Hi I’m doing party bags for a dcs birthday and rather than having any issues with the sweets in the bags i want to make all of them halal sweets so there’s no issue with who gets what,

I’ve heard skittles are halal are their any other good party bag sweets that are appropriate for everyone ?

Smarties are vegetarian so they'll be halal.

To be clear
Haribo isn’t usually vegetarian OR Halal
You can get Halal Haribo but it isn’t vegetarian
You can get Haribo type sweets that are vegetarian (and therefore Halal too)

I would just refer to them as vegetarian sweets as we are not Muslim and Muslim people can eat vegetarian food but vegetarian people can’t eat halal food so vegetarian is suitable for all. Halal is not.

Damnautocorrect · 13/09/2022 11:23

if memory serves me right jelly tots are vegetarian friendly

@DuggeeHugPlease

To be fair, it only seems to be 2 morons on this thread who, quite frankly, just seem bigoted and thick.

The sad thing is, when I opened this thread I fully expected there to be at least one "I won't give my kids halal muck!!" poster. And I was right. How do people like that cope living in a country where pretty much everything eat has been influenced by another culture? Or just cope with living in a multi-cultural society in general?

Hoppinggreen · 13/09/2022 11:29

We just eat pizza and pasta in this house
None of your foreign muck 😀

BabyJellyShark · 13/09/2022 11:29

Coincidentally I happen to have 2 packets of halal sweets beside me. It specifically lists Halal gelatine as an ingredient. It's the Jellopy range which is sold in Poundstretchers.

Also Dexters sweets which are sold in Home Bargains and sometimes B&M are vegetarian.

BabyJellyShark · 13/09/2022 11:31

Halal! Not vegetarian sorry.

Iguanainanigloo · 13/09/2022 11:33

To the pp who said they "wouldn't want their kids eating that".... sweets that state on the packaging that they are "halal", are simply showing that they are gelatine free i.e suitable for vegetarians and vegans, and so are also suitable for those who follow religions that don't consume non halal products, so are a great option as suitable for many people with different dietary requirements... Crack on with feeding your kids sweets made with chewy bits of pig and cow fodder if you like, but I know what I'd prefer mine to eat 😂. You sound pretty racist tbh with your reasoning for being against their consumption.

No. Halal sweets often contain gelatine.

Once again this is not true, halal sweets contain beef gelatine they are not vegetarian, vegetarian is vegetarian halal is halal beef gelatine

I would not want anything Halal in my house let alone in my mouth. Not my thing and never will be. Lots of reasons but I'm not a drum banger

This made me laugh. Op good luck with your sweet hunt a quick Google would have been less hassle.

tulips27 · 13/09/2022 11:38

Just for clarity, not all vegetarian sweets are halal and not all halal sweets are vegetarian.

😂 are you having your water cut off?

Ditched the tea and coffee?

Don't be eating any vegetables or dairy either that halal stuff isn't your thing after all.

I am 100% sure that you eat halal food every single day.

Headabovetheparakeet · 13/09/2022 11:39

@tulips27

Why wouldn't a vegetarian sweet be halal?

Damnautocorrect · 13/09/2022 11:40

i wasn’t going to mention it as I knew it would derail ops thread. And jelly tots are her answer.

But I am a vegetarian in a family of carnivores. We don’t eat halal as I don’t agree with the longer killing process, there’s also no way of knowing if it was stunned or not stunned prior.

it’s not racism to not agree with the process

YetAnotherSpartacus · 13/09/2022 11:41

This thread has got really weird.

Oddly I want jelly tots now, too.

I don't care if they are halal or not.

I'm also curious. Assuming we are not giving children sweets made with alcohol what else might be haram?

Sounds restrictive. How the pork and booze diet?

Genuine question and apologies if I am being thick but how could vegetarian sweets NOT be Halal?

Why wouldn't a vegetarian sweet be halal?

Oooh, alcohol
Just answered my own question there

tulips27 · 13/09/2022 11:43

They are very highly likely to be but may contain food colourings that have alcohol in them.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 13/09/2022 11:43

What about food colouring made from the cochineal beetle?

YetAnotherSpartacus · 13/09/2022 11:44

A lot of essences used to be alcohol based.

Interesting, I didn't know that. I sometimes buy halal gifts for a relative and assumed vegetarian food that doesn't contain alcohol would be safe. Good to know that may not be the case.
