I’m just wondering how they do a 6 hour journey. Do they have stops for loo breaks? Do they change drivers.?

Please come for a visit😊 You won't be disappointed!

Haudyourwheesht · 11/09/2022 15:41

It's a shame House of Bruar isn't further south. That would be perfect. If anything, maybe a little too posh? Wink

They presumably must stop.

For the Queen's cortege, I'd expect them to stop somewhere classy, like Tebay. They could pick up some organic snacks while they're at it.

Tebay would be a bit off-track Wink

If you read the thread, or any of the coverage, you'd know they did stop though. But not in Tebay.

hoteltango · 11/09/2022 15:43

Seeing all the cars stopped in the outside lane of the opposite carriageway as the cortege is going past - is that planned, or just what people are deciding to do?

That would have been the stop on the Glenshee route.

It's all just up North though isn't it? 😂

🙄

I feel so, so sorry for Anne. I remember how awful and unreal it was to be travelling in a funeral car behind the hearse carrying my father's (and two years later, my mother's) coffin. Those journeys were only 15 minutes. I can't imagine how painful it would be to have to do that for six hours, and with so many people watching.

She has been her mums right hand man for decades, with very little recognition.

Will she have other titles now I wonder? She may perhaps take on some of the charities and interests that Charles can no longer continue with

Mrsjayy · 11/09/2022 15:46

I love the House of Braur for a mooch all the "country ladies" In tweed eating scones it is fab.

Octomore · 11/09/2022 15:47

The Tebay firm also owns Cairn Lodge in Scotland, although it's the wrong side of Scotland...

I was thinking of that type of services (the classy type) rather than being specific. 😂

ElizabethBest · 11/09/2022 15:48

@AdelaideRo @LIZS an undertakers isn’t the kind of thing that you really can advertise for nationally though. If aunt Betty in Cornwall kicks the bucket, nobody is going to think “ooh, we should use that undertaker all the way up in the Cairngorms because their logo was on the news” - you’d need to go with a local firm anyway.

@elizaregina those horses ❤️😢 that made me cry a little.

I missed the horses. Where were they?

Octomore · 11/09/2022 15:48

I'll take a note to explain in future that I'm not being specific though, rather than assuming that the word 'like' would do the job.

SpinCityBlues · 11/09/2022 15:50

Queensferry Crossing.

Pedallleur · 11/09/2022 15:50

Didn't know Charlie had a home in Scotland as well as Castle of May which he inherited and prob Balmoral now.

LIZS · 11/09/2022 15:51

He has Birkhall and a cottage on the Balmoral estate iirc.

Garlicpotatoes · 11/09/2022 15:52

Charles also owns Dumfries House

SpinCityBlues · 11/09/2022 15:53

I'm finding myself quite moved by how many people are turning out and stopping for the cortege in Scotland.

BBC as ever getting it bonkersly wrong. It's permament news heading is 'hundreds of people line route as Queen's coffin is transported', like she's gone through a couple of Scottish villages. How about tens of thousands? More?

megletthesecond · 11/09/2022 15:54

You could see the whole convoy in the first shots as it came through Ballater, it's huge. There was a white van (for motorcycles?) and an ambulance at the back.

LoveMyPiano · 11/09/2022 15:57

Anyone got a rough time for the horses?
The BBC did just show a clip of the tractors; that was lovely.

Great to see the passage over the Bridge, and everything on the other side slow down.

We live in central Scotland and thank you we are very proud and lucky to have such beautiful countryside.
Aberdeenshire is stunning and we'll with a visit.

It is absolutely beautiful. We've had wonderful holidays there. Also, as a mixed race family - a very warm and friendly welcome. (not always the case in certain places)

Nanalisa60 · 11/09/2022 15:59

Paid our respect this morning, went to friends for breakfast, then moved the garden furniture down the drive and waited for the Queen. Sun was shining and a piper was playing along the road cubs and scouts were across the road , it was very emotional Queen was in the first car with princess Ann and her husband were I the second car.

Funny thing was it was not sad everyone just wanted to show how much loved and respected we had for the Queen and to say our goodbyes

Royal Deeside and Aberdeen were looking there best today.

Apologies for the Daily Mail link but was the only one I could find with a clip of the horses in the article.

Did anyone else think they heard boo-ing when the proclamation was read out in Edinburgh; I think it was just after the National Anthem at noon.

If it did happen I'm appalled - there is a time and a place for displaying your views, but this isn't one of them.

I have no strong feelings either way for the monarchy, they are part of UK culture, but at the same time I would have no strong feelings if they were abolished.

It would be appalling at any of the events for the queens funeral, but the proclamation of a new monarch is a separate ceremony and exactly the right time for people to peacefully protest any anti monarchy feelings. It would be more appalling if we lose the right to protest.
