What things do you love that your family and friends don't understand?

I've recently rediscovered the Pro Wrestling of my childhood. It was huge when I was growing up and I get nostalgic when watching old matches.

Also museums, any museum regardless of subject and delis. I'm always looking for something new to try. I can't walk past a deli or Chinese/Japanese/Turkish etc store.

There are others too but I'll have to think about them.

No judgement because there are plenty of things they love that don't appeal to me but is there anything you love that puzzles your family or friends?

CrossFit. I train 6 days a week, sometimes twice a day (and sometimes 7 days although I usually force myself to take a day off). My CF friends get it but family, colleagues and other friends really don't.

Rats . Pet fancy rats . I live alone now so am getting 3 more .

My daughter says I'm wasting my money on "things I don't need "

But I had 9 rats before and yes I was living with dd and dh then and they didn't like them but i loved them - I really did . When my oldest boy died I cried and cried . He was my baby . So now im getting more because they make me happy . And no one gets my love for them .

CrossFit was my sport until Ill health meant I had to give it up aged 61 after starting it when I was a very unfit and overweight 55 year old. I used to even do the CrossFit masters with my PT a few days after the live competition just to see if I could. Thankfully they’re are a few cross fitters in the family and I’m in my element when going to see them in throw downs and the open. The atmosphere is fabulous. It makes me feel alive. Thankfully my CrossFit PT still trains me, albeit in a very different way to accommodate my health issues and I’m happy with what I have and can do.

@bluetongue wales has the most amazing castles.

You can do it on public transport but you will need to choose between north and South Wales, getting between them without a car is seriously hard work.

If you go south, try to take in tintern abbey as well, it's a manageable hike from the nearest town and you can bus out and hike back.

Will need to remember for a future visit. My schedule won’t work for Wales this trip. Plus I’ll be there in January so not the best time of the year for such things (although Stonehenge on a grey, misty day was fabulous and hardly anyone else there ).

If there’s another day trip from London I could do it would be great. Doesn’t even have to be a castle, just somewhere historic.

Strictly Come Dancing!

To be fair, they may have had an overkill of it!

However, to annoy them even further, I've now downloaded the Strictly theme tune as my phone ring tone Grin

Aria999 · 21/09/2022 02:58

@bluetongue have you been to Oxford?

Mothership4two · 21/09/2022 03:01

There is a theory that Beatrix Potter got the names for some of her characters from a graveyard near to where she grew up I think

That's aimed at @NanaNelly @rejectedprincess

Thank you 😊

I know that area well. I used to holiday there every year as a child and it’s where we still go as a family on the last night of a summer holiday in Scotland for Fish and Chips that we eat by the side of the river.

Vampirethriller · 21/09/2022 06:07

Soviet bus stops (Instagram is great)

Victorian food/Mrs Beeton

Zombies. My family are all Marvel or reality TV, except my mother, who only watches the news, and they think I'm some kind of sociopath for liking horror.

I've got a lot more.

ItsnotaHenryMoore · 21/09/2022 06:29

Family history, regularly bore the pants off people that don't care. Love it when a similarly obsessed new 3rd cousin pops up with photos of a common ancestor.

I've recently become very keen on textiles, blankets in particular. I've recently purchased from this place and its one of my favourite things ever. When my DM asks me how much it cost I have to change the subject. She would have a fit.

ItsnotaHenryMoore · 21/09/2022 06:30

store.melintregwynt.co.uk/throw-blankets.html this place!

Chocchops72 · 21/09/2022 06:30

The Walking Dead. I’m on my third watching off the whole thing. My 14 year old would probably like it but I won’t let him watch it yet. DH and DS2 are actively repelled by it (don’t like gore). None of my friends or family like it or understand why I might be interested.

I just find it fascinating: how would you live, what rules would you live by if everything - everything - was just swept away? What kinds of communities would form and how would they decide what is ‘right’ and what is ‘wrong’? The zombies very quickly become just another environmental hazard, it’s the people you have to be wary of. Just fascinating.
