What temp will you set your heating at this Winter?

I usually set mine to a toasty 22 degrees as I'm always cold and loooove a warm house.
Obviously with the cost of heating I'll need to reasses, thinking maybe 20 but hubby says 18. What temperature do you think is comfortable during Autumn/Winter and what temperature will you be setting your heating at??

When I’m here alone during the day (WFH), I’ll have it on 18. First thing in the morning and in the evening when children are here probably 20. I won’t have them feeling cold.

bellinisurge · 15/09/2022 15:38

Probably 20. We have a log burning stove and got plenty of kiln dried logs in to supplement central heating at that temperature or act as an alternative if the power goes out.

FourTeaFallOut · 15/09/2022 15:40

20/ 21c but 16c between 10pm - 5am. There'll only be a few days in January when it'll kick in on the night time, though.

Mybeautifulfriend22 · 15/09/2022 15:41

We have it on a couple of hours morning and 2/3 hours late afternoon evening at around 19. When it’s very cold we boost it to twenty for an extra hour or so. Jumpers and blankets! Off overnight.

hugoagogo · 15/09/2022 15:42

18 when we are in, 17 when we are out (for the cat), 14 overnight as normal.
Luckily ds no longer working from home.Smile

hugoagogo · 15/09/2022 15:43

14 overnight almost never kicks in, maybe once in ten years.

bebravelikesuperman · 15/09/2022 15:43

25 in the winter evenings

Not sure why I'm so down on January, could as equally kick in on any of the cold days.

Dilbertian · 15/09/2022 15:44

Same as always: 18, with an electric rad in the room where dh WFH.

somewhereovertherain · 15/09/2022 15:45

Always been 18 in our house and off overnight

Itsunlovelyinthegarden · 15/09/2022 15:45

Ours is set to 16.5 during the day and 12 at night.

Pootle40 · 15/09/2022 15:45

During the day ours is always 18c. Timer is off at night so won't kick in even if it wanted to !

We also have it at 18 when we’re in, and 14 at night. I’m very mean though so I don’t put it on for the cats, as they need to tighten their belts as much as the rest of us!

KleineDracheKokosnuss · 15/09/2022 15:46

Probably 15.

bodie1890 · 15/09/2022 15:46

Probably 20/21. And recognise that I am very privileged to be able to.

bebravelikesuperman · 15/09/2022 15:43

25 in the winter evenings

My Hive system sends everyone in the an emergency text if the indoor temperature hits 25! 😁

abovedecknotbelow · 15/09/2022 15:47

Depends weee you live doesn't it? We have a new boiler without a digital thermostat so no idea, it's very very rare it's cold enough to have it on all day, never overnight as it makes us all stuffy. Usually about quarter to half in winter. We're in a terrace though and def benefit from the neighbours hearing.

If I was up in Scotland, it would be on a lot higher.

Dilbertian · 15/09/2022 15:48

Oh yes, I'd forgotten that ours is off overnight. Only on for a couple of hours in the morning and 5-6h in the evening.

ivykaty44 · 15/09/2022 15:48

I warm me & not the house.

heating is set on 18 degrees and comes on in the morning for 30 minutes then the afternoon at 4:30 - 6:30pm which warms the house until bed time

i can always override the temperature & increase or lower as needed

KangarooKenny · 15/09/2022 15:49

I personally like ours on 18, but DH always whacks it onto 20+. I can see that there will be a battle this year.

FourTeaFallOut · 15/09/2022 15:50

Do you just shout, "Jesus, it's cold, isn't it?" through the walls?

Sothis · 15/09/2022 15:50

18c during day on a timer and off overnight.

I grew up in NZ where the climate is similar (if not colder in the south island) and very few houses have central heating. I was back last month - depths of winter - and my family's houses had no heating during the day even though 4c outside. You wear layers of merino wool and heat your living room in the evening. I spent the whole time borrowing more layers and grateful for central heating!

ivykaty44 · 15/09/2022 15:51

That’s what happened last year - this year will be the same I guess. Heating went on last week in October

I do don’t feel the cold though, and find if the temperature is set over 19 I get far to hot

RatherBeRiding · 15/09/2022 15:51

I have a wood burner so the CH is usually set for 16 and off overnight.

ThisisCollie2022 · 15/09/2022 15:52

Probably 20. We have a log burning stove and got plenty of kiln dried logs in to supplement central heating at that temperature or act as an alternative if the power goes out.

Same plan here!

We had ours on for 30 mins earlier as our house was quite humid after all the rain and it made the world of difference.

We don't have the heating on at night as it gets dry and stuffy, and we don't sleep well with the boiler whirring away.
