What temp will you set your heating at this Winter?

I usually set mine to a toasty 22 degrees as I'm always cold and loooove a warm house.
Obviously with the cost of heating I'll need to reasses, thinking maybe 20 but hubby says 18. What temperature do you think is comfortable during Autumn/Winter and what temperature will you be setting your heating at??

Try thinking about this.

if you put your thermostat in a room with the windows open and sat in another room with the windows and doors closed. Where do you think it would be 22° & do you think the rooms would be the same temperature?

FourTeaFallOut · 15/09/2022 15:54

My pil live in Chch and it's milder in winter there than here in the North East, and the number of daylight hours are greater.

Garbytea · 15/09/2022 15:54

Mine is normally on 19 and a small electric heater in my office and living room when I'm in them. Hoping to keep it the same this year, but I'm on oil and can't afford to top up until closer to winter when the prices will be a lot higher I suspect so we shall see.

teenagetantrums · 15/09/2022 15:56

We usually only put it on when it's really cold so m

fluffiphlox · 15/09/2022 15:56

21°. It’s not on between 2230 and 0645.

LadyDanburysHat · 15/09/2022 15:57

Our thermostat is in the hall so not set higher than 17, because it is near the front door which is a little drafty. That means my Living room sits at 20-21 which is comfortable. I don't find 18 to be a comfortable temperature for the whole house, but I like my bedrooms that temp.

teenagetantrums · 15/09/2022 15:57

Maybe 21/22. But we are £300 in credit and on a fixed rate. So this price rise won't affect us until April

Hollyhead · 15/09/2022 15:58

18 generally but 19 as a treat if it’s particularly cold.

SatInTheCorner · 15/09/2022 16:05

Mine will be off. Might come on for an hour or two if its super cold one day. Otherwise I will be heating us, and not the rooms.

Just1thing · 15/09/2022 16:06

It’s a tricky one. My living room is 20.5 right now and I’m cold so I’m under a blanket. Usually we would go for 22.

Are you sure about that…?

JustTheOneSwan · 15/09/2022 16:10

Last year we used heating for 11 hours total! Humped plenty of wood and coal though.

Same for us.

DialsMavis · 15/09/2022 16:15

19 for an hour in the morning and evening (will try 18), used to be 20.

17 in the day if oodies and tracksuit bottoms and slippers dont work, will try not to but sitting wfh gets v chilly.

Off at night

Wafflesnsniffles · 15/09/2022 16:16

Same as all previous years 16c. With a boost if jumpers/extra socks etc isnt enough.

I know these huge costs are awful but I do appreciate that they might be a way for people to reduce the impact they have on the planet. 22c is a summer thing -the sun!

ManagementPlan · 15/09/2022 16:17

I've had mine set at 19 for years, which is plenty when you're moving about doing chores etc and a bit chilly if you settle down in front of TV, but that's what blankets are for.

I'm glad I won't be wfh this winter

imissedabit · 15/09/2022 16:17

Off 😂

ManagementPlan · 15/09/2022 16:19

I should say 19 during the day when we're at home. It's set at 12 degrees overnight and when out at work (ie very rarely comes on) and goes off 45 mins before bedtime.

faithtrustandpixiedust · 15/09/2022 16:20

Usually 18 during the day and off at night, our heating actually clicked on first thing this morning for the first time in months so it's defo got chilly.

Just1thing · 15/09/2022 16:07

@Just1thing

Why wouldn't she be when she's on a FIXED RATE?

AntlerRose · 15/09/2022 16:24

18 in the day, 14 at night, but like pp 14 at night means it is only vary rarely on. Night for us is 10pm to 7am.

Strugglingtodomybest · 15/09/2022 16:26

18 during the day, may whack it up a bit if it's particularly cold, and 16 at night.

NeverTooLateToSing · 15/09/2022 16:29

Ours isn't on yet; we usually switch it on towards the end of October. When we do, it comes on at 6am at 18 degrees for an hour. Then 2 hours in the evening, and that's all. Plenty of jumpers, and a wood-burner for when it gets really cold. It's showing 20 degrees C in the house at the moment, which is comfortable.

Theraffarian · 15/09/2022 16:30

18 during the day , although we start with just mornings and evenings in October, and off overnight . The thermostat is in a bit of a drafty place though , so some rooms like the living room we tend to keep the door closed so it’s warmer in there for the evening , and I suspect other rooms warm up to over 18 .

Shodan · 15/09/2022 16:32

I'm not sure, tbh. Last winter it was set to 20 and most of the house felt cold. But I have a large window on the landing (double glazed but uncurtained) and a heat-sapping poorly-built conservatory at the back.

However I now have curtains ready to put up at the window and fingers crossed, a brick built extension due to be finished before Christmas in place of the conservatory. So those, plus the open fire in the sitting room will hopefully mean I can reduce the inside temp to 17 or 18 ish.(lower at night)
