Now that the Queen is gone, if there were ever to be a referendum, would you vote to keep or abolish?

I would vote to abolish.

I did 'love' The Queen, though!

Oh god Abolish. Can't understand why anyone would think that shower are "better" and deserve gilded lives

Chloefairydust · 24/11/2022 00:52

Abolish, I think now the queen has passed away, it’s the end of an era and I don’t think there’s really a place for royalty in modern culture. I just don’t see the point, and the amount of money that goes to fund the royals and keep them in their life styles is just ridiculous… Why, just why?? 🤔

Politicians cost us way more than the Monarchy and having an elected President would cost us way more than the Monarchy. And it'd just be another thing for people to argue about.

Novella4 · 24/11/2022 07:45

Nonsense

A president won't cost 350 million a year

What do you mean ' politicans cost more ' . Are you suggesting we do away with MPs?
An absolute monarch? Lol there are some here running their thighs at the thought

Figures ? Of course you won't be able to provide the figures for the royals as the details and extras are hidden

Genuine question, why? Does it not bother you that:

  • they were undemocratically placed where they are
  • their history is rooted in racism & colonialism, much of the wealth they have has been stolen and unethically acquired
  • Prince Andrew and the fact that the queen paid for his legal fees (therefore to an extent so did the British public)

Isn't it a bit barbaric the way we decided they should be allowed to hoard all this wealth they didn't earn or deserve in the first place and be placed above us, living a sheltered life, detached from reality? They all seem like whiny adulterers.

Democracy gave us Boris, Liz Truss, Trump and Boaty McBoatface. I'll stick with King Charles thank you very much.

That's the thing, if everyone was fully knowledgeable about politics and studied the candidates as much as possible and the party policies etc, then democracy can be useful, but otherwise it's a large risk, if people only vote ect based on newspapers etc.

Sloth66 · 26/11/2022 18:34

@Florenz
Its certainly true that democracy delivered these woeful individuals, but they were all also removed from their posts. If we’d had a king Andrew, there’s no mechanism at all for booting him out.

And prince andrew? You don't mind funding his lavish lifestyle with your taxes, which allowed him to have the connections, time and money to do horrendous things?

I do mind it. But there are a lot more politicians who have done things as bad or worse and we have to pay for them as well.
