So the question is, would you join it? I’m just not very patient and don’t think I could do it!

Yeah - it can definitely be speeded up without asking people to zip through.

Yes, they need to get this going way quicker if they really mean they want to get as many people through as they can.

Well there's a fair bit of stopping and bowing going on.

Doesn't bode well for people next week getting in but I guess you can hardly tell people to get a move on.

I was in the area earlier and got caught up in the crowds making their way (very slowly grr) to the procession. It was extra-rammed as both Green Park and St James' Park had been closed for security reasons (people were literally being ejected out of a gap in the barriers at Green Park was I walked past). They were a LOT of older women in the crowds that I walked through. A disproportionate amount. I suspect many are retired or work part time. The whole area was being funneled behind security barriers. I finally found a gap in them and managed to dash across the road back to normality.

Saying that, I would have been tempted to queue. I was tempted to join the procession crowds (although the snail like pace was already driving me loopy) but I have surgery next week and need to avoid crowds because of the Covid risk (so was starting to panic at being stuck in them!)

True. At the moment people are waiting for the person in front to bow, so they can bow, holding up the person behind. I think getting some bowing in unison going might help.

The queue seems to be staying steady at between 2.4 and 2.6 miles long, according to the queue tracker. I'm not sure how that translates into time.

Antarcticant · 14/09/2022 20:18

My guess is that it will peak on Saturday/Sunday when people who work during the week or are coming from a long distance arrive; also 'last minute' factor.

Looks like it's got shorter as when I looked at the start of this thread, the nearest landmark was London Bridge but just now it shows as Southwark Bridge. I guess the evening effect perhaps. Still a long way though! I guess if you're with friends/family, have a drinks and a cast iron bladder then a gentle stroll along the South Bank while you chat isn't a bad way to queue.

There will be the pub tipping out crowd in a couple hours.

I wonder if they will bar people who are obviously intoxicated?

And people who have had a good dinner to fortify themselves.

I think they will have to. Will they have bouncers?

stillherenow · 14/09/2022 20:26

OMG the queue is on BBC 1!

It's not going to bump Shetland is it ?

Bellysmackers · 14/09/2022 20:27

SheldontheWonderSchlong · 14/09/2022 11:02

It's absolutely bonkers! I can't think who in their right mind would be prepared to do this - is it just for bragging rights or something?

I thought exactly the sane!

MomwasCasual · 14/09/2022 20:27

The folks in the first hour looked an interesting bunch 😃

This to me sums up the batshittery of this week.
Those people are nuts

Love this 🤣🤣

stillherenow · 14/09/2022 20:29

There's a woman on now in floods of tears !

SHE WAS 96

Antarcticant · 14/09/2022 20:30

It's interesting to see such a random assortment of people - there's no obvious 'type' of person.

GorgeousLadyofWrestling · 14/09/2022 20:31

The people who queued up with babies - did they really queue overnight??

Do you think the Queen is really in the coffin?

TokyoSushi · 14/09/2022 20:31

It's all well and good telling me the length of the queue, but I want to know his bloody long it takes, 2.4 miles does not help me book a train! 🙄

the80sweregreat · 14/09/2022 20:31

It's different reasons for everyone isn't it?

lollipoprainbow · 14/09/2022 20:32

Interesting to see the different ways people are honouring the Queen - bowing/nodding head, small curtseys, crossing themselves, standing for a moment, and some just filing past.

I saw a couple of kisses being blown too.

Antarcticant · 14/09/2022 20:33

By the way they're dressed I'm guessing it's warmer in London than it is where I am in Yorkshire.

I'm in the Midlands and think the same. Unless these people are just not showing how cold they are.

It's 20 degrees in London where I am (not far from the Tower of London). So Yorkshire summer almost. 😉
