Harry - regretful?

Brasschamberstick · 20/09/2022 10:40

Do we think after seeing the magnificence of yesterday that he is regretting giving it all up?

He looks so angry and unhappy all the time now?

@BlodynGwyn I'm sure you know George V had 2 tattoos, a dragon on one arm and a tiger on the other, done in Japan.

Source? His own handwritten and archived diary. He was only 16 when he had them done, too.

Pengwinn · 20/09/2022 18:45

I don't know why generally people assume meghan is behind everything. Harry was vocal long before meeting her about hating the media here and actually said at least once, possibly more, that he wasn't a huge fan of it here. He's a grown man and personally I don't think there's anything to suggest he's being coerced by her or anything.

I think everyone was grief stricken yesterday and this constant assessment of everyone's behaviour, looking for slights, doesn't help anyone.

H&M need to head home, work hard, and stop attacking the RF. They have what they want, freedom, so off they should fly to the US and live the lives they want. The constant complaining and victimhood needs to stop - for their good, as much as anyone else.

I don’t actually think they would complain and play the victim constantly if they were genuinely happy. The fact they can’t be content with what they have says a lot.

Indeed. He's never kept it a secret that he is unhappy with the "lot he was given" he's always longed to just be "normal" when he joined the army he enjoyed being just a young officer in the ranks and doing his military career.

It's a shame that came to an end for him. 🙁

WimpoleHat · 20/09/2022 18:59

he's always longed to just be "normal"

And he could have had a go at that….were that what he really wanted. The Duchess of Kent did it; not as high profile, admittedly, but with the full support of the Queen, she gave up all Royal duties and became a piano teacher. Kids called her Mrs Kent and she managed to live a pretty normal life. They had money enough; they could’ve moved abroad, let the media die down and get bored and have a relatively private life. But they wanted to monetise their position and make $$$ from Netflix. Hardly the actions of someone who genuinely craves “normality”…..

Meili04 · 20/09/2022 19:03

He looks miserable in California and he looks miserable here. He always used to smile I hope he's getting help it can't be healthy feeling like that.

Bloody hell, this thread is vile.

So many posters on here need help. How can you be so hateful about 2 people you’ve never met, who you know absolutely nothing about and whose lives you only see a snippet of. I’m so glad I know none of you personally.

Totally agree.

Everyone looked somber or downright miserable

how are words like this appropriate to describe the day of a loved one's funeral. I'm sure those who've said these words would soon whinge if it was their family funeral and someone accused them of being somber or downright miserable. But seemingly because it's someone else and not them, they're fine about it.

PaperTyger · 20/09/2022 19:06

I don't think he will be regretful at all, it's a gold fish bowl.

However as is his birth right his children should know Charles and England and every thing here that is is their right.

BruhWhy · 20/09/2022 19:17

If I were him or his wife I'd get on a plane and never return, people here have been vile to them both.

He's publicly stated that she helped him face his trauma from his mother dying so suddenly and violently as a small child, something he'd never come close to doing before meeting her.

Imagine bottling it all up for years, surrounded by the same people who hated your mother and who, sources say, refused to do anything to prevent the circumstances that ultimately brought about her death.

Imagine then meeting someone who recognises this grief and trauma and helps you begin to come to terms with it, only then to have the same people who hated your dead mother, your own family, come right out and say they won't protect her when the same thing that happened to your mother begins happening to her - she was suicidal and they were like 🤷🏻‍♀️

I'd emigrate too.

BitossiBlues · 20/09/2022 19:18

@daisychain01 I think it's completely appropriate, since these are appropriate reactions at the funeral of a greatly loved relative. Everyone at my mother's, my father's and my FIL's were either somber or in bits. The accusation is that Meghan was being snubbed, in particular by Sophie, because nobody was talking to her. My response is that nobody was talking to anybody, and they were all in their own worlds of grief - not there to make MM feel comfortable.

PaperTyger · 20/09/2022 19:41

Bruwhy

Totally agree.

If fhis was aibu my family...it would be no contact.

Yesthatismychildsigh · 20/09/2022 20:20

BlodwynGodwyn. You sound revolting. Even if there was something wrong with her mother, she’s infinitely preferable to someone so small minded and poisonous. I hope your kids don’t fall foul of someone like you. I bet you’d be the first to scream.

Mumofsend · 20/09/2022 20:22

He never forgave the press for his mum, he's been here 2 weeks and it has been incessant again.

However, it would be natural to be devastated that not wanting to be part of the role he was born into has essentially estranged him from his family. It is brutal.

TrashyPanda · 20/09/2022 20:26

England? really?

the rest of the UK is unimportant then?

Lindy2 · 20/09/2022 20:35

I didn't see anyone chatting yesterday. I saw lots of quiet sad faces. Really rather understandable.

Prior to the funeral I saw Charles wish them well and William invite them to join him and Kate on the Windsor walkabout. Meghan was mostly greeted politely by the crowds, if not particularly warmly - she probably didn't like that but really it was to be expected.

There are quite a number of royals that lead fairly private, normal(ish) lives. They could do that if they wanted to - it's their actions that deliberately keep themselves in the limelight. I think a lot of people would prefer them to actually live the quiet life they claim they want to.

Sky news reporting an even lower figure. You will probably only believe it if its in the daily mail.

I couldn't care less about the figures. The National is totally unbiased Grin

RainbowZebraWarrior · 20/09/2022 21:23

Wouldn't usually comment on a thread about Harry and Meghan, however in the vein of the recent outpouring of love of Her Majesty, I'd like to add this.

I hope King Charles and the new Prince of Wales do heal their rift with Harry. (As my 10 year old daughter is emotionally mature enough to observe "life is too short")

I also hope that the female members of the Royal Family can be given a break from being picked apart and blamed for said rifts. I'm sure our Late Queen would be sad about this (as I'm sure she was while she was alive)

Familes of all classes fall out for all sorts of reasons. Again, I've always gone by my daughters adage of Life is too short and Never go to sleep on an argument.

In the end, it comes down to putting your own pride aside, and Turning The Other Cheek (for want of a more modern term, but one Her Late Majesty I think lived her life by - as Head of The Church of England)

I would also add that I think all of the Royals did marvellously in the scrutiny of the public eye in the last 10 or 11 days.

My last observation is that Meghan seemed to be nursing her stomach in the last week or so. Wouldn't be surprised if there is a pregnancy announcement very soon. And that would be a wonderful and positive thing. If I'm wrong, then I apologise, but positive news would be very welcome all round, I feel.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 20/09/2022 21:32

I’d hope he’s looking miserable because of all the grief he put a very old grandmother through shortly before she died.
Though whether he’s actually feeling any remorse I wouldn’t like to say.

Lalalolol · 20/09/2022 21:38

antelopevalley · 20/09/2022 13:11

If the family can't even be polite to her, why the hell would they come back?

You mean it's okay to judge Sophie, whose grandmother died. Why should she chat with Meghan in the car, it's not a social event. There were pictures of Camila and Kate in car together and there was stony silence too.

Also, why is it expected of family to be friendly to them, when Meghan's interview in NYT was published recently? Same posters defending H&M are happy be to criticise W&K. Press is totally out of order for their scrutiny of H&M but it's also not ok for posters supporting Meghan to speculate that Kate has another hidden side, otherwise it's hypocritical

Aspiringmatriarch · 20/09/2022 17:35

I think this is probably true - pretty cruel way to treat family members at a funeral though.

What do you think Sophie should have chatted with them? About weather, life in California or fashion?
Same can be said about Meghan, after all it was Sophie who was closer to queen as she was her grandmother. Why she should put her grief aside and start socialising there. Noone of RF member were chatting.

The Queen was Sophie’s Mother in Law.

IF she did ignore Meghan, that's very rude, regardless of her feelings of grief or dislike. I don't think I said anything about chatting - acknowledgement, not giving an obvious cold shoulder, would be fine.
