How will you refer to Charles now?

Obviously in official/media contexts he will be called the King.

But at home, will you refer to him as the King like we did of course the Queen? Or will you still call him Charles? Is King Charles the easier middle ground?

I can't get my head around just saying the King.

Thanks @ClumpingBambooIsALie.
I was sick in my mouth 🤣

I'm so sorry for doing that to you. Now it's in your head forever, too.

That parasite Tampon Lover as usual. He's no King of mine.

Kind of is though...

Yes he is. You don’t get a choice 😊

An unnecessary and largely unwanted expense.

👏🏽

HikingBoots · 09/09/2022 10:51

"Charley-boy" or "The Big C" probably.

It'll be really interesting to see how long it takes! Disclaimer - I'm not a royalist so I don't think it will come easily to use the title.

I was reading a 'This day in history' article yesterday evening (probably no later than 8pm) and it was already updated by then.

felulageller · 09/09/2022 10:55

Charley

PinkButtercups · 09/09/2022 11:01

Charles.

But then again we don't talk about the royal family in our house.

Huz · 09/09/2022 11:12

Chas and Milly innit

murasaki · 09/09/2022 11:13

Definitely Brian

KangarooKenny · 09/09/2022 11:28

He will stay Prince Charles to me. I’m not a fan of his since he married Camilla.

fantasmasgoria1 · 09/09/2022 11:41

Just Charles. I am not a royalist and I never use their titles.

oreobiscitz · 09/09/2022 12:23

Charles

PerfectlyPreservedQuagaarWarrior · 09/09/2022 12:34

Another vote for Brian here!

Anothernamechangeplease · 09/09/2022 12:43

I will struggle to think of him as anything other than Prince Charles tbh. Will probably just call him Charles.

I don't want him to be king, really. I had great respect for the Queen, and I feel very sorry for the Royal Family's loss. However, rather than rushing towards the coronation of another monarch, I would like to see a civilised national debate about whether we actually want to keep the monarchy now. And a referendum maybe.

I would have so much respect for Charles If he had the courage and humility to actually initiate that debate, as it's difficult for others to do this when his family are all in mourning. He won't, of course, but I wish he would.

At the end of the day, if the majority of the population decide that they want to keep the monarchy, then that would be totally fair enough, but the idea of a hereditary system is such an anachronism in this day and age, I think we should at least consider whether it's still what we want. I don't think many people at all would have chosen to get rid of the Queen, but I wonder how many really want any of her descendants as our head of state. I expect that many of the Commonwealth nations will choose this moment to consider whether they still want a foreign monarch to have a role in their respective countries as well.

@WhatAmIDoingWrong123 Oh I don't disagree.

MarshaMelrose · 09/09/2022 12:52

It seems weird. I always called the Queen, the Queen. After so many years of calling him Prince Charles or Charles, I can't think of him as king Charles because that sounds too formal for him. But he seems like a sensitive guy to me so I guess he'll know how people are feeling and how embedded the queen was in all our subconsciousneses so he won't be too bothered if it takes us some time to get used to it. How sad it must feel for him though to be doing things that he's used to his mum doing. Maybe there is something in the idea of the monarch handing on the crown before dying, then the new monarch can enjoy the position while still having their parent alive and around to give advice.

cataline · 09/09/2022 12:55

He was referred to as 'The Spaniel King' in our house last night.

That is what he'll be known as from now on by me and DH!

SpinCityBlues · 09/09/2022 13:01

I thought his real name was "Big Ears" until I was about 7. Shockingly, it turns out that was just a nickname. 😱
