Anyone else feel Kate was born to be a royal?

Watching the Queen's coverage all week & Kate looks like she was born for the role. (Also please don't turn this into a Meghan bashing thread, Meghan is equally beautiful & elegant but has chosen to be a non working royal which is why this thread is about Kate).
Even looking back at old school photos she looked so poised & elegant. She had an idyllic childhood, supportive parents & is doing a wonderful job in her new role.

Meghan couldn't.

Neither could Diana. It does seem to be a skill.

I was unaware she even had any friends besides her family

Maybe the point is that she prefers to keep her private life under the radar instead of flogging it to the highest bidder?

Not everyone wants Hello prancing round at their wedding or to have "journalists" thrusting chequebooks under the noses of their friends, and not everyone views a friendship as a means of cashing in

That's the impression I get. She sees her public appearances as a job and expects to be left alone otherwise. She has never actively courted press attention and always kept her private life private.

Or Sarah Ferguson.

If you can't resist as much as a Mumsnet flame war, don't kid yourself that you could do Kate's job.

Am an extreme Republican, but I have a soft sport for Sarah because she was once very kind to a friend of mine on her first day at work as a nervous 21-year-old. This was not in front of the cameras so she was just being genuinely nice.

I think Sarah would have the best of both worlds- can get as fat as she wants and wear what she wants- if not for having to put up with Andrew.

How was the affair rumour disproved? How could it even be disproved?!

I've seen people argue that Pippa called her new baby Rose & there obviously isn't any truth to the rumour as Pippa wouldn't hace called her child after ger sister's husband's mistress... The actual truth is that we don't know what Pippa called her little girl as it was a daily mail article reporting & the article was based on speculation.

I definitely believe she was groomed to 'marry well' but, having said that, she took time to work out if this marriage, and all that goes with it, was the right thing for her.

She seems to have settled well within the family on a personal level and has carried out her role brilliantly IMO. I think she looks grief-stricken right now so I imagine she had a good relationship with HLMTQ.

I think she's going to be a great Princess of Wales. Big shoes to fill as Diana was popular, but I can't think if anyone else better. It's all about absolute dedication to public service, representing the people and country well, and selflessness. The late Queen had all this by the bucketful and I think Catherine does, too.

She definitely was, her boyfriend in St Andrews Rupert Finch prior to William was extremely handsome, rich & well connected.

Interestingly Rose's husband has been relieved of his royal role by the new King. He was the Lord Great Chamberlain, but Charles has made a new appointment.

Brightstar12 · 16/09/2022 10:46

@DreadingWinter that is interesting... I do think Kate & Rose are quite similar physically, he obviously has a type!

Incorrect. The role of The Lord Great Chamberlain has always been shared between 3 households.
It changes between the households with every change of Monarch.
I believe the Cholmondeley's have the greatest share (50%) of the role so the Marquess of Cholmondeley may well take up the role again when William becomes King.
But don't let the facts get in the way of your muck raking.

Ha! If I was getting paid as much as she is and getting a life of luxury and in return couldn’t reply to comments I thought were stupid on Mumsnet, I wouldn’t. Thing is, I’m not. So… here we are.

anyway, how do you know Kate isn’t on here slagging everyone off? 😂😂😂

I suppose it's possible, but with Mumsnet databases and the Palace being two of the leakiest places on earth, it seems unlikely. Even if she used a burner email account, I wouldn't trust that nobody could ever access her devices.

As before, Meghan, Diana and Sarah were all kept very well to sit down and shut up, but they couldn't. Nor Harry, for that matter. If being a royal was so easy, there would never be any scandals.

LadyApplejack · 16/09/2022 11:37

I agree she has "it". Neither Kate nor her family put a foot wrong, and she undoubtedly looks the part. The royals are very lucky to have her.

DreadingWinter · 16/09/2022 11:57

@MrsFinkelstein Apologies. I did do some research but it was reported on tv that he had been sacked, media eh!

I'm usually pretty well up on these things as I have close relatives that have had rôles within the Royal circle and live in a grace and favour house at Windsor.

No worries. As the Cholmondeley's have the greatest share of the role and have been doing it for so long it's an easy mistake to make that they had the role permanently.

Aintnosupermum · 16/09/2022 15:44

Fergie has been treated appallingly for years. I quite like her because she is who she is. It’s very obvious as to why her marriage fell apart.

DofC is brilliant in her role. When she had her first child, it was a power move to walk out of the front door, into a car and not be seen for months after, but emerge rested and in a good spot, able to handle the public side of their life.

Kate Moss is another who understands the power of silence. You never hear her talk. She sounded very nice when she gave evidence to the court.

runs off because yes, I make sure I’m heard….

And highly amused at all the crap being reported as actual fact because 'my cousin knows Kates postman.'

Re: her accent, go into any cafe in Marlborough and all the girls sound like her, ditto Cheltenham etc, it's a house accent. It's really interesting how everyone picks it up after a time!

Kate is fab.

Bollocks. Have people forgotten all the sneering and raised eyebrows when Kate's accent suddenly morphed from normal private school to 'posher than the Queen' over the course of a few months? One minute she sounded like everyone else who goes to schools like Marlborough, Charterhouse and Wellington (which is how William and Harry speak) and then the next minute she was all carefully annunciated vowels and over pronunciation. Frankly she sounds a bit ridiculous as it sounds so contrived.

But how? That circle is notoriously impossible to break into if you're not aristocratic... New money is sneered at..

Good point.

She was sneered at. 'Doors to manual'. Don't you remember?

Her accent definitely changed there were multiple posts on here about it.

ohfook · 16/09/2022 18:15

She's my favourite royal but I think the key is she spent years preparing for the role. I think by the time she married William she knew exactly what would be expected of her.

I actually really like Meghan so definitely won't be bashing her but I think the problem was, for whatever reason, (I wonder if it's because Harry wanted to marry her quickly before she realised royal life is a bit shit) she wasn't adequately prepared.

ajandjjmum · 16/09/2022 18:28

ImJustMadAboutSaffron · 16/09/2022 00:18

They were on holiday and she was sunbathing topless in her own backyard. Nothing wrong with that.

And the photographer was a mile away! Shocking - but they dealt with it.

LobeliaBaggins · 16/09/2022 07:48

I don't have a problem with Kate personally for not expressing opinions. Not her fault and she can't be expected to defy tradition. I have a problem with royalty across the world: Japanese, Dutch, Thai.. The " job" description for any princess is to be thin, look pretty, wear nice clothes, produce heirs, voice scripted speeches... Be a mannequin basically.

It just grates when other women in these countries are doing so much else of note and I personally would rather my daughter be anything else.

I mean, statistically it's incredibly likely that's she's going to be anything else. There's only three she can marry to have even a chance of becoming Princess and I don't know if she'd even get that title for marrying Charlotte or Louis

Yes, of course. And since we are brown, she has 0 chance even with those three! I was responding to pp saying how proud the Middletons must be and I can't see why, frankly.

Bugeyedowl · 09/01/2023 13:58

No I don't. I think she was groomed to go after the prince by her mother and she set out to do anything and everything possible to get there. And she fits in very well, because she's made sure to fit in.
