What things do you love that your family and friends don't understand?

I've recently rediscovered the Pro Wrestling of my childhood. It was huge when I was growing up and I get nostalgic when watching old matches.

Also museums, any museum regardless of subject and delis. I'm always looking for something new to try. I can't walk past a deli or Chinese/Japanese/Turkish etc store.

There are others too but I'll have to think about them.

No judgement because there are plenty of things they love that don't appeal to me but is there anything you love that puzzles your family or friends?

ASMR videos. I was watching one and Dd asked what I was doing "I'm watching a Russian woman ironing while she whispers at me" I said. Bafflement doesn't cover it.

All Bran

I don't know a single person that likes it.

Literally eating a bowl of All Bran now - it’s my evening treat 😀

JohnsShirt · 20/09/2022 20:48

Reality TV, particularly the shows on Discovery+
Boybands, seen/seeing four this year, one of them twice, plus three former members.
Harry Styles, I'm obsessed.

Watching my washing blowing in the wind on my line. Watching the washing machine and tumble dryer going round. I've always thought im autistic.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 20/09/2022 20:58

Watching Disney World Vloggers. Disney World is my happy place, watching vlogs is my escape.

Family history research. I've gone back to 1700s in some places. I speak to distant cousins I've traced all over the world.
My immediate family couldnt care less and don't even show an interest in their relatives that are alive now.

I watch Disney food flogs, even though I've never been and don't plan to go, ditto cruise food.

Doing and going to car boot sales

Plants. You wouldn’t think gardening is a niche hobby but I know very few people whose interest extends further than ’that plant in the garden centre looks pretty, can I grow it without killing it?’
Whereas I’ll spend ages browsing websites looking for just the right plant for a pot on my balcony, I’ll want to know the Latin names of random interesting plants so I can get acquainted with them, and whenever I visit someone who has a garden but hasn’t bothered to plant it up, I start designing what I would put in it (only in my head!)

Punk rock, just a 45 year phase 😁

ElizabethBest · 20/09/2022 22:06

@definitelynotlistening I LOVE hymns. Particularly weird as I’m an atheist but I do!

Foraging or identifying wild plants, trees, flowers, mushrooms etc. I'm always coming home from my walks with pockets full of leaves, twigs and rocks. I love trying to find clues about the general landscape and how it came to be the way it is.

History. Interesting historical details about anything really, I have to read ALL the info at museums and period properties and then I have loads of (I think) fascinating things that I want to share with my family and they are not remotely interested. I just don't get it. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Football, nobody in my house gets it but on weekends I can’t think about anything else. I support a championship team in the northeast and for me it’s like a religion!

Same for me. I love it! My family and friends tolerate it and humour me, but really don’t get it!

Crucible · 20/09/2022 22:12

@Spinstdu I bloody love all bran. I put extra pure bran in the milk.

ElizabethBest · 20/09/2022 22:14
  • Reading history entries on Wikipedia. Especially early female royals. Not fussed about the country as long as there’s an interesting back story! Also, royal scandals. (The mayerling incident is a great example if anyone is looking for a read!)
  • True crime vlogs on YouTube.
  • medical documentaries. My DH thinks this one is extra weird as I work for the NHS as my day job. The thing is, we see a snapshot of our patients but we nearly never get the outcome so this is a guaranteed patient outcome fix.
  • Traipsing around castles, ruins, stately homes.
  • rereading my old favourite children’s books

Don't understand it or mock it (my children mostly)

tinofbeans · 20/09/2022 22:18

Wild camping, but mostly wild camping on my own. My friends don't understand why I'm not scared to be out 🤷‍♀️

I love the peace and not being at anyone else's beck and call

Hibye23289 · 20/09/2022 22:18
