Not to lower the tone but were there boobs on the flag??

Indeed there were - we commented on that too!

Ok, I'm a mess now. That passage from Revelation always ends me...

Me too, such a promise

What happened with the piper? The stream I was watching it looked like he piped himself out of the church - anyone understand the symbolism?

The Lament.
Google may say about the Symbolism.

So she is lowered into the vault - incredbibly moving -- but that is just for the ceremony? She and Phillip will be brought back up (using that same mechanism in the floor of the chapel? ) and moved elsewhere? I'm confused.

I notice the camera did not show the vacant hole after the coffin was lowered. Was it covered before everyone walked out?

What an unforgettable day.

They kept the camera off for a period but there was a view from above that showed the stone back in place before they got up to leave.

diddl · 19/09/2022 17:15

I wonder if HMQ had ever made a list of people she would have wanted there?

Fergie was at both & Earl Spencer at Windsor.

What a long day for them & not done yet!

I wonder who will be at the interment?

Are there to be more officail days of mourning after this?

So the family can get a break?

SunflowerOrange · 19/09/2022 17:15

Thankyou also for the company. Feels less "alone" in it all.

Thank you MNers. My teen has been completely disinterested and DH is working so it's been lovely to have company. I didn't even intend to watch it all.

I hadn't intended to watch as much. DH went out with DS for the afternoon. Unfortunately I've gone down with a nasty bug and have spent all day in bed.

Glad I did watch though.

TheWeeDonkeyFella · 19/09/2022 17:16

@containsnuts According to the BBC, the Queen herself requested the piper play a blessing:
The Queen will then be lowered into the royal vault and the Sovereign's piper will play before a blessing and the singing of God Save the King. The performance by the piper at Windsor was something the Queen had personally requested, Buckingham Palace said. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-60617519

I’m sure she would have done.

So emotional. Charles was very moved. Edward and Sophie very upset. Harry looking furious (does he just look angry all the time now?) the symbolism of the removal of the orb and sceptre. What an ordeal for the family to witness.

I think Harry tends to look angry when he’s most upset.

User287264 · 19/09/2022 17:17

Thanks for your company this afternoon folks. I don't really want to leave.....

Sunbird24 · 19/09/2022 17:17

The period of royal mourning lasts for another 7 days, but national mourning ends tonight.

Attached a. Image of the Royal Standard… (yes there are boobs on it)

I kind of understand why we got a bank holiday now after that

KenAdams · 19/09/2022 17:18

MrsFezziwig · 19/09/2022 17:10

Just realised I haven’t brushed my teeth today and, like the royals, haven’t been to the loo for about 6 hours (though ex NHS so pretty well trained in that respect). Thanks @KenAdams for starting these threads and to all the Mumsnetters keeping me company today, it’s been so different to how it can sometimes be on this site.

You're welcome. I started the original one at 1am, I couldn't sleep thinking about it all and wanted some company so thank you all.

I hope MN can keep these threads somehow as I'd like to go back and read the posts I missed.

The piper walking off always gets me.

Seeing the Queen as a baby and little girl just makes her seem so real. Obviously she was a real person. It just makes her seem more mortal, if that makes sense.
Seeing her as a baby and not an older lady, just feel tearful. No more words really.

sausage767 · 19/09/2022 17:18

I need to go to bed, it’s after 2 am here! And our public holiday is not until Thursday. 😳

Dinoteeth · 19/09/2022 17:18

No the funeral is the end of the 10 days.

I really hope Charles and Ann esp get a decent chance to catch their breath and chill after all this. They must be completely wrung out.

Thanks, yes I understand why there was a lone piper but I don't know why he walked away while piping. Never seen that before.

NotJustAnybody · 19/09/2022 17:19

I feel totally wrung out. I've had the TV on since 8am, still on. I thought I'd get a bit bored but it's been mesmerising and so beautifully choreographed. So glad I watched it. Seeing Kirsty struggle to hold her tears made me start up again.

mydogisthebest · 19/09/2022 17:19

I have cried on off for hours and am now sobbing. I don't know how her family have kept it together

KatherineJaneway · 19/09/2022 17:20

Very emotional day 😢

bellac11 · 19/09/2022 17:20

So is there an accurate number of how many people are thought to have watched it around the world, I know someone said 4 billion but that sounds a lot and Im wondering how its calculated

ozymandiusking · 19/09/2022 17:20

Has any one else noticed that Kate at the beginning was wearing the pearl diamond shamrock brooch, and towards the end wasn't wearing it. I wondered if the fastener was broken and she popped it in her hand bag.

itsgettingweird · 19/09/2022 17:20

purpleme12 · 19/09/2022 17:13

Well I have to say yesterday I wasn't really sure if I'd watch this. Thought we might have it on in the background.
I put it on about half 10 and have watched the whole thing. It was like something you didn't want to tear your eyes from in the end.

Same here.

I put it on at 9 on iPad in kitchen whilst batch cooking to watch the build up.

Ds watched the gun carriage.

Neither of us was sure we could manage another funeral (although this one obviously wasn't our own mum and Nan).

But I've watched it on and off all day - mesmerising is the right word someone used above.

Ds has watched some of the military stuff. He couldn't watch the funeral.

He did say he'd watch Kings Charles funeral though 🤔🤣
