So the question is, would you join it? I’m just not very patient and don’t think I could do it!

Changing the guards so frequently must be holding things up a lot as it seems it's done fairly slowly : maybe an hour each guard might be better? Unless there is a reason it's done like this ? So they all get a chance to do it ?

Because standing to attention/on duty/having 100% focus etc for an hour is a long time.

They're guarding the Queen's body, not just standing around looking pretty.

Oh they're changing again, it's only been 20 mins, this is the opposite of what I was worried about!

Stand up right now and concentrate only on your duty to protect something behind you. Imagine a line if people wandering by you.

You have to stand as still as possible and keep that focus 100% for the entire time. Do it allow your kind to wander. Do not allow anything to escape your notice. And be ready to intercept if needed.

See if it feels like "only 20 minutes".

Mooserp · 15/09/2022 13:43

Up to 4.4 miles now

FourChimneys · 15/09/2022 13:52

Sparklingbrook I run my own business which is why I could rearrange my diary if I wanted to.

I'm fascinated by the cross section of people filing past though. I wonder if some people who have appropriate job are able to "wfh* on a tablet while queuing.

negomi90 · 15/09/2022 14:00

Full time Doctor here, I average 40+h weeks. I could have gone this week if I wanted to. No rearranging of work or working in the line needed. I finished night shifts Tuesday am, not back at work until tomorrow for a day shift. Then I'm off for the weekend and I'm not sure yet if I'm working Monday (but I don't think so). I could have gone this week, I could go this weekend. I'm not because I like my own bathroom and I'm a bit wossy so I'll stay and watch the live stream. But you can still work full time in a non flexible job and find a way to go should you want to.

longestlurkerever · 15/09/2022 14:16

The building is part of the Houses of Parliament. It's the oldest part and you enter by it if you ever go to visit Parliament, which is open to the public (though sometimes subject to its own queueing system, depending on how popular a subject it is. Often you can just walk in (via security gates like at an airport). There's a gift shop!

EmmaH2022 · 15/09/2022 14:26

Sorry if repeating any other posts
reports from Twitter warn of full on smells from the bathroom
also said the online trackers are more reliable than steward info. I'm sure the stewards are doing their best though,

must be a really tough job and people asking "are we there yet" must be a mare!

SoupDragon · 15/09/2022 14:29

Who are the archers on guard at the moment? They have long bows and quivers of arrows.
i don't recall every seeing them on occasions before.

FetlocksBlowingInTheWind · 15/09/2022 15:44

So if it's up to 4.4 miles now, what does that translate to in waiting times?

Figgygal · 15/09/2022 15:50

I am utterly bewitched by the live stream

Was aghast at the concept of streaming her coffin. Thought who on earth wants to watch that .......well me as it turns out
It's fascinating people watching - the diversity, the clothes, the lingerers

PolkaDotMankini · 15/09/2022 15:50

DD and I were watching just now and there were cute little triplets in dinosaur pyjamas.

theDudesmummy · 15/09/2022 15:54

I cannot believe how mesmerising the livestream is! I could watch it all day...as I suspect some people are...

Antarcticant · 15/09/2022 17:03

Just tuned back in after work - I hope the 'plume' guards come back soon!

Sparklingbrook · 15/09/2022 17:22

It looks very crowded compared to last night.

wow 😂

MN would not approve!

the80sweregreat · 15/09/2022 17:25

Maybe they were told ' you can wear your special PJs all day as long as you are prepared to queue up for days to see this' !

Antarcticant · 15/09/2022 17:25

Sparklingbrook · 15/09/2022 17:22

The queue is now over 4 miles so they are probably trying to get more through. Were those ropes there last night where the guards march in and out - I don't remember seeing them yesterday?

SoupDragon · 15/09/2022 17:34

They seem to be doing exterior shots again. I hope no one else has fainted!

😂😂😂😂

Me too. I'm fascinated how the guards set up the swords and then sort of sink onto them. Is it wrong to find it quite sexy? 😊

BusyBeatle · 15/09/2022 17:51

Sparklingbrook · 14/09/2022 10:14

No. I am struggling to think of anythingI would stand in a 5 mile long queue for. 🤔
I assume people are requesting annual leave to do it, I’m not sure my employers would be keen!

My company is giving anyone that wants to go days off between the 14th and 16th off and not taking it away from their annual leave.
I'm sure a few others are doing the same. Not sure I could queue up 5 miles. Not with breastfeeding a 1 month old 😅

EmmaH2022 · 15/09/2022 17:59

BusyBeatle isn't that just going to result in lots of people taking annual leave on the same days?

sunglassesonthetable · 15/09/2022 18:19

To answer my own question, they guarded the Queen when she was in Scotland apparently.
