Missing 9-y-o child, Dunbar, Scotland

Posting this because it's not getting much media attention but it's a very worrying situation. Austin is only 9 and has now been missing for 20 hours and street to street searches haven't found him yet. Dunbar is a smallish town in East Lothian but it's on the A1 and East Coast Mainline and bus routes to Edinburgh and Berwick so I'm sharing in case he has travelled elsewhere. www.scotland.police.uk/what-s-happening/news/2022/september/missing-boy-dunbar/

SO glad !

It says he has been traced rather than found. It suggests to me he had gone or been taken somewhere.

Yes very odd!

I’m glad he’s been traced and the police are on it.
I hope he’s ok.

Retsina24 · 10/09/2022 22:51

Thank goodness he's been traced by police. Unusual choice of words though. I really hope all is well with the poor lad.

Very, very often the reason these stories aren’t more extensively covered is because the police brief journalists on the most likely scenario, and the most likely scenario is usually that they’re with someone they know.

Many hundreds of people are reported ‘missing’ every day. They can’t all be covered in the media (my paper covers about 1 per cent) because no other news would get written. Granted, a nine year old is on the unusual side but it’s really not unheard of, especially when they’ve gone with someone they know.

Seen a post on Facebook that he was found in the woods with a broken ankle.
If true the poor lad must have been so scared

AAT65 · 10/09/2022 23:19

JaniceBattersby the police don't call out local people to search if the child is suspected to be with someone known. He is found and safe so let's not speculate further but hope that if necessary police and social services are on the case

CallMeLinda · 10/09/2022 23:30

Glad to hear he has bene found. Thank you for the update.

Traced isn't at all unusual. Police Scotland pretty much always say that as opposed to found. In fact when we close off a missing person incident 'Person Traced' is a closure option.

Maybe it's more a Scottish phrase?

Thanks for the update!
