I'm still a republican despite being fascinated by all this. Nothing again them personally.

KosherDill · 19/09/2022 17:31

I notice the Bidens left England immediately after the Westminster Abbey part. Am somewhat surprised they were not invited to Windsor.

TroysMammy · 19/09/2022 17:31

@CatsandFish I'm hearing impaired and it definitely was King as King Charles wasn't singing. The Queen never sang God Save The Queen.

FuzzyPuffling · 19/09/2022 17:31

See you all at the Coronation!

Possibly other engagements? Plus he isn’t that young either.

Are there to be more officail days of mourning after this?

I think that the RF might have some official private days (much deserved).

Thank you.

I thought that there was something said at the accession that there would be 7 or 10 days after the funeral.

Presumably for family & perhaps certain staff?

FreyaStorm · 19/09/2022 17:32

Does anyone know when King Charles’ coronation will be?

I think it was just family and personal friends and associates, and British politicians. There just wouldn’t be space.

Gingerwarthog · 19/09/2022 17:33

Have been mesmerised by the services and ceremony all day, watching with DH and DD.
Incredible organisation and beautifully presented by the BBC I thought. Felt for Kirsty Young - trying so hard not to cry.
Emma the pony and the corgis made us all emotional.

There was due to be a reception for foreign dignitaries.

"Most people I know feel like now she’s gone they should abolish the RF. She was the lynch pin for sure."

I don't know. If the last week has shown us anything it's that there's still a huge global interest in our royal traditions. Cant see it being disbanded anytime soon.

Kate looks utterly elegant and polished. I know she has help but honestly she never gets this sort of thing wrong.

It helps that she looks utterly stunning in black.

OriginalFloorboards · 19/09/2022 17:36

Proud to be British.

Exemplary and beautiful procession, service and final journey of her majesty.

I stood up and sang God Save The Queen, amidst solemnity and tears.

Royal days of mourning.

LadyLuck14 · 19/09/2022 17:37

I think people like William and Catherine and they’re incredibly popular so they’re willing to put up with Charles in the interim

Dave20 · 19/09/2022 17:37

I imagine all the other guests and foreign heads of state will have gone to a reception somewhere.
King Charles’ coronation is next year some time, last I heard.

Dave20 · 19/09/2022 17:39

Nothing against Charles but given his age, I’d have forgiven him for passing it straight down to William. But that’s another debate!

MrsFezziwig · 19/09/2022 17:40

For those who missed the corgis….

No, he'd never abdicate

I thought I'd feel like that, but I don't. I actually found the history and the ceremony incredibly reassuring. It speaks to longevity and stability to me. I think continued modernisation is necessary but I no longer feel like we may be at the end.

JustLyra · 19/09/2022 17:40

I think the popularity will depend on what they do next.

If it stays relatively scandal free. Andrew stays out the lime light. There’s no more drama between Charles and Harry. Just visits to hospices and the occasional inclusion of the Wales children then he’ll be fine.

If he handles Andrew, Harry or the mood of the nation wrong with regard to the coronation and how much he changes things then he won’t be.

if he has any sense then imo he’ll change very little, be uncontroversial and keep things in his mother’s mould. Otherwise some people will point out that he’s doing things differently from a very loved woman who got only a few things wrong in 70 years.

Toddlerteaplease · 19/09/2022 17:41

I doubt Charles would want to put that burden on William when he had very young children.

I’m glad he didn’t. He fits the role well

Although I do hope long live the King having seen the momentous effort put in today

Libre55 · 19/09/2022 17:42

Only Harry signalled for his wife to go first in the car. Charles, William and Edward just jumped in and let the lady follow.
