Missing 9-y-o child, Dunbar, Scotland

NSPCCEnquiry · 10/09/2022 15:30

Posting this because it's not getting much media attention but it's a very worrying situation. Austin is only 9 and has now been missing for 20 hours and street to street searches haven't found him yet. Dunbar is a smallish town in East Lothian but it's on the A1 and East Coast Mainline and bus routes to Edinburgh and Berwick so I'm sharing in case he has travelled elsewhere. www.scotland.police.uk/what-s-happening/news/2022/september/missing-boy-dunbar/

The place is beautiful, but what an area to search. This should surely be on the main news, 9 is so young.

waterlego · 10/09/2022 16:51

How worrying. I hope Austin is found safe and soon. Thank you for sharing OP. I’m a long way from Scotland but have several friends living up there so have shared on my FB.

BeetyAxe · 10/09/2022 16:54

My goodness hope he is found soon. I am nowhere near unfortunately but bumping this up a bit.

purpleboy · 10/09/2022 17:03

I can't believe this isn't on the news. The poor boy is 9 and been missing for nearly a day, hope he is found safe and well soon.

Mrssophie · 10/09/2022 17:16

It makes me so mad the media aren't covering anything else especially things like this where awareness and information is important and could help the little boy be found. Of course it's sad that the Queen died but for gods sake she was an old lady and a small child is missing!

Livebythecoast · 10/09/2022 17:19

I haven't heard this story either. Hoping and praying he is found safe and well. 🙏

Hellodarknessmyoldpal · 10/09/2022 17:19

How awful. Fingers crossed he is found soon. Disgraceful that this hasn't received the coverage that is needed!

Wisteriaroundthedoor · 10/09/2022 17:22

These things are always terrifying I hope he is found safe and well.

Thesearmsofmine · 10/09/2022 17:26

Shocking that this isn’t being covered widely, I hadn’t heard of this at all. I hope he is found safe soon.

AAT65 · 10/09/2022 17:40

Still not on BBC Scotland news site although it is buried at bottom of Daily Mail stream. My DP has been out searching most of the day. Police have based themselves in the Grammar School and lots of teachers and staff from the Primary have been searching night and day. It is a tight knit community. Coastguard helicopter overhead with search lights over night. I know the wee lad so have everything crossed.

Runningnewbie · 10/09/2022 17:44

Bump

YellowBeetle · 10/09/2022 17:45

I hope they find him soon. His family must be so worried.

Retsina24 · 10/09/2022 17:49

Oh my goodness. I'm sad and angry that this isn't being covered in the media. My son is 9 and I can't imagine how terrified his parents must be. I hope Austin is found very soon. Please update us on here.

ApolloandDaphne · 10/09/2022 17:51

If there is a large community out searching then it is possible the police don't believe a nationwide alert is required right now. They may know more than they are letting on.

Ducksurprise · 10/09/2022 17:55

But what if they are wrong Apollo he has been missing for ages, I'd rather a national alert for a child that isn't needed than an alert that is too late.

Noteverybodylives · 10/09/2022 17:55

I don’t live anywhere near Scotland (Cornwall) but I am disgusted to hear that it’s not in the Scottish media.

Surely in cases like this the more that people know he’s missing, the quicker he is found.

20 hours is way too long for a 9 year old child and they’re obviously worried if they’re asking people to check their sheds and things.

They obviously don’t suspect that he could have gone with a family member or run away which is often the case, as they would have said!

Celeryfavour · 10/09/2022 18:03

I've just looked on a map, the two streets he was going between are a minute apart, literally around the corner. Poor boy, what on earth could have happened?

Yesthatismychildsigh · 10/09/2022 18:11

Upwards of 20 stories of the death of a 96 year old, whilst a child is missing and it’s being ignored. That’s disgusting and such a sad sign of what this country is.

blacksheep2014 · 10/09/2022 18:20

It's almost weird that this isn't getting more coverage, I've been searching for updates all day.

Nothing is getting media attention atm hope he is found.

Ducksurprise · 10/09/2022 18:24

What time does it get dark there? Says coastguard is looking but it's a fair way to the sea from his street.
I just feel sick this isn't being shared, my thoughts are with his family ,the worry is unimaginable.

LoopyGremlin · 10/09/2022 18:25

Very worrying indeed. Praying he’s found safe and well soon. Lots of people I know sharing on Facebook as we are in Edinburgh East.

NSPCCEnquiry · 10/09/2022 19:00

It will be mostly dark by 8.

I hope he didn't go down to the sea last night; the waves were pretty huge.

OP posts:
AAT65 · 10/09/2022 19:07

It is not dark here yet. Will be almost dark at 8pm. It's now 24 hours since he was last seen and even if sleeping he will be hungry. He likes his food! If you can share on social media East Lothian Police have a shareable post. We will be searching again tomorrow but mentally preparing what we say to the children in school on Monday.

IchbineinBerlinerin · 10/09/2022 19:10

This is awful. I hope he's found safe soon
