I’m just wondering how they do a 6 hour journey. Do they have stops for loo breaks? Do they change drivers.?

Such a beautiful day for her last great journey
Along with the rainbows at Balmoral and Windsor Castle just after she passed. Very fitting

NS sang God Save the King on the telly this morning, her career is over.

Wtf, I don’t understand why people think like this? It’s always been SNP policy to retain the monarchy. The independence issue is about political autonomy and separation from Westminster, it’s not about the royal family. The King of Scots took throne of England and united the crowns a hundred years before the parliaments were united - it’s a separate issue. Nobody will be surprised to see Sturgeon sing God Save the King.

It's very cute seeing them hobble around on their uneven legs wearing their wee tartan jammies

Awwww.....do you have a pic? 😆

Sadly not, they're quite camera shy wee beasties, but I did find an artist's impression.

The cap is only for special occasions, though, of course.

@Vapeyvapevape

Very twisty at some points, although there was actually a route that might not have taken as long where they were even twistier!

Do people really think this? It's not the Royals the SNP and everyone here in Scotland that votes for them have an issue with, its Westminster. Nicola Sturgeons career over don't make me laugh!

I thought more people would be throwing flowers like with Diana. Yes very ordinary hearse I don't know what I expected really, it makes it all the more real seeing her coffin.

Thank goodness there isn't any of this. Much more dignified.

Haudyourwheesht · 11/09/2022 15:18

This NS nonsense does my head in. I'm not her biggest fan but NS has been nothing but respectful to the Royal family and has a strong sense of respect and propriety.

feellikeanalien · 11/09/2022 15:18

We used to travel fairly regularly from Caithness to Glasgow and it used to take a whole day. Mind you I think the roads have improved a bit since then. It was a very long time ago!

She’s in the state Bentley behind. Daily Mail has pics.

Ah, thanks.

GentlemanJay · 11/09/2022 15:19

About 16 cars in total. They are numbered. They secondary convoy included a spate hearse and ambulance. What looks like vehicles carrying extra personnel. Sounds like a comfort stop at Brechin castle. This would have been planned for a while.

Thatboymum · 11/09/2022 15:22

I’ve never seen anything like it in Edinburgh today the motorways, fields , overheads full to the brim of people waiting for her to pass through to st Giles it’s crazy

Vapeyvapevape · 11/09/2022 14:46

If they're travelling 175 miles why is it taking 6 hours ? I know they're slowing down at some points but that seems an awfully long time.

The speed, on the dual carriageway/motorway is around 30/40 mph per the news. And much slower in built up areas.

Add in the break at Brechin castle.

Hotandbothereds · 11/09/2022 15:23

On the news they were saying local councils have been asking people not to throw flowers, for the very practical reasons of them needing to be cleared up, or causing an issue for drivers later on.

Vapeyvapevape · 11/09/2022 15:24

Ah ok , thanks @tigger1001

Garlicpotatoes · 11/09/2022 15:25

The comfort break at Brechin castle was 45 mins long

brechin castle is up for sale on right move if anyone has a spare 3 million 😁

I would imagine the distance and time of journey are somewhat impacted by speed.

I don't think the laws of physics have changed with the passing of The Queen.

They're also the same "North of the Border" than they are in SW1.

Mind blowing. 😉

bellac11 · 11/09/2022 15:28

Im watching this on catch up and its reall annoying that throughout they are showing 'live' broadcast of Buckingham Palace, the focus should remain on Scotland today.

Its very London centric and I say that as a Londoner

jennakong · 11/09/2022 15:32

Why is everyone on this thread so concerned with Princess Anne needing the toilet, and not the drivers and escorts? Do they really think they're going to pull in and urinate behind the nearest hedge? Makes me wonder what kind of blokes they're familiar with.

We were trying to work out the speed by counting how many white lines they were passing.

We estimated that on the free-flowing dual carriageway, they're going no more than 40-45 mph.

I think that's also for the twin reasons of

  • giving those who have gathered to watch a slightly longer glimpse
  • safety - cars on the other carriageway (some but not all have been cleared) have a safer rubbernecking opportunity if not at speed

I sometimes wonder where peoples brains are

Do they think that a funeral cortege is going to run along the motorway and A roads at maximum speed, cutting people up, dodging and diving along like the normal arsehole drivers?

Gymnopedie · 11/09/2022 15:35

I feel so, so sorry for Anne. I remember how awful and unreal it was to be travelling in a funeral car behind the hearse carrying my father's (and two years later, my mother's) coffin. Those journeys were only 15 minutes. I can't imagine how painful it would be to have to do that for six hours, and with so many people watching.

AnnBelle1962 · 11/09/2022 15:35

We live in central Scotland and thank you we are very proud and lucky to have such beautiful countryside.
Aberdeenshire is stunning and we'll with a visit.

Vapeyvapevape · 11/09/2022 15:36

@aweegc yes it's a bit of a daft question thinking about it 🤦‍♀️.

Octomore · 11/09/2022 15:39

They presumably must stop.

For the Queen's cortege, I'd expect them to stop somewhere classy, like Tebay. They could pick up some organic snacks while they're at it.
