The Queens funeral

This is a real good guide for all the timings for tomorrow - www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-60617519

The bit at the end with the Lord Chamberlain will be the hardest to watch I think, signaling the end of his service to her, as will the act of separating her from her crown.

I know everyone isn't a royalist but today will be such a sad occasion.

It's embarrassing that some people can't even show respect during a funeral to not comment crap like that.

Quite.

I love those flowers.

Me too. So personal and the colours are beautiful. Such a difference from white lilies which I think are such depressing flowers.

Regarding Edinburgh, I thought there would be many 'Operations' eg, one for Wales (another mainland one), One for NI (involving flight) and many overseas ones.

There were. But by all accounts they decided to change a bunch of stuff and certain things were overlooked too. In addition it sounds like some plans were completely ripped when the announcement was made too - some for practical reasons, others for reasons unknown.

Just to get you thinking, on the Friday there were scaffolds going up in Westminster. Getting that camera up in the top of the Abbey must have been a feet. Normally for something on this scale they'd take a lot longer than 10days on stuff like that. And if your specialist crew is in one place, they may not be able to do it elsewhere too.

I have no idea how many cameras and feeds they have running today but it's enormous.

I agree, I have often heard that people will wait till they have done everything they feel they need to. I think she wanted to wait till Boris had gone and H and M were here

I also think she knew to go before Christmas. These 12 days would have been a very complex challenge for so many families if it had been over the Christmas period.
Wonderful woman that she was.

Can you imagine behind the scenes? The polishing of the shoes, the cars, the sweeping of paths, the cleaning of facades, the practice runs for marching, the service rehearsals. The haircuts! I swear every rating had a fresh buzz cut.

I was just talking to my kids about this. How when I was in the forces it so often fell to us to do the litter picking, sweeping and clear up after big events. I remember six months before I left, resentfully sweeping a huge outside area before a reception for a load of dignitaries and thinking how I couldn't wait to never have to do this kind of tedious BS again!

As an aside, anyone know how the crown and orb stay in place

The Orb is fixed to the coffin, I think? It looks like there is a stand for it.

The coffin was built with fastenings for these on top

Bouledeneige · 19/09/2022 11:52

The petals have been brought up with a lot if the stiff upper lip. So I'm not surprised they are holding it together. They've also probably had more private and quiet moments with the coffin. And I imagine the interment at windsor will feel more final.

TockClicking · 19/09/2022 11:53

The view of the coffin from above set me off crying. Crazy when you think how long she reigned and that the last time we had a funeral for a monarch was her father all those years ago.

Sunbird24 · 19/09/2022 11:53

The bass voices in the choir are so low you almost feel rather than hear them

Mitsouko67 · 19/09/2022 11:53

I like the wreath. There is something very personal about the pink flowers. Also like the rosemary and oak leaves.

The Baroness was very impressive and wore her Commonwealth scarf beautifully.

Beautiful music.

Watching on RTE.

Bouledeneige · 19/09/2022 11:53

Sorry royals not petals !

Konfetka · 19/09/2022 11:53

HeidiWhole · 19/09/2022 11:47

The little chorister with the red curls is adorable

agreed!

RedDwarfGarbagePod · 19/09/2022 11:54

I love James Macmillan's music. Fabulous composer.

XXV · 19/09/2022 11:54

Wow - the choir are going for it with this one! Incredible.

stripeyzeb · 19/09/2022 11:54

It's nice to see a good mix of church leaders there, not just from the well-known established church but the Pentecostal and other denominations too.

CableTidy · 19/09/2022 11:54

I think the wreath is very beautiful, the roses look like some of the David Austin Elizabeth varieties

BellePeppa · 19/09/2022 11:54

hamstersarse · 19/09/2022 11:49

I think the service men and women are doing a marvellous job. So fantastic to see young people performing such duty.

mind you, I have boys of similar age to the pallbearers and if I was a parent of one of them I would have to be sedated because of the fear of them dropping the coffin. Ewwwww imagine.

I was literally looking through my fingers I felt so stressed for them.

LakieLady · 19/09/2022 11:54

This singing is giving me real goose bumps. Just wonderful.

mostlydrinkstea · 19/09/2022 11:54

The Archbishop is doing a grand job.

EntertainingandFactual · 19/09/2022 11:54

KosherDill · 19/09/2022 11:47

Surely this isn't the end?

@KosherDill Not at all. Look at the schedule for the day linked in the OP’s first post.

NashvilleQueen · 19/09/2022 11:54

Please can we* all* stop bickering. If there's a disrespectful post just ignore and move on. I have hidden threads today so I don't feel tempted to argue. People looking for a row don't get one if you don't react.

Some will find a row in an empty room when they want to!

littlbrowndog · 19/09/2022 11:55

Beautiful singing.

PizzaFunghi · 19/09/2022 11:55

Actually I'm not sure there are benches in the front row of the choir now, just got a better view. So might be the red ones have to stand. But they have to be there in order to see the conductor and hear the rest of the choir.

sparklecement · 19/09/2022 11:50

We do have the BBC in Scotland you know? And you know what’s they also broadcast live too.

There is also an airport about 20/25 minutes from St Giles Cathedral.

Yes. But getting the right presenters and specialist crew is a different matter. Especially since they needed so many extra for a broadcast on that scale.

Its not a criticism of Scotland. Its a point about the size of the operation this week.
