I use 13Kwh of electricity per day. How much do you use?

After speaking to my fuel provider and getting some info on my account I learnt that:

  • I pay 25p per day for the electricity standing charge
  • I pay 37p per Kwh of electricity
  • I pay 27p per day for the gas standing charge
  • I pay 7.47p per Kwh of gas

These are fixed until 2024.

I also learnt that I use 13kwh of electricity per day. That astonished me! I do two wm loads per week, three in the dishwasher, and use the tumble drier once, max twice a month, for towels (I have lots so can go for weeks without the need to wash them). So what is using up 13kwh per day??? My smart meter doesn't seem to help much.

Do you know how much electricity you use every day? I'd be very interested to compare.

Just checked my app and last week we averaged 5KWH per day but we have solar panels. In July/August, it was around 11KWH a week 😮

Spa?

We use anything from 8 - 14 kW of electric per day. This is November so far. We are a family of 3 - bungalow, only just in the last week started to use heated airer for clothes drying. No tumble. Dishwasher everyday. 2 x fridge freezers. Electric shower. Probably do between 3-5 loads of washing per week - depends on how grubby the child has been. I've started this last week to really think about rewearing clothes more before washing as drying will start to get more difficult.

I average 5.5 per day. Live alone, no tumble dryer at the minute which is making a big difference. And I’m in the office 12 hours a day!

what did you do different

I don’t have a smart meter so can’t be as precise as uou

Athenen0ctua · 20/11/2022 09:26

I don't have a smart meter but prefer to look at it weekly or monthly anyway. Weekend is going to spike with washing, vacuuming, if I decide to roast pumpkin for a soup and so on, so I find it more helpful to look at an average.

Vigneau · 20/11/2022 10:26

Well according to our gas suppliers estimate it’s 1,350 kWh per day. Which I suspect is an error.

DreamingOfSoftWhiteSand · 21/11/2022 15:15

Around 9 here. Two people working from home, one washing machine load per week and one dishwasher load per week. Tumble dryer strictly 20 minutes only, per week. Heating still off.

SereneSemolina · 21/11/2022 17:57

One washing load a week?! This sounds like witchcraft.
