Hi I’m doing party bags for a dcs birthday and rather than having any issues with the sweets in the bags i want to make all of them halal sweets so there’s no issue with who gets what,

I’ve heard skittles are halal are their any other good party bag sweets that are appropriate for everyone ?

Google sweets that are marketed for vegetarians - some Starburst and Haribos are vegan.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 13/09/2022 10:16

Bear in mind that most halal (and vegan) sweets are not suitable for gluten intolerance.

Love Hearts, Drumstick lollies, Dib Dabs, fruit salad.... there's loads! (Can you tell I had to find suitable sweets recently?! 😁)

Needmorelego · 13/09/2022 10:18

The brand Bebeto (sold in B+M etc) I think is Halal.
There is a range of sweets usually sold in independent newsagents that are small bags and 3 for £1 and I think they are Halal too - but I can't think of the name.

Sainsburys sell Halal Haribo, but not all haribo is halal. www.sainsburys.co.uk/gol-ui/product/halal-haribo-goldbears-100g

Are you going to tell everybody they are halal then because a lot of people will not like it. I would t want my kids eating that

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 13/09/2022 10:19

Any sweets that are vegetarian will be halal.

You wouldn't want your children eating vegetarian sweets?

Why? Confused

Burgerqueenbee · 13/09/2022 10:21

In the world food section of Sainsburys they usually have boxes/bags of haribo that are halal.

Needmorelego · 13/09/2022 10:23

@noclothesinbed the bit in most sweets that makes them non halal is the pork or beef gelatine.
Halal/Vegetarian sweets use a different type of gelatine 🙄

Mrsjayy · 13/09/2022 10:23

Op yes Skittles are Halal as well as haribo starmix

TwoWeeksislong · 13/09/2022 10:24

Why would you object to Halal sweets? I understand some people object to practices used in abattoirs to butcher halal meat but halal sweets likely won’t contain animal products. The problem with haribo for people who eat halal or kosher is the pork gelatin. Halal sweets will use a different agent to thicken the sweets and provide a similar texture - probably something like agar or cornflour.

Needmorelego · 13/09/2022 10:24

@Notbeinfunnehbut Bonds or Buzz was the brands I was thinking of. I THINK they are Halal/vegetarian but not 100% sure.

PMSL, better not tell them that a glass of water is halal!

PalePurplePumpkin · 13/09/2022 10:28

I can't believe the OP's got everyone Googling for her 😂

tenbob · 13/09/2022 10:28

M&S do lots of vegetarian sweets in small bags
But maybe avoid actual Percy Pigs for obvious reasons

Needmorelego · 13/09/2022 10:32

@tenbob you do know Percy Pigs aren't made from actual pigs...... 🐖🤣

Your breakfast cereal is halal, your toast is halal, your coffee is halal. I could go on…

Please educate yourself and try not to pass on your bigoted views to your children.

Erm, until relatively recently, Percy Pigs contained pork gelatine…

But either way, if you are buying halal sweets in order to cater to Muslim guests, it’s probably quite counterproductive to then give them sweets shaped like the actual animal they consider unclean and to be avoided. Surely that is obvious?

Because I am not a muslim
I will not have my kids being told they have to follow someone else's culture

tentontobias · 13/09/2022 10:51

@noclothesinbed @justaladyLOL are you going to actively seek out sweets (and any other food and drink) that have pork gelatine in them so you can ensure everything your kids eat are not halal?
Would you also get angry about your kids accidentally eating kosher food, or veggie food at a party that has Hindu kids there?

What a strange argument.

I'm not a vegetarian, but I eat vegetarian food. It's the same concept.

Regardless of the halal sweets, it's incredibly beneficial for all children to learn/experience and respect all cultures.

Headabovetheparakeet · 13/09/2022 10:55

@justaladyLOL

You're ignorant.
