So, now the funeral will be a public holiday, what will you be doing?

We are in the very fortunate position that a public holiday will not impact us too greatly. Dh has a major project with a deadline on the same day but he is on track. I have a deadline that has also been pushed back but which I was in front for. The DCs are off school (I assume).

I was worried about a medical appointment but my consultant e-mailed this morning (! On a Sunday!) to say that due to a cancellation I can come in the proceeding Thursday for which I am hugely grateful.

I was thinking I might make a nice picnic and go to the Downs near us. We can look over the sea and I will make a proper homemade picnic and the radio to listen to the funeral and take a flask of Pimms and a bottle of champagne and we will toast HM.

Even if I did want to watch the funeral, I wouldn't get to sit and watch it as the DC will be around. Hardly peaceful!

I now get to have first sleepover date with a new man thanks to no work on the Monday then will watch the funeral whilst catching up on MSc study and essay writing.

Oooooh how exciting. Enjoy the new man x

Skelligsfeathers · 11/09/2022 17:10

I will have been moving ds1 into university in London so might go and stand on the mall and observe some of the history.

TheLoupGarou · 11/09/2022 17:10

Working - NHS.

At least I'll get bank hol pay. DS is due to be going on a school residential trip that day. We haven't had an update yet, but he will be so disappointed if they lose a day of the trip (not to mention it all being paid for)

RomeoMcFlourish · 11/09/2022 17:10

Well I had the day booked off anyway to take delivery of lots of new furniture from IKEA. Now unsure whether normal deliveries will be taking place…anyone here in the know?

What is it? I heard the queen mum was partial to itm

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dubonnet

My great aunt (very partial to a tipple or two) used to drink it at Christmas.

Saucery · 11/09/2022 17:15

Got an appointment I’m not sure will still be going ahead. It’s not an important health thing so happy to move it. Probably get up early and go for a long walk somewhere with a picnic.
Can’t abide all the waffle over the top of the coverage so I will watch the main parts at my own pace later.

BrutusMcDogface · 11/09/2022 17:17

I will be home with my kids I assume (teacher). I really want to watch the funeral and I want them to see some of it but besides that, I don’t know. An afternoon tea is actually a lovely idea 🧁

That is a lovely idea and I might do one at home as a way of celebrating the Queen that my teenager might actually enjoy!

Working...care home. I would have liked to watch the funeral but the old people still want lunch. According to the manager it's not a ' usual' bank holiday so we won't get the extra pay or an extra days holiday. Joys of minimum wage job

what asseholes! Didn't realise there was different tiers of BH!

heidihigh · 11/09/2022 17:24

I work in retail and as yet no decision has been made on whether we will/won't be open. Think there may be some backlash from some colleagues if we are open though

LoveCatsButAllergic · 11/09/2022 17:25

Won’t be able to work as bank holiday, self employed so won’t get paid. Nothing will be open

Umbrellabee · 11/09/2022 17:25

We’ll be watching at home as best we can with DC around. We often get together with wider family for royal events like the weddings but may be a bit morose for a funeral. I love the tea and cake/afternoon tea idea too, will keep the kids quiet for a bit!

ithoughtisawapuddycat · 11/09/2022 17:25

I will definitely be watching the funeral. DH will probably watch a bit but do some DIY during the build up. Then we'll go for a walk in the afternoon.

Wombat100 · 11/09/2022 17:27

We’ll be watching the funeral on the tv at home, and will toast Queen Lizzie with a glass of fizz.

StaplesCorner · 11/09/2022 17:27

Similar position to @teenagetantrums except I am in the head office - medical staff/carers work so we do too - it’s not great but if they don’t get a free day off I don’t see why office staff should either. We don’t get any paid Bank holidays unless we take them from our annual leave allowance.

vroom321 · 11/09/2022 17:28

I have a hospital appointment that day and one the following week to discuss the results. I wonder when they will let me know it's cancelled.

Someoldtwat · 11/09/2022 17:30

NHS but have the day off.

Tea and cake for us

YetAnotherNameChange52 · 11/09/2022 17:32

We haven't been told yet, but I suspect most of us will still be working as I work for a hospital and the sick people don't go home when it's a bank holiday (yes, inconvenient of them, I know!)

MrsMitford3 · 11/09/2022 17:33

I live 5 mins walk from Windsor Castle.

It is insanely busy now-they are expecting 1/2 million people for the funeral.
Where will they all park????

I will probably walk over to the Long walk at some point just to see.

For Meghan and Harry's wedding they had metal detectors on the end of my road-it is fascinating to see the build up.

AUDHD · 11/09/2022 17:34

I’ll be in NYC

Sceptre86 · 11/09/2022 17:35

It's September weekend where I am so kids are off school anyway. Dh will be off due to the bank holiday. I will watch the funeral and get myself ready for work the following day.

Sevenwondersofthewoo · 11/09/2022 17:35

Working self employed so can’t take it as I won’t get paid. work with animals.

Cherrysherbet · 11/09/2022 17:37

I’ll be working (retail-big 4) We don’t get any extra pay for bank holidays. Oh and my dd’s school is shut so that leaves me with a childcare problem.. great!

I think supermarkets should shut. They made enough money thanks to her majesty over the jubilee weekend. The least they could do is close the day of her funeral.

MrsRhodes · 11/09/2022 17:37

Working in a supermarket (even if the shop shuts early as normal for a bank holiday I will still have to work my hours - will be stacking shelves instead).
