How will you refer to Charles now?

Obviously in official/media contexts he will be called the King.

But at home, will you refer to him as the King like we did of course the Queen? Or will you still call him Charles? Is King Charles the easier middle ground?

I can't get my head around just saying the King.

I'm curious can he refuse and offer it to William? What if William turns it down?

Tampon

King Tampon the First actually has something of a ring to it.

I think we're all supposed to have quietly forgotten about that, though…

Doesn't help he's bright red in the face half the time.

An unnecessary and largely unwanted expense.

The justifications for an elaborate coronation next year are going to be interesting. I doubt it will end up as a registry office job on the quiet, but pomp and circumstance of Liz's enthronement is unlikely to fit the public mood.

I doubt we're all going to say no to an extra bank holiday again though.

Giggorata · 09/09/2022 09:33

Brian ( Private Eye) or maybe King Brian.

He can’t “refuse” as such, he is king now. He could abdicate, in which case William is king, who could also abdicate. then George would be king with Harry as regent, but this is getting into fantasy land now because neither Charles nor William would do that to their sons.

notonl · 09/09/2022 09:34

@PutinIsAWarCriminal I've yet to see any convincing evidence.

And yes the Coronation will be quite something, don't think they'll be dressing from Peacocks and eating an M&S sandwich platter for tea.

RIP Queen a respectable and dutiful woman- but it should end with her.

Yes, I hear the silent Spaniel too!!

EndTheMonacyNow · 09/09/2022 09:37

That prat Charles?

TambourineOfRepentance · 09/09/2022 09:39

Does anyone know what would happen if, hypothetically, the royal family just en masse refused to continue doing it. I presume no one could actually make them act as head of state?

Phos · 09/09/2022 09:46

The King. Thats what he is.

And I'll call Camilla the Queen. Quicker than Queen Consort.

millerpie · 09/09/2022 09:46

The King.
King Charles makes my brain automatically to add Spaniel at the end.

Xiaoxiong · 09/09/2022 09:47

Brian!!

Aposterhasnoname · 09/09/2022 09:15

Well I’ve always called him Charlie boy, so
probably that. I called the queen queeniepoos (don’t ask). Kingiepoos doesn’t have quite the same ring to it!

im a massive royalist by the way.

Charlie boy here too

vroom321 · 09/09/2022 09:48

I really dislike Charles but the pressure on William would be immense.

Fluffygreenslippers · 09/09/2022 09:25

Charles or the king. I’m absolutely fascinated that we will have a king again.

And if things go "to order" it will be for many more years!

WoolyMammoth55 · 09/09/2022 09:49

I'm mildly intrigued that William and Catherine won't be Prince William and Princess Catherine - anyone know why?
Instead they've just got an extra Cornwall tagged on to the Duke and Duchess bit.
Seems a bit odd!

MarshaBradyo · 09/09/2022 09:52

King Charles I guess not sure know I think about it

I doubt it will be the King as easily as it was the Queen, for a while at least

I doubt a child could abdicate, or a regent abdicate on their behalf, though I don't know. So presumably the refusals would go down the line of succession until it hit a kid, and then stall. And anyway, sooner or later they'd find someone who'd be willing to tolerate a life of wealth and luxury with a guaranteed place in history.

No, we have to take it off them.

girlmom21 · 09/09/2022 09:53

I'll probably just call him Charles, or 'The King' if I'm talking to the children.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 09/09/2022 09:54

WoodlandMummy · 09/09/2022 09:20

🙌🏼

This. Or just Charles, if I needed to specify which particular unnecessary expense I was referring to.

Catherine is not Princess Catherine because she wasn't born into the Royal Family. As William was given a dukedom on marriage she is styled as a Duchess. Had William not been given a Dukedom, she may have been styled as Princess William (like Princess Michael of Kent is)

It's entirely possible that Charles will decide to make William the Prince of Wales, at which point she will be Catherine, Princess of Wales. But she would not be Princess Catherine. Diana wasn't Princess Diana either, its just what she was commonly known as, I suppose it's less of a mouthful.
