Which way would you vote in a referendum on the monarchy?

Now that the Queen is gone, if there were ever to be a referendum, would you vote to keep or abolish?

I would vote to abolish.

If you think a republic is a great plan then just look at President Trump!
Electing your head of state is a very risky business.

And a monarchy isn't risky? President Trump was voted out after 4 years. They wouldn't have been able to do that if he was King Donald!

Elizabeth was a good monarch and Charles looks like he'll make a decent fist of it too but imagine if Andrew was the oldest?

Abolish, I just find the whole thing utterly bizarre.
I had no particular feelings toward the Queen, I think she believed she was doing her duty & she did it for a very long time so good for her.
But now, nah, it should have ended with her.
Ireland have a pretty good system, I love their current president.
Maybe they should just do a citizen ballot every 4 years & random, normal folk get a go at being the head of state, no one should be more privileged or entitled than others.

Abolish, I think. Still, a bit of me likes the pomp and circumstance of a monarchy, but the older I get, the harder I find it to square it with the inequalities in our society.

Interesting, I'm the opposite.I was fervently anti monarchy but the older I get the more I think it's nice to have someone represent us who is constant and not today's flavour. I think it's good for tourism and Presidents cost mire.

The thing people are missing when they say we’ve got to keep the monarchy because the alternative might be Johnson/Farage is that we would have a CHOICE. The monarch is imposed on us. You do realise that if Charles had died before having kids we’d now be celebrating King Andrew?

Grown up countries choose their head of state. If you get a bad one you make sure they’re followed by a good one.

Andrew lost his royal titles when the Queen was still alive, so no, we wouldn't have King Andrew.

Puts a slightly different spin on the reasons for "An heir and a spare" though wouldn't it?

You have missed the point .
If Andrew was eldest we would have him regardless .
No choice in the matter .

I knew someone would say I had missed the point, but I didn't. (And we wouldn't have had him regardless - the Monarchy we have knows the British public would not get on board with this and it would decimate revenue).

I like the monarchy we have, we don't and will never have a King Andrew and honestly, I've never thought I had that much choice in a prime minister either. It's been a case of voting for "least bad" option for a long time.

The monarchy as it sits if fine for me and I am happy with it. If there is ever a situation with a "King Andrew" on the throne then that will be the end of the monarchy anyway. And that would be a different story.

You simply cannot state ' we wouldn't have Andrew '
By what mechanism would Andrew be removed if he were eldest ?

There is also a lot more going on that is covered up

If Charles had refused to marry Diana to be with camilla it would have been as free - do you think he knew then ?
