Because it doesn’t suit her purposes. Apparently she’s infamous with the civil service for removing evidence from reports because it was inconvenient for her arguement.

the80sweregreat · 29/09/2022 11:56

Every-time I hear her voice I just feel so full of rage I can't actually think straight
I didn't like Boris Johnson that much, but it was nothing on this level. I can't explain how much she just winds me up
She hasnt any empathy , blames everyone else and refuses to mention the extra borrowing needs for these tax breaks
Just the amount for the energy companies, which we already knew about anyway and was fudged ( to help the share holders)
This a fiscal event for the rich. Nothing else
She won't listen to anyone either it seems
A total autocrat.
I'm hoping they have it right and it won't be as bad as predicted. I'm trying to stay positive.

the80sweregreat · 29/09/2022 12:11

Seems that benefits will be cut ( or not increased , which is the same thing ) next year I just heard : maybe this and the extra borrowing might be brought up to Ms Truss. I'm not holding my breath though
I bet she gets an easy ride at the conference this weekend as well.

My son was at a recent function with someone who has worked with her in the past. Apparently she just doesn't believe any facts that don't fit with her ideas.

the80sweregreat · 29/09/2022 12:15

They should have the facts on a loop then call her out on it all . All I've heard are interviewers letting her get away with it. It's making my blood boil to be honest , what about the extra borrowing ?
She is making it sound as if it's all about the energy borrowing isn't she ?
Smoke and mirrors

I've had that from the horses mouth too and it's the most Brexit thing I've ever heard of.

The NZ trade deal is a nonsensical failure that actually loses our country money rather than making any, destroys jobs, is terrible for the environment, makes as much sense as going to the supermarket in Inverness when you live in Bournemouth, and will probably destroy British farming but is trumpeted somehow as "a success"

If you are a housing developer looking to buy ex farm land at knock down prices it probably is, but for our country it is not.

Brexit loving Conservative Party members apparently support Liz Truss because she gives them good news about Brexit which in reality is just bad news all round, so that they can feel better about the downward trajectory Brexit has set our country on.

I honestly had no idea prior to Brexit how many people would rather be told bullshit they like than engage with a reality they don't.

🏡 Mortgage market - fully 40% of products now taken off the market since the ‘mini budget’

📉 Further 321 products withdrawn overnight

📉 On top of a record 935 withdrawn day before

So in just 6 days since Chancellor spoke:

📉 1,621 products withdrawn-leaving 2,340 on sale

All she is doing is blaming Putin
His the fall guy here
It's actually sickening tbh

There is a thread in chat advising people that all will be fine if they just stop following the news

tobee · 29/09/2022 12:32

On those local radio linked tweets someone asked who on earth is advising her? And I would answer "maniacs". I don't think that's hyperbole.

AchillesLastStand · 29/09/2022 12:32

I’ve moved over to this thread for my sanity, far too many heads in the sand. Truss and Kwarteng have no electoral mandate for the policies they’re implementing. They’re running a banana republic and we’re just sitting back and taking it. I’ve never felt so depressed about the future of the country, not even after Brexit.

the80sweregreat · 29/09/2022 12:34

This is the only thread where I can vent!
I'm not an economist, but I can see this is all shit. I can't just stay positive, it's all too ridiculous for words.

I’ve just moved over from that thread for my sanity. Too many ‘the 70s were much worse’ comments coming from people with zero understanding of economics or politics. They have no idea of the gravity of the situation.

the80sweregreat · 29/09/2022 12:36

There were not that many home owners in the 70s as there are now.
All this harking back isn't helping now is it ?
The alright Jack people live near me.
They will be , they have absolutely no empathy for anyone. Truss supporters.

DuncinToffee · 29/09/2022 12:39

It's like the energy threads where people are being told not to moan because they survived without CH.

And on a morgage thread is was blamed on mobile phones

A race to the bottom.

Notonthestairs · 29/09/2022 12:40

6% interest rates'd be nothing they used to be 14%!" True. Yet the worry'd be the relative change - people coming off fixes could face new rates 7X higher

House price inflation & policy pushes from all parties to home ownership, mean far higher mortgage debts related to income.

twitter.com/martinslewis/status/1575393732282781696?s=46&t=2njNuCaF6nCrnF0d59f8bA

How can anyone suggest this is beneficial to the economy?

Fladdermus · 29/09/2022 12:41

We went into the 70s from a position of 20 years of post war boom. We're going into this shitshorm from a position of a decade of austerity. We don't have the reserves to ride out the storm this time.

Anything but admit it's complete and utter economic mismanagement from the people in charge.

I survived without central heating. That's why I'm horrified at the prospect of going back there, it was bloody miserable. Besides which, we're not prepared this time round. When I was a kid we had thermal underwear, thick woolen blankets, thick socks knitted by grandma, and endless supply of really cold weather clothing. I don't know about anyone but I don't have any of that now and if people can't afford to put the heating on they also won't be able to afford to stock up on thermals.

Exactly.
I remember the stress of being a child at the 15% rates, parents clearly extremely scared they would lose everything, no food, no clothes that fit, chilblains etc.

Why the fuck are we being told that was ok and we should just suck it up? It was awful.

I really don't get this harking back to the past at all

the80sweregreat · 29/09/2022 13:03

Some man was on bbc two just now ( politics live ) just now going on about Gordon Brown and his gold reserve sell off. Fair enough
He declined to mention that Rishi Sunak did a similar thing back in May , he lost 900 billion or something eye watering. That was lost in the news around party gate.
The Labour Party lady was good, but she didn't really bang him to rights over so much of his narrative. He was allowed to almost write off 12 years of conservative rule.

Well we are going to have to write off 12 or more years of Conservative rule.

Notonthestairs · 29/09/2022 13:31

It's going to be 14 years.

I can't see them going for an election. There won't be a bounce.

We are stuck with them.

Notonthestairs · 29/09/2022 13:37

Here are the CCHQ lines for Tory MPs amid ongoing financial turmoil

They’re told to insist government plans are “responsible” and stress that other counties face disruption

One subheading says gov is “committed to responsible economic management”

twitter.com/adampayne26/status/1575459881301278721?s=46&t=2njNuCaF6nCrnF0d59f8bA

Makes no mention of mortgage rates...

the80sweregreat · 29/09/2022 13:39

I can't see anyone calling for a General election either. She would win a vote of no confidence easily. They know it's a death knell otherwise.
The conservatives will all pat themselves on their backs this weekend and people might start defending them on the tv. A few have been up already. They will just blame market forces and the war and covid and dazzle the truly faithful
The extra borrowing they are doing will be air brushed away as a necessary evil.
