ridiculous.

InSpaceNooneCanHearYouScream · 27/09/2022 23:52

I think one thing confusing the issue is some posters are just giving figures for what energy they have used in the last month- which is totally pointless and not representative of the whole year. My DD is set to £312 per month to account for the winter months, of course. Obviously I haven't used that much during the summer when the heating hasn't been on at all and the lights hardly on and no tumble drier use.

MintJulia · 27/09/2022 23:57

@slo call the OVO helpline and ask for a refund. email it in writing as well. If they refuse, then report your case to the Ombudsman, who will insist they agree a more reasonable DD.

QuietNeighbour · 29/09/2022 09:39

We’ve reduced our consumption by taking most of our showers at the gym. My membership is discounted through work. If it’s paid for anyway and we are working out there anyway it’s a little cost saving that adds up
