Anyone else feel Kate was born to be a royal?

Watching the Queen's coverage all week & Kate looks like she was born for the role. (Also please don't turn this into a Meghan bashing thread, Meghan is equally beautiful & elegant but has chosen to be a non working royal which is why this thread is about Kate).
Even looking back at old school photos she looked so poised & elegant. She had an idyllic childhood, supportive parents & is doing a wonderful job in her new role.

She's perfect. Poised, elegant, she has humility, not too much, not too little. What's becoming more and more evident in recent years is the very steely core beneath it all.

In fact, not a million miles away from someone else very special..

Quirrelsotherface · 15/09/2022 21:10

Let's not forget it was not The Queen's destiny to become the monarch. Her Uncle abdicated and then her Father passed very young. All that thrown at the feet of the then 25 year old princess. There are lots of similarities I see between HM and Princess of Wales.

heartbroken22 · 15/09/2022 21:16

Yeah she sure does- I still haven't forgotten the topless pics.

This thread is hilarious. So many people berating the POW for being bland, uninteresting, lazy etc. I'd love to meet some of you who are going on like this. You must be utterly fascinating with your world leading careers (typing furiously on MN) 😆

😄

This isn't intended as a personal slight on SAHM. No one said there's anything wrong with that. And of course people who unquestioningly revere this privileged institution will take any perceived slight against them as being 'nasty'. It isn't.

It's a legitimate criticism to recognize that a far lower bar is set for this family on standards of work and behaviour than practically anyone else. They are ooohed and aaahed and praised to the skies for things most of us see as all in the day's work. That's the basis on which I criticize her total lack of substance and lack of interaction with any form of meaningful work. I'm not body-shaming, or clothes-shaming, or making wild reaches about the motivation of she or her mother, or the circumstances by which she came to university, or whether she 'stalked' her husband or who in the family bullied who, or any of the rest of the utter pap being speculated about on this thread.

I'm challenging her complete lack of any kind of work ethic. You want to be a Duchess/Princess/whatever fantasy title you choose to call yourself, you don't get to be a 'stay at home'. You're being given unimaginable privilege in return for a very low bar of expectation, you're unelected and can't be removed by due democratic process from that position of privilege. The least a person can
do in these gilded circumstances is get up off your backside and do some meaningful work in exchange for it.

Kate hasn't. She's had years in which she could have at least tried to make some form of impact. Not only has she chosen not to, she hasn't even made any pretence of wanting to do so. And this isn't a matter of personal opinion. The engagement records, year in, year out, have her listed as the laziest Windsor bar none. Monarchists may tell whoppers, republicans might tell them too, but the court circular is a matter of public record. And it doesn't lie.

She's a dedicated wife and mother who dutifully carries out any duties expected of her while raising happy contented children and doing charitable work. It might not be what would fulfil you, but lots of women would find it satisfying. Why are you sneering at it?

And the "clearly very happy" trope - I thought that the narrative had changed COMPLETELY... obviously it depends what we believe or have read - but it seems that all is definitely not well in the marriage

No it doesn't. Some people like to imply that with absolutely no evidence. Fair play to William and Kate for smiling through and not letting petty and spiteful innuendo by gossipers who have nothing better to do impact on them.

Stompythedinosaur · 15/09/2022 21:28

I assume we are all going to ignore the many, many rumours about William's ongoing affair?

I think Kate comes across brilliantly, but I'm less convinced that all is as perfect as is portrayed.

I think the fact that she possibly has friends who keep their traps firmly shut says good things about her and her ability to pick friends.

She grew up with money, she was always going to end up married to some toothy good-ish looking rich lad.

This. She stays near here with friends but always incognito so nobody knows.

Is there anything more unattractive than a nose twitching gossiper dying to spread a juicy rumour while trying to pretend she's being discreet?

That nasty rumour was disproved years ago. Sorry to spoil your fun.

Re: her accent, go into any cafe in Marlborough and all the girls sound like her, ditto Cheltenham etc, it's a house accent. It's really interesting how everyone picks it up after a time!

Kate is fab.

Kate is Southern

I had said her northern antecedents.

Her father was born in Leeds and his family had roots there. Her mother’s great grandfather was a Durham miner. Some of her extended family still live near Durham.

Bideshi · 15/09/2022 21:31

Then…. How do you know?!

Diverseopinions · 15/09/2022 21:51

People treat it as if being the wife of a royal is just a marital decision. It isnt. You are joining the firm and taking on a full time role. There are not many equivalents to this role, in any country.

You're making that decision to have a public profile which must be symbolic, to represent the state, and which must suppress your own personal wishes and personality. You must stick at it, to help the monarchy to do a good job . Not many people could do it; many aristocratic young women turned down the idea of being a royal wife to William or Harry. They didn't want to give of themselves so completely.

Decades ago, aristocratic women were raised to know what being a royal, or a courtier meant. It helps if you have some understanding, I guess.

I don't think you can successfully do a job when you take on marrying a Prince. Too many people would want to know your business, record everything you say, or you might be in danger. You have to be what the various dimensions of the royal position entail. Catherine has achieved this. She has captured the mood of each occasion and put the ordinary men and women she meets and thanks to the centre of the stage.

YourLipsMyLipsApocalypse · 15/09/2022 21:52

How was the affair rumour disproved? How could it even be disproved?!

LadyHooHa · 15/09/2022 21:52

Brightstar12 · 15/09/2022 15:17

@LadyHooHa but how exactly did they do it?!

By having a rather naff party business which earned them squillions.

By realising that sending their children to independent schools was a very good leg-up.

By making sure said children didn't do the 'posh child' thing of taking their pony to school, managing an A level or two, and then doing a cookery course and a ski season. If any of the Middleton children had wanted to do the things that some young people I know have done, their parents would have had sharp words with them.

They were clearly intent on education as a means to achieve social status. Upper middle class/aristo children don't have this push, because they already have the social status, and probably have the money which means they don't need to worry about being able to say they were once lacrosse captain.

Yes, I think a mean spirited individual who quickly resorts to childish name calling when someone disagrees with them is pretty unattractive.

I've told you above, in some detail.

Why are you repetitiously asking the same question?

She wasn't betrothed at birth to William. What was thrown at a 25 year old Kate's feet?

I definitely believe she was groomed to 'marry well' but, having said that, she took time to work out if this marriage, and all that goes with it, was the right thing for her.

She seems to have settled well within the family on a personal level and has carried out her role brilliantly IMO. I think she looks grief-stricken right now so I imagine she had a good relationship with HLMTQ.

I think she's going to be a great Princess of Wales. Big shoes to fill as Diana was popular, but I can't think if anyone else better. It's all about absolute dedication to public service, representing the people and country well, and selflessness. The late Queen had all this by the bucketful and I think Catherine does, too.

She is a physicallly beautiful woman without opinions who smiles at the right time.

i agree that she is perfect for the role. And I say that with no sarcasm.

but the role itself is a depressing notion of what the Ideal Woman is.

So shes a carbon copy of the late Queen? She was very beautiful, no one knew her opinions on anything and she smiled in all the right places! Kate has being royal absolutely spot on! She knows that she is there to draw attention to the people, places, charities and causes she visits .....not to draw attention to herself!
