So the question is, would you join it? I’m just not very patient and don’t think I could do it!

It's very meditative to watch isn't it. I like the mover-onners, you get to know exactly when they're going to approach people to move on.
How often to they change the guards? One of them looked like he was shaking, so I was worried about him too!! :)

One poor guy did collapse very early this morning, right at changeover time when there were two sets on the platform.

StellaAndCrow · 15/09/2022 11:25

Have the police standers had a chance to sit down yet?

FourChimneys · 15/09/2022 11:28

I have no intention of going but could easily clear my diary if I wanted to. Plenty of people will be the same.

With schools I guess if the children have a wristband as proof of being there theschools won't issue fines.

*I love the guard changes! The sound of them marching, the instructional clink of the staff on the floor, the slow way they turn those staffs the right way up... there is something very calming about it all.

the gentle shuffling sounds and respectful silence of the crowd is lovely too.*

Love the sound of it all.

Even the Catholics don't queue that long to see the Pope or the relics of a saint!

Certainly seems that way. I couldn't clear my diary at such short notice nor could any of my colleagues, we work shifts and not 9-5 Mon-Fri, but I have no desire to go either.

Do they not? i thought there was always a queue at the Pope's house?

SoupDragon · 15/09/2022 11:36

I love the beautiful simplicity of the building too. The roof and the plain walls and the vast expanse of floor... It's lovely.

Part of me would like to go there in person (and I easily could) but not so much that I want to go and queue for 7 hours to experience it!

Sparklingbrook · 15/09/2022 11:37

What was the shouting about just? I only have the sound on at the moment.

sunglassesonthetable · 15/09/2022 11:39

I love the building. It's so sparse. I'd never heard about it before.

TeenDivided · 15/09/2022 11:42

3.8 miles now. I wonder when 'peak length' will be today and how long it will be.

I wonder what Friday night and Saturday and Sunday will be like? Surely everyone that couldn't go to work (presuming they work Mon-Fri) will head down there asap.

sunglassesonthetable · 15/09/2022 11:46

Those wristbands are going to the historical momento. .

Obviously all children are different and obviously…all parents know their children and their threshold for things. But it really doesn’t feel right to have had young children in the queue over night - perhaps not babes in arms like in a sling but toddlers and pre schoolers surely can’t understand or appreciate what that level of discomfort is for.

TokyoSushi · 15/09/2022 11:49

I've just booked my train, I'll arrive in London just after midnight tomorrow and hopefully leave around lunchtime on Saturday, queue permitting!

I think a 12 hour turnaround might be a teeny bit ambitious but good luck!

EmmaH2022 · 15/09/2022 11:52

Enjoy the beautiful architecture at night. I’m sure you’ll have lovely chats in the queue, or the Elizabeth Line as I now call it. Wear layers!

StellaAndCrow · 15/09/2022 11:57

Little toddler just waved goodbye to the queen :)

StellaAndCrow · 15/09/2022 12:02

The man showing these VIPs in is very fancy with his ruffles

TokyoSushi · 15/09/2022 12:08

Fortunately I have a flexible return @Sparklingbrook !

Very wise. 😁

SomethingOnce · 15/09/2022 12:32

I wasn’t going to, but a bit of good, old-fashioned British queueing might be quite the tonic.

sunglassesonthetable · 15/09/2022 13:08

honestly think some people see it as 'a day out' - probably some of the same people who hang around A&E with a small cut etc

@Comedycook

Don't think so. These folk are nails.
