I mean obviously it's pre recorded but how did they get them to speak of her in the past tense?

@CaramelTwirl how do you know she had a terminal illness?! She could have had a stroke or a heart attack, we don’t know, probably never will and it doesn’t bloody matter 🙄.

Being lied to does matter to me.

Who has lied? What have they lied about and when?

JaninaDuszejko · 09/09/2022 22:36

There are prerecorded obituary programmes for all significant public figures. All senior members of the Royal family (even more so after Diana dying suddenly I suspect), all previous PMs etc. In particular for the Royal Family it is far better to prerecorded it than expect them to film a programme like that in the first few hours after their relative's death. It's a purely pragmatic decision. Obviously it seems weird for us but so much of life as a royal is fucked up so they do what they can to make it easier.

ThunderstomsAreComing · 09/09/2022 22:39

Most of us wouldn't be able to do it - but most of us would not be asked to do it. It's part of the job of being a royal - they know that. They knew she was going to die in the next few years - if she'd made 100 they would have redone some of the interviews. They did exactly the same for Philip - actually it might be easier to do a few years before the inevitable, while they are still fit and healthy. My memory is the Anne interview might have been done at the same time - I seem to remember the outfit ? So maybe they did both a few years ago?

BMW6 · 09/09/2022 22:39

FFS no-one LIED to you. They didn't say the Queen is perfectly fine, nothing to see here.

They made it perfectly clear that her death was imminent and anyone with a brain knows that the announcement is made when the appropriate people have been informed, people are put in the places they need to be in accordance with London Bridge protocols and the legalities of succession are covered.

Then the public announcement is made at an agreed time. You weren't lied to. You knew it was imminent and nobody said otherwise.

They did though. All afternoon. It was a bloody farce.

PleaseGoDontGoAgain · 09/09/2022 22:41

Buckingham Palace were not repeating that she was resting and comfortable, they said it once while she likely was still alive.
You weren't lied to

Olamiamore · 09/09/2022 22:43

Actually, they said fairly often, this is the situation, conclude from it what you will. I.e yes its obvious but we can't officially tell you yet.

And even if you feel you were being lied to, surely you can understand why?

BMW6 · 09/09/2022 22:46

If she died at 1pm and the Public announcement is not made till 6.30pm so bloody what!

That's not lying. They didn't make out she was fine. Everyone knew she was going or had already gone.

Why on earth have you got such a bee in your bonnet over it? Did you lose a bet or something?
I am bemused at your angst over nothing at all.

SallyWD · 09/09/2022 22:47

meateatingveggie · 09/09/2022 21:34

Well I'm surprised they agreed

They did exactly the same for Prince Philip. A tribute programme prerecorded before his death.

Snowiscold · 09/09/2022 22:47

CaramelTwirl · 09/09/2022 22:40

They didn’t. It hasn’t actually been revealed what time she died. I’ve heard afternoon, that Charles and Anne were there. And reporters can only report what they know. They can’t invent it. They have to be told officially. Even if the Queen had died at midday, it wouldn’t make a difference.

It wasn't nothing at all though was it. The Queen dying is quite a big deal.

Snowiscold · 09/09/2022 22:52

So, from 12.30 to 18:30 is barely any time, even if the Queen had died at 12.30, which she probably didn’t. No one lied all afternoon.

watcherintherye · 09/09/2022 22:53

Why was it necessary to have the blanket coverage for hours before the announcement, putting everyone in the news teams in the position of pretending they didn’t know she had already died? That’s just undignified.

BMW6 · 09/09/2022 22:55

The Queen dying is of course a big deal.

The timing of the Public announcement and the pre recorded interviews are not.

You seem to be aggrieved that the Public weren't told immediately. Well tough. Protocols had to be put in place first and all the Queens family informed before a public announcement - or do you think they should have got the news of a beloved family members death from the BBC??

Exactly. Why have 6 hours of filler when everyone knew what the outcome would be.

Amybelle88 · 09/09/2022 22:56

tigger1001 · 09/09/2022 21:37

They always have programs like this lined up for anyone who is culturally significant so they can be aired almost as soon as they have died. They just update them periodically I believe

Prince Philip was the same.

Can't be a nice thing to have to take part in and discuss someone who is still living in the past tense.

Exactly what happens

historicalnews · 09/09/2022 22:56

News teams did not know that she had already died throughout the afternoon.
They were on high alert and knew that an announcement was likely - that's not the same thing.

BMW6 · 09/09/2022 22:57

Well I suppose they could have shown Eastenders omnibus editions, or all the winning dances from Strictly?

That better?

CaramelTwirl · 09/09/2022 22:57

No, I think that maybe the farce on the TV shouldn't have happened at all until they were ready to make the Queen is dead announcement.

The prime minister was told at about 16.30, so just two hours before the public. The pm would be among the first to know.

CaptainBarbosa · 09/09/2022 22:58

I couldn't have one done about me, I'd be too nosey and want to see it, to see what they said 😂

historicalnews · 09/09/2022 23:01

Senior members of the royal family and other significant public figures are completely aware of the obit plans and pre recorded material. In some cases they feed into those plans. It's all part of the public role and they understand that.

watcherintherye · 09/09/2022 23:01

I’m not the poster in question, but I feel aggrieved, not that the public weren’t told immediately, but that there was such a circus beforehand. Wait till it’s happened, inform the media when appropriate, then make the public announcement. What’s wrong with that? Why does the media have to be poised, ready all the time?

Rewis · 09/09/2022 23:02

meateatingveggie · 09/09/2022 21:36

Donning black tie to pretend your mother was dead and talking to a camera? Sorry, I find that odd.

It is part of the job description. I'm sure they have a few I the vault for the older Royals like Michael of Kent etc. And will be making one for Charles as soon as he shows signs of not being well so that it won't be outdated. Journalist will also have ready made videos and articles for older celebrities so they cab publish them quickly.
