BBC 1 tribute is rather odd

I mean obviously it's pre recorded but how did they get them to speak of her in the past tense?

Well at 96 it was absolutely fucking obvious that she wasn't going to live much longer!

Whether she had terminal illness or not is irrelevant, as it wouldn't be shortening her life in any significant way would it!

FFS try for some common sense

Neverendingdust · 09/09/2022 22:09

She was 96, it’s not exactly come as a shock that she has passed. Them speaking about her whilst she was alive may seem odd but it actually makes perfect sense. They’re grieving now, they weren’t when the tributes were filmed so they had the headspace and will to speak.

Oh come on. They knew she wouldn't last the year out. They knew she had died yesterday but kept up the Queen is comfortable and resting farce. They lied.

How long before then? What if she had lived another few years? Like her mother. They knew.

AnneShirleysNewDress · 09/09/2022 22:13

@CaramelTwirl You weren't lied to. It just wasn't any of your business.

Except It's been rammed down our throats about her being our Queen. So yes it was our business.

meateatingveggie · 09/09/2022 22:15

Some interesting pov. I do find it odd, unnecessary and strangely mawkish. But hey that's me

As for yesterday.. the BBC probably were briefed a while before the announcement. They ob needed some time from being informed to announcing it. But before that family needed to know, officials across the world. It would have been awful had any of those found out from Huw Edwards.

Who is “they”? And don’t you think it’s normal and appropriate to let your own family know and then close friends know before announcing it to the world? That’s what everybody does. In fact, the public got to know very quickly.

Antarcticant · 09/09/2022 22:16

I noticed Charles had the same hanky in his pocket as today.

WeAreTheHeroes · 09/09/2022 22:19

Whether they knew or guesses yesterday, the protocol was to wait for the announcement from Buckingham Palace.

As for the tribute being fake - most TV is!

Yet we were subjected to hours and hours of Queen footage with Huw in his black tie. Anyone with half a brain cell knew she had died.

If they had respect for the family, that wouldn't have happened.

NCFT0922 · 09/09/2022 22:20

@CaramelTwirl so what? Why do you think you had a right to know the minute she died? Do you not think her family deserved some time before the world found out?
Have you ever lost a loved one? I take it if you have that you’re immediately on the phone informing everyone they knew of their passing. Not taking any time for yourself or with the one who had passed. Get a grip.

I've lost far too many loved ones. I didn't pretend they were still alive though.

How has it been rammed down your throat @CaramelTwirl ?

meateatingveggie · 09/09/2022 21:36

Donning black tie to pretend your mother was dead and talking to a camera? Sorry, I find that odd.

Same here. Should be scrapped.

Do you not have a TV?

NCFT0922 · 09/09/2022 22:25

@CaramelTwirl do you not have Netflix?

If it's an open secret though that these types of things are pre-recorded doesn't it completely lose its meaning/value? It does for me.

Yes, that would be absolutely normal and appropriate. Why then would you have the media on standby for literally hours yesterday, with the rumourmongering and pretence on overdrive? That’s abnormal and inappropriate, I would say. I felt the media vigil at the gates was somewhat undignified.

urgen · 09/09/2022 22:27

Caramel. You seem to have a massive chip on your shoulder about this and tbh you seemed miffed that YOU didn’t know first.

Just why? And who are ‘they’?

BMW6 · 09/09/2022 22:28

Well I didn't think she'd make it yo the end of the year but not because of any mystery terminal illness!

She lost loads of weight in the aftermath of her husbands death, and suddenly looked very frail indeed. Perfectly normal when one spouse dies the other follows quite soon for no other reason than grief. If she was an ordinary woman without supreme medical attention she probably would have passed very soon after her husband.

There's nothing sinister or conspirital about the BBC filming these interviews as if she was already dead - like Obituaries, they are prepared in advance and updated as necessary.

IF she did have a cancer - so what! Her life expectancy wasn't going to be compromised by any terminal illness at 96 was it.

My own mum declined very rapidly in the final few months of her life, and she died of pneumonia. Looking at photos of her in the weeks before her death it was very obvious she was on her way. Same with the Queen.

Snowiscold · 09/09/2022 22:28

Who has pretended she was alive?
The announcement was made by Buckingham Palace at around 18.30 yesterday. No-one pretended she was alive. News of the Queen’s health started at around 12.30.

OnlyEverAutumn · 09/09/2022 22:29

@CaramelTwirl how do you know she had a terminal illness?! She could have had a stroke or a heart attack, we don’t know, probably never will and it doesn’t bloody matter 🙄.

But it’s not even an open secret. It’s all open and above board. How do you think they’d make these programmes otherwise? They did the same for Prince Philip too. It’s completely normal.
