Hi I’m doing party bags for a dcs birthday and rather than having any issues with the sweets in the bags i want to make all of them halal sweets so there’s no issue with who gets what,

I’ve heard skittles are halal are their any other good party bag sweets that are appropriate for everyone ?

Why? Confused"
Because I am not a muslim
I will not have my kids being told they have to follow someone else's culture

Are you for real @justaladyLOL.

That's a pretty offensive thing to say.
I'm currently drinking a cup of coffee that just happens to be halal, kosher, vegetarian and goodness knows what else.

Do you avoid eating at Indian restauarants (which usually tend to be Bangladeshi or Pakistani)?

What a narrow minded view of the world you have Hmm

Also, not all halal sweets are vegetarian. DD is vegetarian and won't eat Haribo because they contain gelatine.

Ding ding ding. Bigotry at its finest.

You must be struggling to find many sweets with meat in them.

Mrsjayy · 13/09/2022 11:00

No gelatin sweets are vegetarian some haribo are though.

Then they probably won't be halal either.

For sweets, halal and vegetarian are the same, as far as I'm aware.

DuggeeHugPlease · 13/09/2022 11:02

Oh dear, I think some people need to understand what halal actually means rather than hearing the word and picturing a particular slaughter practice (which let's face it is not necessarily better or worse than most mass meat production techniques)

But that's irrelevant here as the sweets don't contain meat.

Halal means allowed, haram means forbidden.
So all sorts of things are halal.

On second thoughts you must be finding it very difficult to find any food to give your children that hasn't been influenced by any culture that hasn't originated on these beautiful isles.

PS. Please tell your kids that Haribo are off limits. The company was founded in Germany.

They're not. Vegetarian sweets will generally be Halal but plenty of Halal sweets contain gelatine.(I've seen a lot that contains beef or fish gelatine)

Halal Haribo aren’t vegetarian

Headabovetheparakeet · 13/09/2022 11:05

@BabyJellyShark

But if the gelatine isn't halal then the sweet won't be either? My understanding is that it's not just about not containing pork, non halal beef gelatine would also be an issue. I could be wrong though.

User354354 · 13/09/2022 11:06

@DuggeeHugPlease

To be fair, it only seems to be 2 morons on this thread who, quite frankly, just seem bigoted and thick.

Hoppinggreen · 13/09/2022 11:06

We often buy Halal Haribo when DS friends who are Muslim visit.
I ate a pack once and didn’t start praying to Allah so I think the bigots will be ok

SpinningFloppa · 13/09/2022 11:07

Just get vegetarian sweets surely? Halal isn’t vegetarian as they contain beef gelatine instead so surely it’s best to just get vegetarian then everyone can eat them, my kids are vegetarian so won’t eat halal sweets

Headabovetheparakeet · 13/09/2022 11:08

I didn't realise they made sweets with halal gelatine, I always assumed they just used non-meat alternatives. I stand corrected!

Your kids will be following plenty of other cultures already.

You should be most concerned that they're growing up with an ignorant bigot.

noenergy · 13/09/2022 11:10

I can't get over some of the comments on here!! Even cornflakes have a halal symbol on it, do people stop giving them to their kids?

If Would go with vegetarian sweets, to make it easier, Homebargains have boxes of mixed sweets and lollies, I think swizzles brand.

Needmorelego · 13/09/2022 11:11

@tenbob Muslims and Jewish folks don't eat pork but they don't have an issue with piggies just being there and existing.
They aren't going to avoid Percy Pig products just because they are piggy shape.
They....shock horror....watch Peppa Pig too !!

I think this is true for most mass produced sweets in UK. I know someone who handmade artisan sweets and used to use halal beef gelatine. I imagine it’s commonly used in predominantly Muslim/ Jewish countries.

To be clear
Haribo isn’t usually vegetarian OR Halal
You can get Halal Haribo but it isn’t vegetarian
You can get Haribo type sweets that are vegetarian (and therefore Halal too)

fairgame84 · 13/09/2022 11:14

Fruit pastilles are halal and most candy kittens are halal.
Basically look for anything that says it's suitable for vegetarians.
Sainsbury's sell halal haribo in their world food aisle.
I accidentally gave Muslim DH non halal haribo a few months back 😬

Some do, some don’t.

I have family and acquaintances who would struggle with eating or wearing things decorated with pictures of pigs
