It's like the mumsnet chicken- I've managed to get my energy bills down to £2.50 per year! Smile

Because many of us can’t afford to put it on! The cost is standing charge and cooking a hot meal once a day and shower every 3rd day. Does that help.

AltheaVestr1t · 27/09/2022 19:12

£374 for combined energy, based on totally spurious estimated annual energy usage figures. I'm in credit, with a monthly usage (smart meters) of £100 (summer) - £260 (winter) and they want me to put my DD up to £515...

PleaseGoDontGoAgain · 27/09/2022 19:28

I've just moved into a 3 bed terrace and British gas have offered me a tariff at £295 monthly.
I'm currently stuck with them as previous tenant had prepayment meters and they need to be switched.
I was paying 120 for a large 2 bed semi and after reading this thread I need to start asking BG some questions about that tariff!

KatnissNeverdone · 27/09/2022 19:28

£260 for gas and electric combined. I'm £400 in credit. 2 adults, 1 teen and 1 child. DS is disabled so we always have some form of equipment on charge and do a lot of washing. Eon has "recommended" a monthly payment of £356 based on their estimates of our winter usage.

WalkingOnSonshine · 27/09/2022 19:31

£70 pm, 4 bed detached house, family of 3. Fixed in August.

WalkingOnSonshine · 27/09/2022 19:33

Tell a lie, just checked DH’s DD and it’s now £85.

PollyEsther · 27/09/2022 19:42

£260 pcm through winter, before the discount. Discount obviously bringing that down to £100pcm. Over the summer we pretty much only pay standing charges due to solar panels and only using gas for hot water. South coast so at least 6 months a year with no heating on at all.

PollyEsther · 27/09/2022 19:42

^^ FGS. Bringing it down to £200pcm combined, not £100.

Lochjeda · 27/09/2022 19:46

We have used 14 pounds of gas and 56 electricity so far this month. We are prepay. Four bed house. Five of us here. Dont have a dishwasher or tumble dryer. Maybe have one at most two tvs on a night, often none.

ShootingForTheMoonLandingOnMyArse · 27/09/2022 19:48

Were paying £210 combined fixed until last month. The tariff they offered was £523 from August so I cancelled DD and did pay as you go.

Last month was £87. This month is £192. I thought prices didn't increase until next month! No additional usage or heating out on. In fact the biggest hot water user (DD) was away for 2 weeks during that bill.

bloodywhitecat · 27/09/2022 19:49

August's electricity bill was £68.78, oil usage was minimal, old house, thick walls but poorly insulated (the wind comes up through the gaps in the floorboards, no double glazing). The electricity bill will go up a bit but the oil usage will go up quite a lot. I am going to try to make the 1000l in the tank last until spring.

ofwarren · 27/09/2022 19:55

Just received a bill today for £114.
I used approx 10kwh of electricity a day last month and 3kwh of gas.
I don't pay by DD, I just pay the bill when I get it.
3 bed house, 2 adults, 2 kids.

Sh05 · 27/09/2022 19:58

Paying £154 atm but have been warned I should increase it to atleast £199 to not fall into debt. I'm hesitant though because my account is in credit by just under £300 and growing monthly.
4 bed terrace in the north west. 7 people in the family

YanTanTetheraPetheraPimp · 27/09/2022 20:02

Just had a bill, £85.
DD £140/month, £345 in credit so I have a buffer which suits me. We’re retired, in most days, semi detached 3 bed house.

LynetteScavo · 27/09/2022 20:07

£209 next month (with the £66 applied) . I've just had a bill today- it's been £279 since July, so we're in credit atm. Even my teenage DS has been coming in to the living room when I'm watching TV and turning the light off, saying "there's and energy crisis, don't you know!" I did catch his GF tumble drying 2 socks though

LynetteScavo · 27/09/2022 20:10

That includes DH WFH from his shed garden office. This year I think he'll be moving I to the living room, even though he says it's not healthy for his mind.

glassdarker · 27/09/2022 20:23

Wow. We're at £360, about 500 in credit and supplier has therefore said we don't need to put it up. Smart meter is about £5-£8 per day depending on level of washing. Four bed end of terrace, modernist house. No heating on as yet.

ChilliBandit · 27/09/2022 20:39

I am honestly baffled by some of the higher figures. We live in a smaller older house and don’t ration energy and last year I never paid more than £200 a month for actual usage even in the depths of winter. This year we are being more conservative with our usage but not to the extreme. We have insulated the loft, and the house had cavity wall insulation before we bought it. We have double glazing throughout and carpets and thick underlay upstairs and hard floor with rugs downstairs. Newer appliances and boiler, LED bulbs, no tumble drier, 1 TV, 1 laptop. 2 adults shower everyday and the toddler has a shallow bath. Normally turn the heating on mid October, it’s currently 18 degrees in the house without heating.

ChilliBandit · 27/09/2022 20:40

My smart meter is currently at £1.86 for the day!

Gatekeeper · 27/09/2022 20:45

DDis £135 a month, actual usage is around £85 electric and £16 gas..3 bed 1930s semi with 3 adults

LER83 · 27/09/2022 20:48

£236 (not fixed) dd for both monthly, although recently had an email to say standing charges are going up again! We aren't in credit so guessing we use that much! This is for a 3 bed semi.

Sumlove · 27/09/2022 20:54

£165, 2 bed - 1 adult and child. I do charge my electric car though, think it would be about £100 without.

MrAutumnal · 27/09/2022 21:05

Averaging about £4-£4.5 a day combined G&E but without heating on. That’s gas hot water for showers and taps, 1 x dishwasher, 1 x washing machine, cooker/job as needed, 2 x WFH laptops and usual TV and lighting. Think it’s £135 p/m on flexible rate. 4 bed house.

This is before the Oct rise and without the central heating on.

MrAutumnal · 27/09/2022 21:07

Just to add I only use the eco setting on dishwasher and washing machine now except when something really needs a hot wash. Makes a big difference.

MushMonster · 27/09/2022 21:10

Ours is around £120 combined bill.
We used to be £92 DD.
Now we are on the variable because the rates they offered to get the new fixed contract are ridiculous.
